Germany: The EU's heavyweight. Not only does it boast the largest population and economy within the EU, but it also stands as one of the most influential countries in the bloc. With a whopping 96 seats out of 720 in the EU Parliament, Germany isn't just participating; it's leading the charge, holding more than 13% of the total seats. And there is more! The leader of the biggest EU political party is German. And have you ever heard of this lady? Again, she is German.
Who is winning? This video will explain the main German parties: CDU/CSU, SPD, AfD, Greens, BSW, FDP and smaller parties like VOLT, Die Linke, etc. We will also look at the European Political groups: EPP, S&D, Renew Europe, Greens/EFA, ECR, ID, The Left and how they are associated to national parties. And then rank them at who is infront. We will also look at Ursula von der Leyen, Nicolas Schmit, Terry Reintke, etc and their impact on the EU Commission President race.

But that was back in 2015... Things can change in almost 10 years. And they have, because Merkel, who started the "migration disaster" was much more in the centre, than the current leader of the CDU, Merz, who is pretty far right in the CDU and has a lot of different opinions compared to Merkel

First of all this "migration disaster" is the only thing being able to safe Germany of a total collapse of the pension system and general economical growth and secondly since Merkel left the CDU has become much more right wing and populist, so they don't really care about migrants lifes anymore.

Ursula needs to go; she's a tragic failure. The EPP sheltered Orban, the only reason Orban is such a thorn in the EU's side is because the EPP coddled him for their own short-term gain. We need new leadership. The CDU/CSU states they are Strong on EU defense, but do not support Ukraine. The CDU/CSU states they want "very strict" immigration laws, but it's worse now than ever. People are frustrated and turning to far right parties. The CDU/CSU states they want a more competitive EU, but none of their plans will make much of a difference. Again, I agree that we need a strong EU defense, strong borders, and a strong economy, but very little of what the EPP has done promotes their own words. It's words, not deeds, not actions. There's a famous phrase, "When all is said and done, more will be said than done." This is EPP's mantra. We need new leadership. Ursula and the EPP both need to go.

It's sad but you need to remember that not voting or voting for the right is still a worse option every time. Without the FDP in the government coalition, the German government would have been able to do much stronger pro-worker and environmentalist politics, but that would have required the SPD or Greens to have an even larger victory in the last national election. So remember to vote, that is the only way to regain momentum for European leftists.

Here are some insights from which Danish political parties are pro-EU and which are pro-EU and which are sceptic! The current ruling government is composed of a coalition government of three parties call the SVM-government - the Social Democrats, the Left (Venstre) and the Moderates. However these parties are losing popularity and there is a rising populist party called the Denmark Democrats that might try to influence EU-policies. Hope you enjoy the read here! - Enhedslisten: Traditionally a left-wing, EU-sceptic party, but today is more pro-EU and engage in EU-elections - belongs to European United Left (GUE) / Nordic Green Left (NGL) - Socialist People's Party (SF): Moderate left and pro-EU, belonging to the Greens-EFA - Social Democrats (SD): Moderate left and pro-EU, belonging to the S&D - Social democrats - The Moderats: Centre right and pro-EU, beloning to Renew Europe - Venstre (The Left): A classical liberal centre right party, pro-EU and also part of Renew Europe group - The Denmark Democrats (DD): A right wing populist, liberal party, that are EU-sceptics yet are eager to join the EU-Parliament to influence policies from within, and are likely to team up with Identity and Democracy - Liberal Alliance (LA): A classical liberal right wing party, more economically liberal than The Left, and are pro-EU yet are sceptics regarding the democratic deficiencies in the EU From my understanding, current polls indicate that the parties like Liberal Alliance, the Denmark Democrats and the Socialist People's Party are going to gain far more votes in the next election, and I am super interested to see how this will influence the EU! It is a super interesting development in our politics at home, since these are mostly newly formed parties Denmark is also a pretty important member-state in the EU, we've sent a ton of support to Ukraine, we are increasing our military budget to over 2% BNP, and the current Executive Vice President of the European Commission is from Denmark! Kind regards from a Danish viewer!

Probably about the occupation of Moldova by Romania, because Moldova as a country existed many centuries before Romania was established. I don't know any Moldovan who would like to be part of Romania, but I know many Romanians who would like Moldova to be part of their country, which is not a sufficient argument for the merger of the two countries, especially since Romania is currently cooperating very strongly with Germany, as it was during World War II, and German, Austrian, Russian or Turkish arbitrations in this part of Europe are associated only with an attempt to play off the countries of the Western and Eastern Balkans and were always carried out under pressure, during conflicts or wars that these countries caused, so Germany and Romania will get away from the national issue of the Moldavian state ! Using a card such as Moldova's accession to the European Union as a result of the annexation of this country by Romania is an abuse by Germany and Romania of the entire idea of the European Union project for some nefarious purposes.

