How Firm a Foundation - W. Bell Reed Organ

Since September of 2018, this reed organ has been my winter project that took much longer and was more difficult than I had anticipated. It has been silent for many years, but since the restoration it is singing once again. The sound is produced by foot treadles - this is why it is often referred to as a 'pump organ'.
This reed organ was made by W. Bell, from Guelph, Ontario Canada, they became the largest reed organ manufacturer in Canada. The build date is estimated (using serial number reference) to be around 1878 to 1880.
The music played is the anonymous tune FOUNDATION, which first appeared in Joseph Funk's "A Compilation of Genuine Church Music" in 1832 - as a setting for this text How Firm a Foundation. The tune was also published with the text in Southern Harmony and Sacred Harp.

Rodney, That is a wonderful organ. Congratulations on bringing it back. I know the hymn from the sacred harp source. I have also sung the tune with different lyrics. Love it.

Ah a Bell! There are loads of these in the UK and I have one. Mine is a single manual of 17 stops, with the usual number of muted sets. Best feature - two independent 16’ sets of reeds in the left hand. Subbass 16’ encompassing the usual C-C octave but the very pleasing Bourdon Bass 16’ going all the way up to the split.

+rodneyjantzi *For how large a hall in terms of floor area is this W. Bell II/28 sized?* I'm writing up contingencies for two specific rooms at OMS Japanese Christian (Walnut Creek, CA, USA); the center hall of the Christian Education Wing can support a parlor organ, but Shinoda Hall has a 36' x 48' floor and three-dimensional ceiling needing a fair amount of power from the instrument.
