That quote is ungodly. For those of us who are saved we are awake to the fact that our human nature is corrupted by sin its called on the flesh or the sin nature its that part of us we are to hate that self NOT the self that is in christ (our spirit man) or the born again us also know are the Spiritman.

Sometimes when I am tempted to feel sorry for myself about something, I think about Joni Eareckson Tada. She has been paralysed from the neck down for over 50 years, but instead of complaining, she writes books to encourage other Christians! I think if she can do that, who am I to feel sorry for myself? I think some Christians reading my comment might think that it is wrong to look to a mere human for inspiration. But I believe it's OK to do that, as long as we also look to the Lord. The New Testament encourages us to imitate each other's good points. So I like to try to imitate Joni in this respect.

I had literally just mustered up a Spirit empowered resolve for a week's worth of self-reflection yesterday. I've been growing passive over the past year - still despising sin and being put to anguish by it yet adorned with a sense of hopelessness in self and a blind dependence on the Holy Spirit. I call it blind because I was sitting there, doing absolutely nothing! As if His blessing had not come upon me, as the Jews wait for the Messiah who had already come! I thank God for this wonderful video that came at such a fitting time and I pray that my fellow brothers and sisters may strive alongside me that we may bear our cross with joy and gladness, with a Spirit empowered will to lay the demons to rest - not by our own strength, but of God's - Amen.

Thank you for this. This is coming at a time where I'm trying to find peace in my life. I learned recently that "self-esteem and self-love" are sinful, which completely astonished me because that's what we are taught these days. But, that's what happens when you desire to have a deeper relationship with God. I'm feeling low right now, but with God as my foundation now, I will always have the strength to endure.

A good self esteem and acceptance of yourself especially physically isn’t a sin when the source comes from Christ He gives us the confidence....
@maxaplin4204
@maxaplin4204 4 жыл бұрын
Self-esteem and the right sort of self-love are not sins. Firstly, self-esteem is about viewing yourself as valuable. And we are very valuable, so valuable that Jesus died on the cross for us. As Jesus says in Matt 10:31: 'You are worth more than many sparrows.' And secondly, in part love is about wanting what is truly good for a person. And there is nothing wrong with wanting what is truly good for ourselves. In Mark 12:31 Jesus says that the second most important command in the Old Testament is: 'Love your neighbour as yourself.' This means that we should love our neighbours as we rightly love ourselves. I pray that the Lord will lift your spirit.

Self confidence/love fueled by self is sinful and leads to failure or unhealthy selfish levels. Self confidence given by giving your attention to the Lord and His word will build your identity in Christ by understanding how God values you and finding what real pure love is will begin to break self pity. Your hunger for God's will will grow and so will your love for him. The emptiness will melt away and you will have a new identity in Christ. Through that, you will see value and be able to share that love by ministry to those around you. For me, I believe in God value/love (not "self" anything as it comes from God). I also believe that love shouldn't be harvested for self, but shared. You can care for self but not necessarily love. I know, I'm on the same path as you 😌 🙏.

@Diana21692 Diana, sometimes we need to, as the Bible says, "seek and ye shall find". Don't just hope that God will save you when you have no motivation to start the process. I'll help. First, you have to be willing to renew your mind and heart. How? Read books like Hosea, Matthew/Mark/Luke/John, Acts, Romans, Timothy, the story of Moses, Corinthians, ect...those show God's love as our actual Father or Judge or just our love. Second, begin to take your mind off of self! Self pity is still the same as self indulged. I know exterior stimuli will knock you down but knowing God's promises like "I'll never leave you nor forsake you"...as long as you seek him, will help. Lean not on your own understanding if it appears God isn't there for you. Building courage in Him and knowing His words aren't lies will take you a long way. I am comfortable in the Lord now when I am in my home BUT now, I have to work on applying that outside in society. We shall not fear none but God. We'll reach our goal of being filled with the truth and withstanding threat one day. I will pray for you! 🙂💕