@DGAMINGEN
@DGAMINGEN 2 ай бұрын
Volt is essentially the opposite of the AfD. While the AfD is voted for by people that want to strenghten national sovereignty Volt believes that Europe should essentially become a united states of Europe. They are somewhat of a pro-EU protest party that opposes both the current middle system and other parties caving to the right to get support. Socially they are progressive and economically moderate to liberal (pro-market). DiEM25 is a similar group that is much more left-leaning on economics and socialist (they were the closest party to failing to gain a seat in the last German election).

@EUMadeSimple: You already touched a bit on the topic but I would love a video that goes into depth with the following: Just because different national parties belong to the same EU Group, the parties don’t necessarily agree on all matters. E.g. the Danish Social Democratic Party's stance on migration is a lot tougher than that of its EU Group, the S&D. Therefore I wonder: 1) Who ultimately decides the stance on the different EU matters (e.g. on migration, on green initiatives, on EU enlargement, etc.) in the individual EU Group and how do they decide what to vote on different pieces of law? (Is it the chairperson of Group? The largest national party represented in the individual Group? Or will they have to vote internally in the Group to find out how to think of topics or pieces of law? Or something else?) 2) What if a member of a Group does not agree with its Group’s stance on a topic or piece of law? Can they vote according to their own/national stance on the matter or must they vote according to whatever the Group thinks on the topic? In relation to the this; are there any written and/or unwritten rules about voting the EU Parliament. Finally, thank you for another informative video
@EUMadeSimple
@EUMadeSimple 2 ай бұрын
It is a very tough question on which I could create an entire video (which maybe I should). In short, the parties generally agree on big topics before they go into coalitions together. For example, The Greens from all over Europe will likely agree on 90% of strict green policies. While Renew Europe is very pro-business and anti-red tape, so they are likely to agree to 90% of policies that improve this. Also, before the elections they generally agree (and comprimise) on what their priorities are. Of course, more compromise might be made by countries with fewer MEP's that with more. Lastly, groups are no where near as united as national parties in countries. If you look at the voting records, it is very common for their to be 50-50 splits within European Political Groups. Take the EU reform proposal, where the EPP groups almost had a 33%-33%-33% split in support (for-neutral-against). This by no means a full answer - and I have put it on my lsit of potential videos as it is an interesting topic.

Moreover, while I initially supported Die Grünen's stance on Israel, their continued support has become unacceptable in my view, as Israel has gone way beyond just defending themselves and by this point they are complicit in Israels crimes. Conversely, my hesitation with Die Linke stems from their refusal to support Ukraine, alongside my discomfort with some extreme views held by a few of its members.

Then maybe the SPD might be a good choice for you? Most of the time when a proposal is approved in the parliament it's because it's a compromise between the the "three center parties" S&D (which the SPD is in) as well as Renew and EPP. I think this center block is a really good thing because it usually means that only reasonable decisions make it through that take multiple different views into account. Very one-sided or outlandish proposals usually don't get approved. I know that center leaning parties like the SPD are often perceived as "too compromising" but the ability to compromise is exactly what we need. Of course the ultimate decision is up to you. I just wanted to share the thoughts I had when I was reading your comment.

Nuclear shutdown in Germany was decided way before Grüne came to power and can't be undone realistically by any party. Also they just shut down multiple coal plants, so I don't see the increase reliance on coal power. With Linke we have to wait for there EU Program and so on to see what they want, because they just split and the pro-Putin and anti-Migrant people left to make their own Party, the BSW.

I don't think this overview gave a good overview on the parties. Acting like the CDU/CSU, AfD and BSW are comparable migration is just misinforming. The Union supports some restrictions on immigration but s far more moderate. This makes it seem like their major difference to the AfD is just the Pro-EU stance. I don't know if this done in an attempt to simplify to reach a wider audience but tbh I don't think there are many people that are into politics and get confused by political parties having small differences that matter in the long term. People aren't that stupid that they will get confused. I believe someone that doesn't know about German politics would be confused why some of the parties aren't working together. The CDU/CSU defenitely doesn't support "VERY strict migration" laws. I have no idea where you got that from. It also didn't really explain the BSW. Wagenknecht supports syncretic politics, being left-wing on economics and right-wing and pro-Russia on essentially all social issues. Similarly the opposition to buerocracy is mainly driven by economic liberalism and more freedom for company owners. Saying they are the only party to oppose ineffective buerocracy is incorrect and just taken out of their election program without any critical analysis. If you think there is too much buerocracy but also support workers rights and unions you still wouldn't even entertain voting for the FDP. Something else mentioned by others is the lack of any analysis of the "smaller parties" but especially the Left and the Free Voters both of which poll over 5% and get more support than "major" parties in many states. Parties such as Volt, ÖDP, THE PARTY or the Pirate Party are also household names for any German thats somewhat into party politics with the ÖDP especially having name recognition in Bavaria and The Party, Volt or Pirate Parties gaining in some cases double didgit support. I also don't think anyone would click of a video about EU elections in Germany because they learn about 12 instead of 6 parties especially because parties like The PARTY are just memorable to anyone that learns about them.

