Great video Jason. The kit looks like it was an enjoyable process. Regarding paint, very few Ausfürung F/8 were grey. As far as I have seen, only the handful deployed to Norway and the vehicles used by LSSAH were grey as they were repainted by the units that way. All StuG F/8 were painted in the factory in "Tropentarn 2" which is RAL8020 base with about 30% of the vehicle covered in RAL7027. Additionally, StuG crews were not panzer grey but artillery crew so your figures will need to have the dark green-grey uniforms instead of black. But I assume the uniforms are close enough that the set you used should be entirely usable.

Don't sweat clamp types. StuG had both at this stage. And there isn't a late and early, they coexisted the whole war. We see F8s in tropen2, but if memory serves StuG F in grey is more likely than F8, I'll send Evan over here. Also, don't sweat sag too much either. You can see lots of weird things in pics. I struggle with link and length myself.

Hi Jason. I have just built this Takom kit, and it was dream to put together. There were a couple of minor fit issues, which you have covered here, but otherwise a joy to build. I did not attempt the guard over the binoculars as photo etch is always difficult for my tired old eyes and shaky hands, and this was beyond my skills. Otherwise it is out the of the box. I ended up painting in scheme three, and it looks OK. I really like the Takom kits, for their fit and detail. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺!

My understanding is that the StuG iii Ausf f/8 was produced from September 1942 - December 1942. Dunkelgelb was introduced until February 1943. So depending on when you want your StuG to represent. You could paint it Dunkelgrau with a white wash camouflage. Very nice build. Your video will be helpful when I start building my Takom StuG iii Ausf f/8 early production. Still haven’t decided what paint scheme I will uses. Thank you for sharing the video. Larry

Gotta luv a Stug. I love the mean squashed squat looking stance. It's up in my top 2 WW2 vehicles along with the ME 262. I can't really pick which is top as it differs depending on which picture of video I'm studying. Just hoping I can pick up a kit of the Stug some day soon. I was gifted an Airfix ME 262 kit a while back now just need to get the skills to do them justice. Keep modelling on Mr Champion👏👍

Very good kit and your build of it is very sharp and clean. That big photo-etch piece looks to be a real challenge. I like Takom kits, sharp detail, crisp molding and overall good fit without going mad with the part count. I am currently working on the British Grant tank, just making a start on the link & length tracks; my first time trying this method of construction. I have all those panzer colors split between two Hataka paint sets. Look forward to seeing it complete with base & figure(s).

I kind of got one of those panzer/armor crushes on the Stug 3 ever since I got to climb into one 2 years ago at a museum. And it has that kind of slick yet blocky sportscar vibe to it.

Thanks for the vid Jason, I got the the early and late almost finished with the late pretty much same issues it is a fun build. Loved the extras used some of them on the Tamiya Stug iii G that I started awhile back. The Panzermeister is right about the colors researched my arse off I should of just asked him in the first place!!

The antennas should have some amount of bend when the tank moves forward.

Nice build. Looks like a pretty sharp kit. Can’t wait to see what you do with the paint. MRP Dunkelgrau is absolutely the closest match to the real wartime paint. If you do want to try a bit of modulation before the whitewash, try a 10:2:1 mix of MRP Dunkelgrau, Tamiya Field Grey, and white. You’re correct about Tropen 2 for the F/8 rather than Dunkelgelb. Some were definitely Dunkelgrau, but more were Tropen 2. If you want a good Tropen 2 base colour (RAL 8020) the AK Real Colours version is by far the best (MRP’s is too dark).unfortunately no one does a good Tropen 2 second colour (RAL 7027), but there seem to be some pics of F/8s without the second colour… plus you wouldn’t really notice it anyway with the whitewash over top.

Watch panzermeister 36 for a build review on any stug review for a better build up then read instructions too but still looks good for your first tank build.

Nice update Jason. StuG is looking good. No advice on mrp paints as I’m not familiar with them. Someone will know. ✨👍✨

A few thoughts I couldn't arrange coherently - looks like the build is going well. I have recently also noticed that I'm having a hard time having all wheels level on almost every kit. Doesn't help that for the longest time I was using a piece of tile as my "level surface" only to notice it's crooked and warped in every direction after using it for almost a year. You had almost the same idea as I had for a Stug III Ausf. F8, I am planning on presenting a Stug from Kharkov with the exact same figures from Miniart, only I'm using the dragon kit. Really looking forward to seeing how your project shapes up. I read on track-link and armorama that the lower hull in all the Takom Panzer III kits is misshaped, with the torsion bars being in the wrong positions in relation to the upper hull. I wish it didn't bother me because I'm sure the difference is negligible, but now that I know, I can't handle it.

This looks very good. I think proper "working" track can't be beaten but it is time consuming to assemble. I am not really a fan of link and length but would it be possible on this kit to make the rear return roller adjustable to get the track tension just right. The bulge in the track after the sprocket is most notable when the vehicle is turning, but then only on the one outer side track.

I'am on same stage now, and I had same issues with the kit. It went quite easy for me couse I kept upper and lower part removeable too. Btw did you noticed that in manual left and right side of the track have different count of single tracks ? In my manual right was 11 front 9 back and left was 10 to 10 single links. Im gonna put some resin crew and soldiers on the enginecover part. Keep up with good wrok mate.

If you look at the vehicle from the underside, you will see that the suspension is asymmetrical. This is due to the torsion bars reaching all the way across the hull, so one side has to be offset slightly. That's the case on pretty much all torsion bar suspensions (Tiger, Panther, KV-1, etc.) except for the IS-3.

@@Panzermeister36 Are you sure bout Panthers and Tigers ( ofkoz in Stug You are ) I always thought that the swing arms going from front on one side and from the back on other site compensates this issue in Panthers and Tigers.
