China practises Meritocracy. People judge the perfromance of government officials everyday and all the way through their respective tenures. The Government officials' performances while in office, how well they work for and improve the peoples' lot are criteria for their promotion. This is true democracy. Wheras, in "Electoral democracy" pracised by the West and Taiwan, Government Officials are "elected" on their oratorial skill, ability to make empty promise. Promises that they break as soon as they are elected. Often time once in office, their only aim is to get relected the next time. That is what they channel their energy into, not how to make the country a better place, and improve the livelihood of the people therein.

Basically, the people of Taiwan can't be blamed if they don't want reunification with China. The vast majority of the young people don't want reunification. The question is how far will US go to help Taiwan if China really invades Taiwan. If China really successfully regains Taiwan, China will gain much power, prestige and influence in Asia. US will lose a lot of prestige and influence in Asia and it will not be considered as a reliable ally or a force to be reckoned with if Taiwan is lost to China.

But if China invades Taiwan, can US afford not intervening? If China regains Taiwan, US will be left with Japan and South Korea as their ally in that region. Apart from that, the troublesome North Korea in that region and a powerful China ( ruled by the CCP) will be all-powerful in the South China Sea. That is certainly not what US would want to see happening unless they are willing to dissengage in East Asia.

As a Medical Doctor, and a senior Citizen born and raised up in Hong Kong, having lived through the colonial era and times after return of Hong Kong to China, I have the following first hand information to input. What happened in 2019 in Hong Kong is a riot., a colour revolution schemed, staged, and backed by the U.S. It has NOTHING to do with Democracy or freedom at all. The U.S. had been working to desrupt Hong Kong Society and use it as a means to hopefully harm China. NED had been behind the whole event, backing up financially, with policy making and manpower. This subversion had been going on since the failure of Maragaret Thacher,s attempt to retain the British rule in Hong kong beyond 1997. It had followed, in true form, the script of colour revolution that U.S. had staged successfully in several Countries. The impressionable youths in Hong Kong, for at least over 2 generations, had been brainwashed with false narratives to hate China. ( Some similarity can be draw with the situation in Taiwan since DPP came to power.) These youths werer taught totally false narratives about lives under the Btritish rule. Contrary to what they had been brainwashed with, under the British rule, there had been NO Demoncracy or freedom. Persecution and deportion was ramprant under the British rule. Democracy, direct election was introduced in stages only since Hong Kong returned to China. These youths had been used as pawns to vandalise their own City and Homeland. There had been evidence that they ( at least the leaders of the riot ) had been well paid by agents of the U.S. to perform these acts of desruption.. During those days, ordinary law abiding Citizens of Hong Kong lived in fear, had their freedom taken way by these mobs. People voicing their disapproval of the acts of these thugs had been attacked, stabbed, burned alive and murdered by these mobsters. Meanwhile, the Western Press. except for a few with conscience, propagated twisted stories and narratives to demonise the Hong Kong Government and China. It is with luck, the steadfast unwavering dutiful work of the police, public support of the Hong Kong Citizens at large, and the implimentation of the "National Security Law" that the violent lawless mob failed. ( As far as the National Security Law goes, it is nothing different and much more lenient than Natonal Security Laws already implimented in Countries around the World, including and especially the U.S.. - though the Western Press agained propagated unfound and biased attacks on the NSL. ) Tsoi Y.M. and the DPP, in the meanwhile, capitalised on the Hong Kong situation, widely propagated the biased and fake Western Media report. By using scare mongering tactics, Tsoi and DPP won the Taiwan election. After acheiving their aim, afer the Taiwan election, their "support" for the "so called Hong Kong youths involved in the Democracy Movement" evaporated into thin air. Only to be picked up and used as a slogan again in the present election . I hope Taiwan people has the sense to see through these venomous Politicians. ( a Chinese narrative 政棍 much better and more appropriatelt describe thes dirty Politicians ) and Taiwan deserves and will have a better future.

Yes. It is an honorable stance to just be neutral. The whole world is watching. Personally, the people of China are compassionate and intelligent. They have the wisdom to craft their own kind of democracy that encompasses their culture. There is a big threat to this though, and it is the CCP under Xi. Taiwan must assist their persecuted brothers and sisters in mainland China. Yes, China must be ONE under a new form of government. Who will lead this cause? Remember, Ukraine was officially a neutral state before it was invaded in 2014. Neutrality does not mean safety, neutrality means that if I attack you, I get to fight you and you alone. The CCP’s desire to invade Taiwan is not dependent upon Taiwan’s affiliation with the US. If Taiwan were to proclaim its neutrality, the CCP would not kindly refrain from invading, but instead perceive as a message that if they attack Taiwan, no one else will come to help them. I understand the desire of the Taiwanese people to avoid a war. But cowardice is not the path to safety. Deterrence is. If Taiwan wishes to have peace, then they must convince Xi Jinping that the cost of invading Taiwan is greater than the benefits. There are three types of neutral states. There are those that are armed to the teeth, determined to protect themselves even without help, such as Cold War Sweden. There are those who assume they will be protected even without an official treaty, like Panama, because the major power of their region wouldn’t let an enemy control them. Finally, there are those who are neutral with neither of these things, such as 2013 Ukraine, 1939 Belgium, and Georgia. They tend to get invaded, for the simple reason that they are easier to invade.

Taiwan saved million Chinese refugees and ROC-China government in 1949 to 50's events. The Americans being the official occupier of all Japanese territories after the war permitted Chiang-Kai-Shek to act in their behalf on taking care of Taiwan in 1945 while the Japanese troops were leaving.

