How do you regulate boost pressure? With normal wastegate?

If you need high boost pressures this is your setup. Otherwise just run a single theirs no need to go crazy with a complicated system. It ultimately makes sense on diesels because they can take much higher boost pressure than a gasoline engine. But if you don’t need it don’t over think it.

Usually compound turbos are diesels. Regulating boost isn't a big deal on diesels. As for melting pistons you regulate temp with the timing and amount of diesel you inject.

I thought sequential turbos fed the intake in parallel and the compound turbos fed the intake in series?

What's the recommended upgrades for a stocker kit? Headstuds? I'd like something set up for good reliability in towing.
@DieselPowerSource
@DieselPowerSource 2 жыл бұрын
Head Studs are never always a good idea. However, we always recommend Head Studs for: 1988-2002 engine over 48 psi boost, and fire rings for over 55 psi boost 2003-2007 engine sover 55 psi boost, and fire rings for over 65 psi boost 2007.5-2018 6.7 engines, over 48 psi boost, and fire rings for over 55 psi boost Our Compound Turbo systems are all capable of over more than 55 psi, but are adjustable depending on truck. For a 5.9L with a stocker kit you can run stock injectors up to about 90 hp injectors. what year is your truck?

why does the compound turbo have to be the first turbo bigger than the second turbo
@andrzejt1984
@andrzejt1984 11 ай бұрын
flowing the exhaust gas once the big turbo kiks in is an important topic. Especially when the difference is big (lick stock turbo + S400). The hot side of the small turbo with an integrated wastegate, might become a bottleneck. Any comments on how you solved that?

So for instance if have 2 of the same turbos that are rated at 10 psi each and I run them as compound I’m gonna get 30psi total?
@oldmate6380
@oldmate6380 5 ай бұрын
no they have to be different sizes to work properly, eg. the big turbos outlet has to be the same size as the smaller turbos inlet, otherwise changing tube size will cause pressure to go down

I've never heard the word "gearing" when talking about Turbochargers, only gear drives used with Centrifugal Blowers have different gear ratios that can be used. And No, a Compound Set-up is NOTHING like a Twin Turbo System.

@theobserver6639 the compressor ratios on a compound or sequential set up at two different size turbos always. Twins are the same ratio hints the name twin, also good luck twin turboing an inline engine.

This confused me a little with the extra info.. wouldn't the smaller turbo create a bottleneck for the larger turbo? Is the pressurized air coming from the larger turbo allowed to leak around the smaller turbos impeller? If not wouldn't the total possible airflow be limited by the smaller turbo.. obviously we know they work, just curious about limitations of usable power of the larger turbo based on what smaller turbo you have.. stupid brain.. lol
@1stMjolnirMarkV
@1stMjolnirMarkV Жыл бұрын
The smaller turbo is used to raise the boost pressure of the primary turbo air flow. The primary turbo increases air volume or density for the secondary turbo making the secondary turbo swallow and compress far more air than it could by itself.
