I know. And while there was good play on Chelsea's part to set up the goal, it was a moderately distant finish from Kante. I love Ngolo, but if your one goal in a 2-1 loss is from Kante, that is not going to be an approach that can be easily built on.

Man i smashed liverpool 5-0 woth arsenal first game on anfield the secret is to exploit the space petween the full baccks and go fpr their weaker cbs. Saka scorde 2 goals auba scored and pepe did. I put high press on slah and mane and thats it.

Simlarily LFC are only paying 10% of Jota's £41 mil transfer in the first 12 months, leaving Tsimikas' £11.8 mil transfer the most expensive one for LFC this window.

The claim that having a considerably higher amount of goals compared to expected goals is unsustainable is completely unfounded. XG is an objective standard, so if Alisson is that good that he concedes fewer goals than is expected and Liverpool's forwards are that good at scoring that they score more than expected, they'll continue to outperform XG, thats not unsustainable, its just called being a lot better than the objective standard. Whilst a higher XG would certainly result in more goals, the results over a 2 season period prove that XG isn't everything.

xGoals isn’t an objective standard mate. That’s a fallacy. The percentages that are estimated from a pool of similar situations are not objective as the situations are not entirely the same.

As a Liverpool fan, if you pay attention to Arsenal victory (the 2nd half) and the games against Atletico Madrid, you gonna realize one of the main points to defeat liverpool it's to win inches and make Arnold and Robertson play into the middle, by dropping the lines and closing in, waiting for especiallly arnold to get nervous and make a cross into the box having no physical strength in the box for such a play, them speed up while lfc midfielders increase the pressure, and make the counters with more numbers

It only works on transitions or counter pressing, pressing too much on buildup won't do much good since they can play long passes.

@@dragndorf9 that's the difference, in the Arsenal game you see how Arsenal reap from their ruthlessness in front of goal. You have to be able to take the chances whenever they come. I believe these days almost all of the PL clubs have their go-to striker/forward who can score whenever the opportunity arises.

"Number 6: Beat the xG." The other points were perfectly valid, but here you might as well say "Number 6: score more goals." Having a good xG isn't a tactic that a team can employ, it's an indicator of the quality of chances a team prouduces.

I think they know that lmao. And you’re right ofc isn’t not a tactic. Point 6 was that Liverpool are unlikely to continue to outperform their xg so consistently and by such a margin. Teams might find themselves getting results against Liverpool without doing much different.

@@silvesta5027 Yeah I get that, I don't disagree with the point they're making. But I don't understand why they've listed it amongst the other tactics that can be employed. The title of the video is "How do you beat Liverpool tactically", and they begin it by saying that they've based their analysis on matches where Liverpool have lost the xG score, so it doesn't make sense to include this same point as a "tactic". The cause of something cannot simultaneously be the consequence of the same thing: that's just going round in circles. It could also just be a scripting oversight by the guys at Tifo, maybe brought on by the fact that they produce interesting content at very fast rate!

It would be interesting to see how Liverpool's xG changes depending on the game situation. Last season it felt like Liverpool put more effort into staying defensively tight when leading, which would have lead to a lower xG for themselves and potentially a higher xG to their opponents. I'd be particularly interested in how Liverpool compared to teams like City when the scoreline was 0-0.

But now there is (in no specific order)Liverpool City Chelsea Everton Man Utd Wolves Leicester Tottenham Arsenal Leeds Sheffield all fantastic teams with awesome managers and fans(except city of course :P) this year's league is one of the most competitive league i could ever think of in recent memory...

Interesting. Trying to overload the space behind Robertson frees him up to put crosses in if the attack breaks down. You’ve also got to try stop the front three, the fullbacks, defend set pieces perfectly.

Yeah I didn't really understand this. If their finishing/goalkeeping is very good, why should it not continue to be very good. Perhaps their players are just better and will therefore more consistently outperform their xG.

A lot of analyst's are starting to believe that perhaps Liverpool are doing something that xG is missing. They're supposed over performance of Xg has been remarkably consistent on a game to game basis across a large enough sample size that questions are being asked as to whether or not Xg is as all encompassing a model that it claims to be

@@olivergille8305 It's not, because it is applied without regard to the particular ability (or lack thereof) of the player getting the shot. You don't see a lot of Robertson/TAA etc. bombing in high crosses to Salah, they aim those for Firmino and Mane in open play just as one example of an approach that tilts xG. Mane and Firmino are very good in the air while Salah isn't.

The last two you mention were when Liverpool played the kids and when they’d already won the title. Fact is Liverpool have lost only 4 league games the last two seasons and 2 of those were when the title was won .

Over achieving their xG might not be possible but evolving their tactical play to actually increase their xG and therefore maintain attacking output is possible. Signing Thiago and Jota points to that

Point 6 is an interesting one. Why can’t “outperformance” of xG last? As far as I can tell LFC have outperformed their xG for about 3 seasons now, and with the injury record that the front 3 have, is there any reason at all to think they’re slowing down?
