this is my attempt at trying to explain the important parts of childe's kit, common misconceptions, and cooldown management in a short amount of time. please leave a comment if you have anything else to add!

I'm sad that the best clips of Childe just murdering groups of enemies in the background is blurred. It's honestly the most satisfying part of Childe when a dozen riptide effects are just triggered at once^^

What you call a "traditional main dps" sounds more like what one might call a hypercarry dps, in common parlance. Basically a char who constitutes a large portion of the team's DPR (usually 60-70%). With that in mind, I agree that Childe is not a hypercarry DPS by any means. However, I would still argue that he is a DPS character. In International, Childe contributes around 40% of team DPR which is not negligible by any means. The thing about constellations is entirely due to him being an early character who came out in 1.x. most chars from that time have underwhelming constellations, like Zhongli, Eula, Venti, etc. They perfected the 5 star constellation recipe later and came out with people like Yelan and Ayaka.

thank you for the comment! i should clarify my stance; in the video i never said that he wasnt a DPS character. that was never my argument. however, i did say that he wasnt the traditional, more common type of "main dps" that is usually associated with the term, because of childe's one-of-a-kind playstyle. i do agree that he does a significant amount of damage, getting that huge burst vape at the start of the international rotation is very important frontloaded damage. and this can be debatable, but to me personally, i think "hypercarry" teams would include characters like xiao and wanderer, where they are contributing almost all of the teams damage with their most common supports like faruzan and bennett, who directly buff the on-fielder, and dont capitalize off of reactions for their damage. speaking of capitalizing off reactions, in the video i also mentioned yoimiya and hutao - who are "main dps" vaporize carries - but in my opinion, i would not classify them as hypercarries. although on-field vaporize carries also do a massive portion of the teams damage, they would be pretty underwhelming without the vaporize reaction. a very significant portion of damage also comes from the most common vaporize enabling teammates - xingqiu and yelan, who also happen to absolutely destroy in single-target scenarios even without on-field characters to capitalize off their hydro application. also i completely agree with you about constellations. im actually relatively new to genshin compared to most players (i only started playing around 6-7 months ago), so older character constellations are news to me. I have no idea what the state of the game was like back in 1.x versions. i only had a true fundamental understanding of the game at around the 3.5-3.6 versions.

@@michaeledison1974 it can all be found here: enka.network/u/662068256/ keep in mind that substats matter the most on childe. its really not worth bothering with a 4pc nymph or heart of depth unless you already have a really good set. 2pc 2pc combos are generally the best way to go.