Sahra Wagenknecht is right on all social policies? Support of same sex marriage (which CDU was against of) is right wing? Support of legalization of weed is right wing? Support of legal abortion is right wing? Support of the idea that "people of different cultural backgrounds can coexist" is right wing? No weapon export and no military intervention is right wing? 😂 I am amused how Germans tend to define someone right wing because that political subject is calling for sricter immigration policies and doesn't want to support Ukraine militarily. The same Germans think that SPD and Greens are left wing because exporting weapon to Israel and Saudi Arabia during ethnic cleansing in Gaza and Yemen is such a left wing policy, supporting the racist right wing Israeli government is such s left wing policy, being supportive of car industry is such an environmentalist left wing policy, cutting budget for research and giving more to military is such a left wing policy, and privatisation of healthcare and public transport is such a left wing policy.😂

Unable to find any source. Current legal abortion laws are also known to be strict in Germany. "Support of the idea that "people of different cultural backgrounds can coexist" is right wing?" I have no context for this. "No army export and no military intervention is right wing?" Neo-nazi party III. Way is also pro palestine and anti weapons export. @withoutshadowww
@withoutshadowww 2 ай бұрын
@@DGAMINGEN Oh, please, it's well known that even Angela Merkel didn't vote for same sex marriage but abstained. MOST of CDU supporters either abstained or voted against. Not to mention that previously (when CDU was in coalition with FDP) they absolutely voted against. CSU just 2-3 years ago introduced lgbt in their programme, because they didn't want to be the only parliamentarian homophobes together with AFD. So, don't lie here, please. CDU is a strong supporter of imperialism (although all parliamentarian German parties except Die Linke nowadays kinda are) - CDU even supported the criminal US invasion of Iraq (luckily they were not in power back but SPD and Greens who were against). CDU loves exporting weapons to conflictual zones more then the others (not the only one I repeat), they are against dual citizenship, they support privatisations, they support car industry and highways over public transport, they don't care so much about climate change and global ecological justice, they support surveillance of citizens, etc. Of course they are on the right side of the spectrum in the Western and Northern European context. They used to be much more right wing, xenophobic, conservative, nationalistic, homophobic, authoritarian some decades ago, though. Tell me what Sahra's right wing policies are, apart from being for restrictive immigration measures (although I could remind you that Socialist Party of Netherlands has the same position)? Maybe because she calls Gaza an open prison... for German citizens that's a right wing position? 🤣 I guess that Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and all green and socialist parties outside the post-Nazi space (Germany and Austria) are also very right wing in that case. 😅 Btw, neo-Nazi party doesn't want to export weapon because they are isolationists, not because they care of human rights and threat of genocide, and has a pacifist agenda. The same with AFD -- they are a strong supporter of Israeli government because they have similar right wing policies, and they have no problem with more dead Muslims (they might love it), while the Green party has a different reason for supporting the weapon export even though the immoral and criminal ones of course (common for German post-Nazi confused subjects). After all, they have been brought to the Hague court these days. 😅 Also when it comes to export of weapon -- all democratic socialist and left green parties are against it across Europe (just look at Scandinavia), while all parliamentarian right wing and conservative parties are in support of it (you can also look at the same countries). Therefore, that policy of Sahra W. is a typical left wing policy, as many others policies of her. Go educate yourself, left is not just about identity politics, and restrictive immigration is not enough to be right wing (liberals often support more immigration because they want cheap exploitative labour, and liberals are center to right, not left by any mean). You have no context in regards to "coexistence of people of different cultural backgrounds"? Well, work on it. You can easily find online even some CDU/CSU politicians saying that Muslims/Islam doesn't belong to Germany or something similar, but you won't find that kind of discourse from Sahra W -- because simply she is not a right wing conservative and her worries in regards to immigration belong to a different context. Open up for the views, perspective and experiences from the outside. Don't be an autistic victim of the parochial pseudo-intellectual German simplifications.

I really like these videos, but I would encourage you to use more neutral language when discussing policies. In this video on immigration you have the greens and SPD as “fair migration policies.” That being their stated position is fine, but from a 3rd party analysis providing a positive statement like that makes it seem like the positive policy from the watchers perspective, especially compared to the “very strict” terminology used for other parties which comes across more extreme and thus negative. Consider using another term for their less strict migration policies. Overall great video though, always looking forward to the next one!

Nowadays the left wing is defined mostly through pushing for social equality, climate policies and improved welfare. Germany has some tiny, tiny far-left parties that genuinely advocate for communism but they have VERY little support.
