Is there that much voltage drop when going more than 25'? If I were to use thicker gage wire and needed to go further from the controller than 25' but don't want to use a long-range receiver could I just use a higher gauge?

It's more about the data at that point, it's not designed to go longer distances.

Why Mattos pixels and not Ray Wu?

Ray Wu doesn't exactly have the cleanest track record. Sure, he's one of the biggest factories, but his pixels have also had big issues in the past (fires, reliability issues, etc). When you buy from a quality, US-based vendor, the pixels still get made in China, but you have someone on your side in the US that will guarantee the product.
