My poor attempt at doing what I call the Sara Taylor type acrylic pour just shows how much work and effort went in to perfecting her technique. Not to mention how we have gotten to watch it evolve over the last few years.
If you read this ‪@SaraTaylor‬ your work is amazing!

Thanks for your encouragement and guidance. I’ve watched a bunch of vids and bought the stuff….procrastinating forever and I did my first one today. It came out amazing, way better than I could have ever imagined! I wrapped cling wrap around a canvas board so I can use the painting as a skin or in case it was yucky… what really helps with the colors not turning to mud is the basic color chart with the primary’s and doing a white or black between the groups so there’s no mud. I did add a few drops of silicone to my white too.

Bravo! I started my fluid art journey with @sarataylor, imo the toughest act to follow. I watched so many videos over and over until I thought I was ready to start collecting supplies. Her materials are some of the most expensive so it wasn't by any means the cheapest way to begin pouring. The one thing I learned and understood quickly was just how thin her paints really are and how important thorough tilting is. The last side you tilt has to be tilted back to get cells all around. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiments! Its a very deep rabbit hole lol

@@LeftBrainedArtist i think your "Frankenstein " lol, version will work to make cells for sure, just has to be thin as milk. Ive tinkered with her recipes and had great results so I know there's more than one way to get there for sure. I found that basic untinted satin enamel from Walmart works just as well as behr and using way less decoart satin enamel actually gives better cells.

Great vid. Thanks for explaining how it works. I’ve done a lot of pearl paintings using Sara Taylor as my guide but never knew why the different paints and additives made a difference. One thing I do differently than you did - I pour off almost all of the base paint. I get a lot more pearls with a very thin layer - sometimes too many pearls! I’ll often use a thin layer of the pearl mix only where I want a lot of pearls, and use a thin layer of a denser paint, such as Amsterdam, in the other areas. I’m not very good at controlling where the base paint goes as I stretch it out to get a very thin layer, but at least I get some areas with a lot of pearls and some areas with minimal pearls which is the look I prefer.

For this pour I am tilting that weight off pretty quickly after pouring so it isn't much of a problem. If I was leaving it all in the middle and then playing with it I might have to do that. I hadn't even thought of that honestly.

Add a little bit of white satin house paint to the color you want to cell. Maybe 1/2 house paint and half white acrylic paint. That generally "lightens" the paint enough for it to get pearl cells.

I don't like that Artist Loft in Soft Body. I just started painting about a month ago. I started with basic pours, but soon I was doing dutch pours. I had that Artist Loft Soft Body because that is what II saw other artists use. Little did I know they were using the older Artist Loft from before 2019-2020. I couldn't get my colors to blend with the Artist Loft no matter what I tried. I then was watching an artist I follow on KZfaq and heard her say not to use the newer bottles of Artist Loft because they changed up the formula. It wouldn't blend with my colors. It seemed to overtake the whole canvas and left way too many tiny white cells everywhere. So now I only use Amsterdam for my base unless I am doing a bloom. Yep, I am already trying the Bloom technique now. I've had much success with the bloom on smaller canvases, but not so much with bigger ones.
@LeftBrainedArtist
@LeftBrainedArtist Жыл бұрын
I generally only use it for thei particular technique. I haven't had the issue of it not mixing but I do know it doesn't react the way it used to for things like a Dutch pour.
