Merlin Sheldrake joins us to discuss fungi and the incredible impact they've had on our world. His book, Entangled Life, is out now: amzn.to/3I7FWGq
The more we learn about fungi, the less makes sense without them. They can change our minds, heal our bodies and even help us avoid environmental disaster; they are metabolic masters, earth-makers and key players in most of nature's processes. In Entangled Life, Merlin Sheldrake takes us on a mind-altering journey into their spectacular world, and reveals how these extraordinary organisms transform our understanding of our planet and life itself.

I’m reading his book right now and he just started to tell a story about how when he was 7, his parents took him on a vacation to hang out with their friend.. Terence McKenna. Yeah. He and his brother had no chance at being ‘normal’. And the world is better for it!

"Entangled Life" which I read earlier this year us one of my all time favourite popular science books. Absolutely riveting, connecting biology to sociology, ecology, philosopphy and more. Amazing achievment.

Same! ive heard Paul Stamets mention Sheldrake but star talk is my first encounter... getting Entangled life this week and I cant wait to further my understanding of this utterly awe instilling hidden world beneath us that it appears obvious we need to look after and treat with respect, I believe our continued existence is solely reliant on it, as much as the oxygen we breathe!

would love to know more about this... the fungi farming industry already is pretty sustainable in itself, the only aspect i found thus far which wasn't were the bags they're grown into - which contain plastic.

I've been learning how to grow over the last couple of months. I've grown a couple different species so far. (๑ˊ͈ ॢꇴ ˋ͈)〜♡॰ॱCan we just talk about how dang cute they are for a moment? Lil' mushrooms, poppin' up in weird places, their cute little shapes, the way they wiggle when you poke at them. I don't even like eating mushrooms, I just think they're so cute.

Psychedelic mushrooms should ideally not be used when alone, at least the first time. Just a tip. My first time I was alone, and I can tell that this kept me from going deep, I was scared to delve so deeply into myself. This is different when there is someone with you. They don't even have to do anything, just sitting there, maybe holding a hand. Not much more. They are a link to reality, they give security and a feeling of safety.

@@hansolowe19 however the person you choose to be with you needs to be the right person who knows when to talk and when to give you your space to enjoy your own journey, ideally someone who has tripped plenty before but at the very least someone who is going to be a positive influence and not someone who will ask leading questions or try to ‘guide’ your trip. They also need to be aware of when the person they are trip sitting needs to sit with their anxiety and work through it themselves and when they may actually need to intervene which is a very delicate balance, imo unless you have someone that you trust to do this, and has done it before, trip sitters are fantastic if they’re good at it, but I’ve found some of my best friends are actually the worst trip sitters bc they want to be too involved with the journey and in these cases it would be better to be alone, especially the first time which is often the most profound, it would be a shame to miss out on some of the lessons and revelations that may come bc your trip sitter was too interested in asking you questions, I’ve only found one or two people that I’d actually want to trip sit for me, most of my closest friends I actually wouldn’t want to do it, tripping /with/ them, absolutely, but not them sitting there sober while I’m tripping lmao
