The game was the cheapest between BT6 to BT8, i remember building jesmon and BWG for so cheap. But BT14 was the real turning point when almost every super rare became expensive and it kept getting worse till today

Happy Birthday, Mario. I started in bt13, and was just building deck after deck after deck for super cheap. I built Beelze for about $50, Shine for under $50, Red Hybrid for not even $30, Wargreymon for under $40. I built Leviamon in bt15 for about $60. As for Secret rares in particular, Wargrey and Angemon in bt14 were basically always under $20, Fanglong and Gracenova for a while were about $20, and we had Metalgarurumon for $12-$20 in bt15. Now all of a sudden the Secret rares in bt16 are $50+. I had all my Magnamon stuff ready for that deck and then had to pass on finishing the it because there's no way in hell I'm spending $60 a piece for Magnamon. So bt16 was a bit of a shock for me. I'm really hoping BT17 prices are more like what I have been familiar with.

As someone who doesn't actively play the game (partly because no one is around to play with), I found this video really sobering and interesting. I'm glad to see that the prices haven't gone crazy just yet, I think the biggest reason why this is is because the Digimon fandom is just smaller overall, and I chalk the relative affordability to the playerbase being sensible. That said, I think we're to sensiticed with overly expensive TCG's in general, if you look at it objectively, it's still a lot of money to pay for a card game irrespective of the big 3, but I appreciate there more or less always being some kind of budget option. What I don't appreciate as much is how quickly cards tend to end up being obsolete in this game. Yes, certain key pieces hold their relevance, but in general, regular (common) cards in earlier sets are just eclipsed by cards in newer by a big margin.

It varies drastically IMO. Like; Numemon is cheap [Unless you go for Ruin Modes and DeathX's]; but most other top decks are indeed expensive.

The game isn't more expensive, your money is just worth less overall. Happy bday Mario

Happy Birthday Mario! I think the recent price increases is due to the frequent releases in order to catch up to the unification. I feel like Bandai had to print less quantities and supply for each set meanwhile demand is still the same if not, even higher than before. But I think this only applies to BT16 onwards until the day we fully unify. If so, I hope supply wouldn't be an issue by then.

It seems to me that a few things happened starting with BT14 - The buyout meta started on TCGPlayer, the return of playable 4x-of Secret Rares, and the reduction of competitive events. Personally, Bandai's ongoing "clear as day" set design also means you can basically tell immediately what cards in a set are more playable that others, so it's easier to keep pushing prices up. Well, that and people buying the presales so it's easier to raise the floor on prices.😞

Seems like a mix between power creep and a higher % of playable SR+ rarity cards. People need to buy more cards in a set to keep up (power creep), and the cards are more expensive due to higher demand, supply issues, etc. More decks also require SR+ cards. The TCG price of a box is usually a good indicator of the singles market, and the past couple sets have been insanely valuable. Sure there are still cheap decks that exist, but that's not the actual answer to "is digimon more expensive?" The fact is that if you want to play a tier 1 deck in 2024, you're gonna pay more than you did in past formats. Especially true now that a lot of the "historically cheaper" decks are becoming inflated (insectoids/imperial) or pushed out of the format (red hybrid/blue flare).

Game *feels* like it's gone up slightly in price, but at the end of the day, it's STILL not like Yu-Gi-Oh in the sense of having to buy 3(or more, I don't play Yu-Gi-Oh but I know it's expensive lol)100$ cards to make meta usually. Ruin Mode is an outlier I guess but usually don't need 3 of it. This game is definitely affordable imo, then and now, especially if you play base rarity decks. Happy Birthday Mario! Hope your day is absolutely wonderful!

