The emotions you suppress are waiting to be expressed! Registered Drama Therapist Anna Beck discusses using Drama Therapy to express emotion and enhance mental well-being. Drama Therapy is an active and experiential healing process. Anna shares case studies from her work in inpatient psychiatric treatment that encourage stepping outside of your comfort zone, embracing playfulness, and activating your imagination.
#DramaTherapy #SouthernUtahDramaTherapy #CreativeArtsTherapy Anna Beck is a Registered Drama Therapist who uses expressive arts to help people heal, grow, and transform. Through a life-long love of being on stage, Anna discovered the inherent nature of arts to improve mental and emotional well-being. Anna has Bachelor's degree in Musical Theatre and a Master’s Degree specializing in Drama Therapy. Working with hundreds of teens and women in Southern Utah, she specializes in using creative expression to treat complex trauma and other mental health issues. Anna also works as a Creative Consultant and Coach, providing clinically-informed experiences at conferences, workshops, and retreats. She loves spontaneous dance parties and singing loudly in her car with her champion of a husband and four magical children. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I am honored to know Anna Beck. She taught me how to really know how to “play” I can’t explain how grateful to have had an opportunity to learn from her. I am overwhelmed with gratitude n joy to see the growth between both Anna n I. I am at a loss for words to know that she is doing Ted talks. This is amazing.

I have CPTSD, Anxiety, Depression, BPD, and ADHD and I only feel in control and confident when I’m on stage. Applying the concept of acting to real life isn’t something I’ve ever considered, but I’m definitely going to start trying!

I also did have.. and one day I fell off the mountain and stay alive , no trauma, then, not so long ago I had a stroke and I could die. I be been thinking of it long time. And now I've realized that life is so important just as it is. Every moment we should feel and be happy, appreciate it: our relatives, family, all that we have. Don't live with the past, dont think about it, don't keep it in your mind. Just live, love yourself and people that are close to you. Live your life.

This is brilliant. As an actress from Ukraine I know the true power that acting can make to a person and I have always encouraged others to try drama classes. It can be very healing and I can’t imagine it’s power when it’s guided. Wow

❤ So well articulated, Anna! As a fellow drama therapist, I am still trying to find different ways to explain it to folks! I loved your line about how our approach is “light hearted” but not “light minded”! I’ll be quoting you from now on! Bravo! ❤

I have a son who is in the spectrum of autism (mild) but he is like flat on emotions, he doesn’t express love. Nobody can hug him or kiss him. I’ve heard of the term ALEXITIMIA and I think he must be going through that. But he wasn’t like that before. What could it be the best therapy for him?
