Thank you for this video because I was almost on the hook for a fake job offer. I shared some of the same information that was on my resume with this "business." However, I gave them a different address (someone I know) because I was a little leary. The job is a remote position so I did my research and what I found seemed to be legit, but it still felt too good to be true. I don't know too many jobs that will send you a certified check or money for that matter if they have not met with you or even interviewed you.

I am an independent remote contractor and I usually spot scams in the first few interactions. I had one this week that took the time to make things look SUPER legit, but they couldn't answer why they wouldn't direct deposit and then they sent checks asking me to deposit. I lost 8 hours of my time doing work that was unnecessary but that's alright to avoid this. They also called me trying to convince me they were legit after I called them out which I laughed. No legit contract has ever called me about me not accepting their money only to do more work

Got into a rough moment with this. Asking me to deposit a 10k check however my bank declined it and gave me time to deal with it properly. And next thing I knew they took my whole bank account some how my dumb thought said this is worth it. Nah he asked for 2.5k and 2k in gift cards...... And threatened me with FBI and Prison from the guy who wanted me to work with him. Thank you for your video man. I needed this for my future.

I got the job one. I was trying to look for work during COVID, got a large check in the mail, was asked to send $$$$, and lost $2,060 once the check had bounced. Had to file a motion with my bank, a police report, and reports with the FBI and FTC. And despite that, the scammer was asking me for more $$$$. It was horrifying. So horrifying, I locked myself at home for 4 days, and stopped looking for work until things settled out.

How to defend your self against check fraud. Just don't use check period. Take direct deposit only. Or cash in hand. Simple and Easy solution.

This happened to me today. 1300. The scammer sent me an echeck and asked me help him to buy gift cards. I even didnt realize it was scam bc he was purchasing my works and also he made me hurry to think (also i was not vigilant). Later I realized that it was scam. What an expensive lesson.

This happened to me and still dealing with it. I applied for a job and got interviewed and “hired”. Got sent 2 checks to deposit in my bank account. My bank BOA been giving me the run around by sending me 2 denial claim letters along with an approval claim letter and now my account is overdrawn and the bank is expecting me to pay it back which won’t happen cause not only did I file a police report but now apart of a class action suit against them and Zelle among other companies. I still believe it was an inside job. I’m going to write the goodwill letter and fax all of the proof that I have to collections when it comes to that cause I’m not paying for anything and took this as a lesson learned

Currently being hit with the fake job offer one. I didn't catch on until I received the check in the mail and realized it's so incredibly unreal to be true. They asked me to do minimal work and sent me a check for around $2,500 and I guess I was so desperate for a gig that I gave some of my info to who I thought was an employer (Name, Address, and phone number) since it was on my resume. If anyone has any ideas on how I could get payback for this dude wasting my time let me know ! Lastly the guy has specified he does not want me to pay for anything yet but he messaged me two days in a row to see if the check came in yet which was another red flag, as if the whole thing wasn't a pretty giant red flag

I fell victim to a fake sugar baby deal recently and now I’m trying to see what the bank can do for me to help get the potentially illegal funds out of my account. This guy sent me an embarrassing fake looking check for 3800 via iMessage and I stupidly cashed it. It was too late when I realized it was a scam and now I’m wait for the personal bank at my bank to tell me what’s gonna happen.

My problem with checks is security. Yes, that's an obvious statement. One. When you cash a check; especially unsecure checks, what a lot of people don't understand is that YOUR bank actually lends you the money FIRST. Unfortunately, scammers knows this process for a long time. This, alone is how many people be gotten. Just because you got your money, doesn't mean your check was good. Once the bank verifies your checks is bad, they will OVERDRAFT you. In worse case, they will recall that check and you will always be responsible for the money YOU took out from them. It's really bad when you gave that money away already. Another problem, you could possibly face criminal charges on bad checks. Even if it not your intentions. Those offenses is federal offense too. The biggest flaws in checks that I don't agree with is that there is an open port on the firewall for the DESTINATION! What I'm saying is that checks only filters who receives the checks. Not what account the money is supposed to deposit on. It's like a computer firewall that doesn't set rules to the DESTINATION address and port. The flaw is that when you receive a check, you are free to deposit the SOURCE of the money to whatever DESTINATION of the account you wish to deposit. As long as you have an account with your name on it. What a bank may do if they are suspicious they will hold your check and contact the SOURCE of the bank to confirm a legitimate transaction first. Still, that's doesn't matter to what the SOURCE of the bank said to the DESTINATION of the bank. As long as the money is present on the account, good standing account and the sender of that check consent to sending off the money. And also, banks don't always check. Checks are NOT secure as long as the banking system are not requiring destination account number and routing source number to securely transfer the funds.

I thought I would add a little more to the comments I made over the weekend! At least when I was writing bad checks they were on a closed account, my own account. Like I said in 1992, I wrote over $5000.00 worth of checks on my own closed account so I had that many IBC's {Issuance o a bad check} So I went to rehab, and got a job at 19 years old at a communist pizza joint! It wasnt until 10 years later, that I started writing checks again! I racked up 28 Theft by Check cases! totalling about $3500.00 They combined all of those misdemeanors into one case which was a Misd. A, the closest you can get wihtouth being charged wirh a felony! I did my time and did probation and then sat out 33 days of restitution at $100.00 a day totalling about $3300.00. Again these checks were on a closed account. I always thought that as long as you have a check, you have money!! This is actualy true in a way, because I did pay off all that money!! So did I really hurt anyone besides just taking up some of my time, but it was worth it, the hotel rooms, parties, dope, beer and cars!!! I dont regret anything I have ever done in my life!! Will I do it again? Probably not!! I have 2 grandchildren now. But these people keep tryg to hire me with fake checks and I just laugh, because if I cash them, do you think I am really gonna send anyone else the money?I dont think so!!!!! i was a victim of this . I applied for a job through indeed and the guy sent me a check to work and wanted me to buy things for kids and to mail the products and the remaing amount I cashed .then I get a call from the bank saying I now owe them 1400.00 dollars.

I had this mural "artist" ask me to use one of my photos on instagram for "inspiration", and offered to pay me 2500 dollars in check which i would get 500 dollars out of, but i would have to pay him back 2000 dollars because thats his cut for his "art supplies". I soon figured out he was probably trying to send me a fake check. But now that i know what he's doing, just really pisses me off, I really want a good way to punish people like this.

My daughter, we informed the bank about the fake check at the same night and froze it but still widthrew money about 500 dollars by the fraudster the following morning and while we are in the bank about 10am, they froze the accounts yet my daughter still paying for the fraud or asked by the bank to pay the scam!!!
