Guys like Roger Daltrey and John Lennon wanted to be like Elvis, but then, as they saw Elvis in the 60's and 70's, they were afraid of ending up like Elvis.

Elton John too said he wanted to be like Elvis but when he met him back stage one time he saw how "gone" Elvis was. He didn't want to end up like Elvis. He claims that Elvis saved his life.
