Күн бұрынNearly every artist has their own dedicated legion of fans, or “stans,” whether it’s Nicki Minaj’s Barbz or Ariana Grande’s Arianators. The term originates from Eminem’s 2000 song, “Stan,” where he raps from the perspective of a fan desperate for the Detroit MC’s attention. Since then, “Stan” has become a cult classic, and 17 years later, the word was officially added to the Oxford Living Dictionary, where it’s defined as “an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity.”

I made the mistake of saying BTS Army were a bit out of control on a video about fandoms. We should really differentiate the word stan from just being a hardcore fan. Stans are bad, you don't want to be a stan. The way people use 'stan' normalizes the stan behavior masquerading as a fan.

I am a huge Eminem fan and "Stan" did part in that. I was reading the lyrics on Genius, seeing what they mean and then did the same for "Bad Guy" and my mind was blown. Just completely blown. Never had I seen such deep lyrics before!
