On our trip to China in May 2019, we were invited to a factory where they showed us the many steps it takes to cut a gemstone into a round bead. We found it super fascinating and hope you enjoy this little glimpse into how your beads are made!

Thank you so much for sharing your trip to a Chinese bead-making factory so we can visually see the process and understand better the actual value of the beads that we select and use in our designs. I often tell my jewelry-making students that just because some beads originate from China does not mean they are bad or inferior, in fact, quite the opposite in many cases. There are valid concerns with metals and their differences in safety requirements with chemicals processing for components, but beads are quite amazing from all around the world. Sparkle on!

Thank you so much for this! I saw some 4mm agate beads for sale nearly as cheaply as glass beads and couldn't rest until I understood the process. -- I still don't understand how those tiny ones can be so cheap - but this is leagues forward in my knowledge. Thank you again, so much.

Oh my goodness, this is fascinating! Thank you so much for sharing. I'm wearing some gemstone bracelets right now, and to think, before they went through that process, they were formed sometimes millions of years ago by nature. Then humankind steps in. We're wearing a history and ingenuity when we wear these.