_"Chiang never sent a single soldier to invade Taiwan. "_ Taiwan was occupied by ROC-troops in 1945: the Japanese forces there had to surrender to the ROC. Further ROC-army divisions were then sent to the island in '47 to quell down an uprising of the Taiwanese against the ROC regime which had broken out due to the KMT's catastrophic mismanagement of the economy. A referendum to obtain the consent of the Taiwanese people for incorporation into "China" was never obtained. So, I think it is fair to say that Taiwan was invaded!

There's little reason to be concerned about China invading Taiwan. Due to China's one-child policy, each soldier has the responsibility of supporting six people. Significant casualties could threaten the stability of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and they are aware of this risk. Moreover, American involvement in Taiwan would primarily involve the use of planes, ships, and missiles, which simplifies engagement compared to ground warfare. Post-war insurgency is also unlikely in this scenario. Additionally, while Western democracy has its flaws, it's still preferable to CCP. Remember Hong Kong.

The current US leader pledges explicitly that he'd help Taiwan in a war, but who can guarantee what the next US president thinks, or the one after that? BY @jackychick I am a Hong konger, and it is absolutely ridiculous that the so-called resistance from activists were ALL supporting Hong Kong INDEPENDENCE. Only people who are nuts would think that is possible, yet almost all rioters as well as many protestors were demanding self determination like a referendum for independence. Almost all politicians from the so-called democratic party( in name only) broke the election laws on purpose and many were jailed subsequently despite repeated warnings from the government. Most of the activists who organised the protests were also trying to be famous in local media as they would be interviewed by many journalists and literally everyone of them tried to run for local elections ! Protests were simply tools for them to get media exposure. Western media in 2019 wanted to dump it down to communist sympathiers vs democracy protestors (blue and yellow ribbon in hong kong) when in fact the silent majority were both afraid of the communist AND they were even more afraid of fascist freedom fighters ( i.e the rioters) who hospitalised anyone that dared to exercise free speech and opposed their vandalism and violent protests. Doxxing was rampant as children and relatives of the police, or anyone who dared to oppose violent protests were threatened and their homes attacked. Many fled Hong Kong because they were arrested during the riots to escape potential prosecutions. what s the prosecution rate? out of 12000+ rioters, less than 1000 were sent to jail despite being caught red handed at the riots. Most were not even charged as you need beyond reasonable doubt in hong kong to prosecute a rioter. By wearing masks, most of them could not be identified even if they were arrested with rioting gears like helmets, huge umbrella on sunny day, protective gears etc. Out of every riot, e.g 300+ rioters, only 20+ would be arrested in the early months. i.e less than 10%. So out of 12000 people, with 99.3% of rioters got away with rioting as less than 1000 were jailed. This sad affair ultimately prompted Beijing to establish the national security law. So hong kongers could no longer legally commit treason, like flying to the Congress and demanding America to sanction hong kong and China if hong kong couldn't have a western style democracy. How many protestors were killed by the hong kong police during 5 months of protests and riots? ZERO. Did rioters kill anyone? One unarmed cleaner was murdered by a rioter in broad daylight as they got accustomed to throwing bricks at the police and they threw bricks at unarmed innocents for opposing violent protests. Another was set on fire and required multiple surgeries to survive. A total of at least 70+ unarmed innocents were severely hospitalised by rioters, a dozen required surgeries as the fascist mobs beat them to a pulp. Only a few were reported like they were isolated incidents when in fact the rioters brutality against unarmed innocents were happening EVERY SINGLE WEEK for FIVE months, terrorising millions of hong kongers. Solution? Many pretend to support them. e.g they stopped all the cars at motorways and demand drivers to donate money to their cause, so many simply shouted their protests slogans and they were immediately let go!

The main reason U$A will never able to compete in Chip manufacturing. All the country that do well in chip manufacturing , are Confucianism culture. For chip manufacturing, a high level of discipline is the key, and most Americans today don't possess it. They call it “forced labour" Taiwanese media reported on August 2 that TSMC claimed the production holdup at its Arizona facility was caused by a shortage of trained American labour and that they had sent staff from Taiwan to assist with the factory's development. Labour union officials in Arizona, on the other hand, criticised TSMC for exploiting this as a justification to bring in "low-wage foreign labour."

The old guy made no sense. If Taiwan would disarm tomorrow China would just walk step right in like they have in HongKong. If the old man can deal with that , so be it, the USA shouldn`t step in if they feel that way. The very uncertainty for China of the USA is why they haven`t done anything, yet. The younger guy reasoned what is the better system, (it`s not surprising he seems to be smarter than the old man). Choosing, Not between USA and China but between Taiwan and China. If, as the old man thinks it would be better to bow to Xi than fight for their freedoms even without USA soldiers fighting, they should just give up now. Maybe that is what the old man wants, bowing low is better than fighting. The young man should decide between those two choices also. If China attacks (or threatens to) and the USA fails to fight for Taiwan, does that mean China is correct that Taiwan should give up it`s freedoms and bow to the CCP.? Taiwan, Japan S. Korea and other regional countries need to think about mutual security and not just sit back and let your freedoms depend on the USA and let the USA talk for you. forever. What if the USA got hit by a meteorite would Taiwan let Xi walk over them? It would be sad if Taiwan would go that way The Asian countries need to tell China how they feel they want to live in peace but not at any cost. Taiwan has to ask themselves, "Can I live my life how I want to under a Xi regime and does it matter." If the answer is "I don`t care" then tell the USA that and we will mind our own business.