@Diana21692 Let me tell you, I can laugh because I was in your position about 3 weeks ago (although my self pity and depression went far beyond then). I was always gloomy and barely saw the light until that trusted person broke my heart. I realized that I made them my literal world. They loved my personality and admitted how we have something special but they still didn't want to take things to the next level. My self pity started making me doubt myself and think I was undesirable blah blah blah....but how when he complimented me and said that timing was the issue? I laughed even though it hurt. It made me see my emotions were wrong and I was not trash. I saw that God wanted me to love him with all my soul instead of an unbelieving guy that actually cared enough to compliment me and admit he meant those compliments. My main point is you aren't the only one who went through feeling betrayed...I mean, JESUS even went through it by Judus, the Jews, Peter, and gentiles. He says "they hate you because they've hated me first". In other words, we aren't exempt from hurt. Like you've said, we are sinners. One thing I've realized is it was me that caused the consequences when God tried to warn me the guy wasn't in his plan for me.Guess who was there after? The Lord, to say he waited for me to come back. I was always a believer but I didn't under what real love was until my broken heart lead me back to the word. I now put the Lord above my feelings as our heart is deceitful. I know my story was romance based but can be applied to family or whatever. It may not seem like it but you won't feel this pain forever. Continue to read your Bible and seek God. That is the answer to healing!

When so many have taken and rolled it on God saying that He will take it away and my own efforts add nothing to it. I am glad that somebody is emphasizing that our own efforts have very much to do with the direction of our lives. Yes, He has given us the tools for Godly living but it is up to us to use those tools and make a difference. Okay, before somebody gets on a high religious horse and says it’s nothing but God; it IS God, His power and love that causes us to make a difference. Same time I am not blowing a horn for myself but I am giving God the glory There is a fine balance. That being said...for years I was struggling with lust. As it was described in this video, I fought as hard as I could yet again and again fall for it. All the teachings I’ve heard left me but confused and powerless. What happened to the “take my yoke upon you for my burden is light and yoke is easy”? But that is what religion does, leaves us powerless. Coming to the point where I got tired of being pushed around and bullied I decided “hell or high water” I am getting to KNOW this God or I will die trying. Started to seek God and the power which was promised to us by the Son. Some years took me to get close to Him to where I was hearing His voice. Not that He was far away but my “hearing” (which Jesus was speaking of) was not tuned to hear Him with the religious doctrine I received. Continuing to seek Him I suddenly noticed that I no longer struggle with the lust. Even more I came to realize that what I have heard was way too much emphasis on the sin issue when it is no longer an issue at all. John the Baptist said that Jesus will TAKE AWAY the sin. What, He failed? NO! Satan has successfully kept you bound with this sin thing when it is no longer a problem. I realized that fighting with this sin I completely lost focus on God. When if we have focus on God sin loses power over you. Sin, as it always has, separates you from God. The relationship you have with Him, it hinders it. If you “stumble”, don’t linger on that but as soon as you can get back to God and deal with it. It is not a big deal! Longer you sour on it tighter grip it has on you. Same time I have to warn you not take granted. Last and THE most important thing is the Holy Spirit for He is the power of God and the Teacher who guides you in to ALL truth. Be blessed!

I think we can use this principle, especially with fighting low self-esteem, but also with fighting anxiety too. We can speak out rejection of anxiety and low self-esteem. We are all extremely valuable in God's sight. We are no less important than people made in the image of God, and no less important than people who Jesus died for on the cross. We can speak these things out and reject low self-esteem.

Why did Jesus tell others to weep for themselves if self pity's a sin? Sorry I'm confused

He was not out to get our pity hence he said those words he laid his life down it was not taken from him He said those words because he saw the human condition & the judgment to come , he was compassionate to them. Put it like this he was saying "if you knew the judgment was coming you'd be crying for yourselves not me." It isn't really self pity when your about to be judged its more terror fear of what's about to happend to you the predominant emotion would be fear /terror NOT self-pity. So in context christ was putting them right in God's eyes it wasn't Jesus who was to be pityed but those who were pitying him at the crucifixion hence he said "father forgive them for They KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO"

Overwrought pedantic explanation that tired me out just listening. What’s with the lists? Also, psychologises the gospel Focuss on the pain of pahycholigy and ignoring th joy of the spirit. Ignores the holy spurt and supplants it with self chastisement. Ugh.

Why didn’t he just ask for acknowledgement and caring from his wife and daughter I’m sure they would have been willing to share their love in small acts of consideration and kindness. Then he wouldn’t have had to go to war with himself had he articulated his needs as any healthy relationship knows resentment creates unhealthy relationships full stop!!!

The women were obviously in the middle of something that he would not have had interest in. That's why they greeted him and explained what they were doing. The point that Pastor John is making is that he was using their behavior as an excuse to feel sorry for himself. He didn't really need their attention.
