Trimming Lemongrass clumps is a fairly easy task, as long as you take a few precautions.

I tackled one earlier this week. I took to it with clippers, machete, and a shovel. It was 3 1/2 ft tall and a large diameter. I harvested 10 replants and left a nice original plant in the ground. The brown debris that gathers in the bottom of the plant must have some use in the garden as mulch, as I am drying the shoots, I trimmed for later use.

Lemongrass is such a hearty plant, and like you said, every part of it is useful.

We will try it, thanks!

Thank you for the video on how to trim lemon grass. I have two lemongrass plants that are pretty much out of control.

You’re very welcome, in the right growing conditions they get out of control pretty quickly 🪴

If you like spiced tea, like “chai”, lemongrass, along with ginger, cinnamon, cardamom makes a great addition!

Late January in Sydney, Australia, is quite warm and humid, so I'm only going to trim back all the overgrown layers on my lemongrass plant. As it's located up the back of the garage and out of sight, is the reason why it's been out of mind for so long and become so overgrown and out of hand. 🧐😵💫😀

Thank you for the video! I have 4 enormous lemongrass plants that are way out of control. You have taken the apprehension out of tackling these beautiful plants for me! They are all about 6’ tall and at least 4’ wide but they added such a wonderful addition to a narrow space against a fence that gets blazing FL sun all year round! Any further information you may have would be welcomed. I live in an association where I am limited to what I can do.

I agree, I put mine against the fences as well. I’m getting ready to trim again. Remember to wear long sleeves and gloves😉

Mine grew a ton of hard stalks with a wheat like tip.. I’m not a gardener so I don’t know what they are or how to explain them. Yesterday I took clippers and cut them off. I hope that was okay to do. My dog ran through a few of the bushes and really destroyed them and they still haven’t come back to the width they were almost a year ago. Any tips would be much appreciated! I’m also in FL about an hour south of Tampa.

The tall stalks have seeds on the end of them….they do look like wheat now that you mention it. I would add some compost around the base, and if there are any dead pieces you can pull them out and fresh lemongrass should fill in.
