I agree … Ren spoils us! He’s working on two different albums as well as two additional collaborations, one with Prof and one with Webby. I agree, I think music is his life force, so even with going to clinic 5 days a week, he’s always creating, recording, mixing, working on videos, etc. I’m just glad Ren’s well enough to do what he loves!

I think he wrote this on guitar in the Sick Boi era. He was waiting on clearance for the sample which is why it was released now. The original video was recorded back in January. Don't know when this acoustic version was recorded but my guess is around the same time. So excited for the next chapter of Ren which should be the guitar/songwriter version with some dope collabs

Can I just remind the obvious- most decent guitar players struggle to play and sing - to rap and sing and play at the sick advanced flawlessly played level while flowing - it is truly ridiculous. Love to Ren he is a source of so much Inspiration, nothing but hope for him to feel better and get better, hard to get better as a musician because he is THE TRUTH. Peace/

Always sending positive thoughts on his health, when he returns - he hasn't even scraped anywhere near what artistic explorations that he has within himself - I am so glad I stumbled upon Hi Ren and can experience the birth of the artistic musical genius of this time - it wouldn't surprise me if someday people will identify the 2020's by Ren surfacing like we do the 60's with The Beatles.

My son has been breaking down since the age of 4. It started with anxiety and a severe phobia and of being alone which at 28 he still has. He has been I. Fight/flight since he was 4 which has caused so many physical problems over the years along with adhd and ocd and depression. The list of his diagnosis is long and we still don’t know what all is correct. He can’t work. His life has been hell. He doesn’t even know what normal feels like, what being by himself for 5 minutes feels like, what it feels like to not feel trapped. Ren means so much to me because he gives me hope that maybe somehow my son will figure a way out of this hell.

Just watched the video on Ren's page then on to your video to hear your take on it. I always prefer the accustic versions also, they become more personal and another level of depth to them. The way Ren goes far away in his entire face as he say the words "Just to feel, I wish it was a metaphore, the struggle was real" goes right through me 🥺 Yes, most great artists seem to have paid the price at some point in their lifes for the gift they have been given. My husband has a very bad heart. He had a heart attack at 23. Has an implanted device that is both a deflb and pacemaker. He's 38 now, and it's failing. He's on the list for a transplant. This hurts, and is so beautiful.

Agreed I loved what he did remixing this. I can’t quite pin the melody in the beginning but somehow I keep coming back to an old police song. I just haven’t had a chance to go listen to a few songs. This is stunning. Stripped down, raw. The lyrics hit harder than the original. Also, his guitar work--I'm pretty sure this is Travis picking--is spot-on, note-perfect, even as he's delivering the lyrics.

To be fair, the intro is definitely some Django Reinhardt style. His vocals is what I find so interesting. The connection between british suburbia and the carribean islands either via vinyl pressings or immigration....has inexorably altered the landscape of british music over the past 50+ years. (Think I am lying? Just go listen to like 10+% of Sting's songs lol). Ren seems to not only have absorbed that, yet actually understood how and why.

Great reaction Cliff, you're post song synopsis is always so well stated and on point!! I saw a Ren reaction recently, never seen the reactor before but apparently he's a seasoned studio musician and producer, and it was about his 5th or 6th reaction to Ren, he said something along the lines of what you were saying, but in a very interesting way that I thought was pretty spot on...(paraphrasing)..."I've never seen an artist, or anyone, that is so in touch with their instrument, they're lyrics and the music that is coming out of them. It's almost like I'm watching an alien that's connected on some cellular level to his guitar, or piano or whatever instrument he picks up, it's truly astonishing in the best possible way!!" ✌💚

Fun fact: I almost positive he has studied the music of Django Reinhardt. That is a very iconic jazz style of guitar.

He mentions Django Reinhardt in his song the hunger so I wouldn't surprise me if he was. His talent is endless!!

@@BD-BOY22 Yeah? Unsurprising tbh, if true. Reinhardt was a very talented guitarist and he burnt his arm and hand badly enough where he had to relearn guitar regarding the fretting hand. (In fact...if you really want to play jazz style solo guitar in a euro style...I think you have to wrap your hand and play like django atleast a bit and on occassion. Basically you have to play with only 2 fingers and minimal thumb, iirc. The other (pick) hand is whatever. I dont think his other hand was heavily effected in the caravan fire. Such a crazy story from music history tbh.
