I used all three of these products last fall. Was able to make it to the Kennewick, Washington conference. We have a modest 1 acre upick thornless berry farm in Oregon. Hope to have a great harvest this summer. Onward and upward.

Always the nice production on these videos, makes it easy to stay for the long ones. It always turns out to be worthwhile in this case the graphic example of one nutrient applied that ties up others, all in the name of doing good. "First, do no harm" applies here too.

When your guest talks about ppm, for the uninformed, say one ppm is one gram per tonne of soil I.e 1,800 ppm= 1.8 kg/ tonne.

In my opinion there is also a big rethinking would need to do regarding "yields". Nutrition needs to be measured. There's a growing suspicion that gluten intolerance isn't a fluke of nature, but our fault. That we are using nutritionally poor wheat, either because of a rubbish variety, or because we overfertilize and grow it in soils with such low organic matter (and low Brix). I heard Christine Jones saying in one of her talks that China is paying Australian wheat top dollar because it's high in nutrients. So in some cases it is monetized, at least for wheat. Is it the case for other crops ? And of course those high nutrient grains either come from farms newly established on virgin soils (so that are rich in organic matter) or farms that have rebuilt their soils with cover crops. IMO this how you promote regenerative agriculture. Because gram for gram, grain from a no-till cover crop farm with 5 % organic matter is far far higher in nutrients than grain from a 1% organic matter farm that tills, uses pesticides and a ton of nitrogen. And yet in most cases, those grains are sold for the same price unless one of them is organic and the other one isn't... The system is broken. And isn't another part of the problem that we're using wheat or corn varieties that are adapted to growing in high nitrogen fertilizing conditions ? Marc Andre Selosse was saying that we should do a selection the other way : finding the varieties that produce the most with the lowest amount of fertilizer, as it SHOULD BE. Instead, we are trying to find varieties that somehow survive our crappy soils... the very soils we've destroyed ourselves.

How do you "calculate" nitrogen application rate based on plant SAP analysis? If SAP shows total nitrogen is on the low end for example in wheat? What would be the recommended kg/ha nitrogen with foliar urea or amino acid or ammonium sulphate on soil that does not shut down soil biology (rhizophagy, mycorrhizal cooperation, etc) ?

I’m in Canada and wondering how I can plant cover crops when we typical only have 2-4 weeks after harvest until the frost comes. Is that long enough to establish the cover crop and gain fertility benefits? Also, what if there is little to no moisture?

Try camelina sativa, a brassica oil seed crop. It can be planted later than rye and apparently, still establish in Plains and Provinces.

John can you please let me know the availability of AEA products and print material for me as an Australian farmer. My limited knowledge was first triggered by a book, Hands on Agronamy and shortly after attending a seminar with the author Niel Kinsey. If I can extrapolate this awakening it would be discovering that high sodium will give a good Ph analysis.

@@AdvancingEcoAgriculture thank you, have been tracking you on u tube and written down a lot of your detailed info. Australian conditions have their own unique features mainly due to latitude and political structure so I do agree with the fact of developing and controlling were you can keep an eye on things. However the principals are the same as far as plant nutrition and soil health are concerned no matter were on "EARTH" one resides. I much appreciate your kind demeanour and clarity, it is up to me to apply the principles locally.