The first year was expensive mostly because of supply issues. Bandai ALWAYS underprints their product for the first few sets because they don't want a lot of product sitting being wasteful if the game doesnt take off. The pull rates are also something important to look at as special booster 1.0 being a larger set had some bad pull rates on the SR cards making them harder to get than most other sets. Right now people might not know this but we had an increase in SR's per set but with the same SR pull ratio means we see less of any given SR making them harder to pull on which we are feeling and why the prices keep increasing. BT15 had bad pull rates, BT16 had supply issues (most likely due to BT15's lack in confidence), EX06 i am shocked is preforming the way it has but stores might just be in full greed because how BT16 was. Bandai has always been bad with promos and will always be bad with promos and some of the most expensive cards in the game are still promos due to how hard it is to get them. Like i do agree that the first year was the most expensive the game was but after that until now the game was fairly healthy and relatively cheap. Between the increased pricing and the direction of the meta if something isn't fixed there is probably going to be a large outcry and exodus only hurting the game. This whole Block 3 was a big mistake in its overall direction. lets hope by unification they can fix things.

really liked the content but i have to clarify one thing. pokemon is not 300 to 400 dollars per deck, worlds is coming up in about 3 weeks and most meta decks for worlds are around 40 to 80 dollars, some decks might reach the 100 dollar mark but thats pretty rare. it is a really cheap game in comparison to basically every other game

I have been playing since bt8 , i could basically make all the decks with 3 boxes and 50 bucks ... after they changed from 8 srs to 12 srs per fox, and the new secret rares that have gone from 20-40 to 40-60 i had to spend around 200 bucks and the 3 boxes from before to make all the decks. It got so bad that i no longer make all decks anymore, but if i want to make my mastermon deck, only mirai is 120 + 3 copies...

I dont think you can compare the beginning of the game with the present, especially because the supply and demand was not there, also the fact that we got a set and a half back to back screwed the second hand market, after that it went down and then up then down so on and so fort, it just so happens that we are in a climb and will not let uphopefullt until next year, after we are unified with japanese release. With that being said, we are still in a much better place compared even to one piece, and if you came from yugi, just remember how it was to play one of the only two or three meta decks

The amount of Cards in Digimon TCG is growing Set by Set. Therefore, endless reprints will become unsustainable and further exacerbate this issue. There's way one to solve both issues of increasing prices and power creep, in my opinion.... a hard Rotation! Easier Reprints for Cheaper Cards with very little Power Creep. And no gigantic Ban List✌ I genuinely feel a Rotation will soon be more and more relevant for levelling out Digimon TCG.
@TylerKhan
@TylerKhan Ай бұрын
Rotation is horrible. The reason there is so much verity in this game is that there isn’t rotation. Force of Will was a rising card game then they started rotation. It killed the game. If rotation is implemented in digimon. I’m out. I’m not about to deal with losing support for digimon decks I enjoy playing. Talk about prices also. The first set in rotation will be insanely expensive. Even more so with the shortage going on in a lot of places

The older cards are already pretty cheap aside from a few select cards. Adding a rotation would not truly fix the issue. The only upside to having rotation is to help keep power creep from getting out of hand. The main problem with trying to ADD rotation at this point is a death wish. The game was built on not having one. It would upset a large portion of the existing player base. Adding rotation would not bring people in and you'd cut off a large portion of your players is a terrible idea.
@TylerKhan
@TylerKhan Ай бұрын
@@AnalogBoy. you’re acting like rotation is needed and it isn’t my dude😂 the game isn’t made that way and older cards that are useless aren’t played. The ones that are, aren’t even that expensive especially in comparison to other tcg.
@Yous0147
@Yous0147 Ай бұрын
Rotation removes old cards. The most expensive cards tend to be the newest cards. Removing the old cards would make the new cards even more expensive. On your point about reprints, the problem isn't rotation, non-rotation, natural power creep or anything like that. It all comes back to Bandai and their monetization strategy. They have all the cards, they design the sets and sets up the promos and box toppers. If they had wanted to, they could relatively easily make the game more affordable and more open to new players, but that's not their strategy, simple as. The biggest reason why the game has stayed relatively affordable is because the playerbase is relatively smaller.
