My research on all of these Fiskars has pointed out that the user needs to add water to the well under the rolling wheel, thus creating a wet stone effect. This is not indicated in the instructions, but yields a far superior result.

I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm kzfaq.infoUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.

When putting it back together, there is two stems that sit either side of that spring, just hold the spring away from its wanting edge before putting the pieces back together.

Why does the opening of that device remind me of a gun cleaning 😆... and then he clicks it back and forth like a slide ... anyone else ?? Does it roll joints too??? Looks kind of like my jay roller, but on a “contractor/builder” type of platform. I dig it. 😆

yes, i'd say in terms of evil it's somewhere between EA's marketing division and Josef Mengele. indeed our parents didn't know jack about sharpening, they just knew enough to get things to sorta-work for a minute or two while severely sleep-deprived in a kitchen that smelled like green baby-dumps.

For what it's worth, I bought one for $2 at an op shop. Trick to putting it together again is to start with spring on bottom piece curved away from the sharpening wheel, and make sure you click the top piece on with the spring lying between the two lugs in the top piece. (Hope that makes sense!)

@paulEG6

Out of the pull through sharpeners I’ve used the fiskars one (older design, same idea) with the rolling stone has been best, in that it doesn’t just peel blade steel off! Also, when the cover is off you can alter the angle of the edge you get by letting the knife sit deeper into the v of the stone👍🏻

Minosharp has a sharpener that works on a similiar principle and they recommend using a bit of water on the wheel, maybe that would help the Fiskers one as well.
@kylkim93
@kylkim93 3 жыл бұрын
The minosharp ones look to have a smooth face, while the Firskars Roll Sharp style wheels have a serrated face. I doubt the water would do anything for the fiskars, but I might be wrong.

I have whetstones at home for my nice Japanese knife, and small sharpening stone to sharpen stuff like my outdoor knife out in field. But to be honest, I use my victorinox chef's knife and pull trough sharpener of the same brand most. It's just easy and works really well. Knife will always be sharp for barely no effort and results are good enough. Certainly better than not sharpening because it's a bother.

I have the Smith's Angle Adjustable blade sharpener and its pull through. I think the companies might be subs to a parent company. They use the same yellow orange plastic builds. Btw the I use the 18° and 22° on my pocket knives and it hones with ceramic and carbide bits. It's not terrible. It's actually pretty good.

Thanks KZfaq for the 1 year old vid! The Smiths PP1 is my go to pull sharpener for quick and dirty. The axe side works much better since you get all the blade. I have the Fiskars 'just axe' version and I'm quite pleased with it. FYI I suck at sharpening anything. No muscle memory for angles. So, these are a big help.
