There is a thick film of serenity that lies over Botswana. My heart stopped pumping hard and slowed down taking in it's grandeur😍

That neighborhood is called "Block 10", just 10 minutes' walk to Airport Junction shopping mall. I have a house there that I'm renting out to a guy from San Francisco. The house is located just a street from the guest house where you stayed!

This good video is still relevant one year later. It would have been nice to have seen more prices of fresh produce--fruits, vegetables, nuts, and a bag of rice. According to the items in the video, we in the USA are paying, on average, around 2.5 times more for the same products. For example, that 25 lb bag of maize (we call that cornmeal) equates to $5.00 USD. I believe we paid $1 USD per pound of cornmeal the other day. If many products are being imported into the country at such a high rate, that means that there is opportunity to manufacture those same products inside the nation. My understanding is that most of Botswana is arid.

yah we import a lot things outside but slowly slowly we are reducing the imports. About Botswana whether expensive or not as compare to our neighbours. I think we are much better as i visited South Africa and Namibia. Some stuff are cheaper in South Africa while some are expensive. I heard another guy came here in Botswana from America, vlogging. He said that Botswana is cheaper as compare to America. He also moved around the shops or Malls. He said America is very expensive. In around 2001 we devalued our currency, pula. But that time, American dollar was equal to 1USD = P6.00 and now is P10.31 or P11.00 sometimes. We devalued it twice.

My experience is that Botswana is cheap to rent apartment than Namibia but its expensive on bed&breakfast only. Thus its much cheaper to rent flat or house in botswana than Namibia on a monthly basis. Only lodges & guesthouses are expensive.

I remember this day it was just after you had some bad experience and it was good to see you at least smiling and standing strong I think the fact that Botswana imports almost everything and mostly by road from mainly RSA I think the taxes, the vat makes prices to be slightly higher than in other neighboring countries.

The Pula is stronger than the Rand and Namibian dollar but they sell some of the goods I saw at the same price. Like that juice is 13 pula and it's N$ 13 (Namibia). Which makes it slightly expensive in Bots. One pula equals 1.33 N$, so the number should be lower in Bots I think. Not an economist by the way.

Good observation! South African chain stores never give us the benefit of the exchange rate and the authorities are usually unbothered, day light robbery!!

The cost of importing, insurance, VAT and other taxes for the most part do cause the consumer prices to be fairly high .

Very rarely does the currency exchange rate make for cheaper prices *for the same products!* But the foreign product that works better or worse but does the same job, may be DRASTICALLY different in prices!.. Often times usa hotel brands are too expensive for me to spend the money while on holiday, yet a hotel down the street from the u.s. brand, 3 times as nice, but local hotel chain is VERY AFFORDABLE!!!.. I ran into this a lot back when I was traveling b4 covid. Technology such as cellphones is usually similarly priced once the exchange rate is applied.

Me! I always wonder. In My brain I cannot get the rational how we Africans got program to use the values of one currency to access the value of the value cost of our products, services and lifestyle. Those two questions you asked wracks my brain too Damaris. God help Us Africans. I pray for us to produce and appreciate our own products. Neo Colonialism really finished our conciousness to appreciate ourselves.

A country is just like a person: if u spend(import) more than u earn(export), u r always broke. But the reverse makes u rich. The middle point is consuming more of what u produce and buying less.
