My appreciation of his work won't stop growing. And the way he explains everything is so rich with information and easily understandable. Thank you.

My story: 54, female, 240 lbs., pre diabetes, classic metabolic syndrome. On 7 medications, every joint in my body hurts, can't move, spikes depression and anxiety. Hate myself, hate my life. How on earth did I get there ? .... I read 'the obesity code', have nothing to loose, take it from there. 7 MONTHS LATER: IF (18 -20 hrs.) and healthy Keto. Lost 65 lbs., reversed t2diabetes ! Normal blood pressure! I walk, swim, bike and run. ALL PAIN IS GONE and have good keto bloodwork ! I LOVE my life and feel mentally so awake and clear; feel physically an athlete. I enrolled into my FIRST TRIATHLON in September 2022. THIS STORY IS MEANT As a motivation to everyone who feels like I did ! YOU CAN DO IT !

MY Healthy keto: using exclusively extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil. 1/2 Avocado&5olives, 2 egg whites,1 yolk daily. Grass fed beef, fatty fish, chicken etc. Vegetables and fruits, nuts, salads: low on carbs/sugar. Generell: Foods as close as natural as possible, preferably not processed or out of a box/barcode. Vegetable/bone broth helps me when I feel in need of salt or have cravings (rarely). I eat mindfully, until I am satiated, cut off time:7pm. I hope that gives you an idea and helps out.

This makes me more determined to get my sleep schedule under control. I've struggled with insomnia since childhood (and unsurprisingly, I've also struggled with my weight and energy levels), but the thing that really gets me is the inconsistency. I'll have a couple days of perfect sleep, and then I won't get more than 5 hours a night for the next two weeks. Now I'm in my 30's and finally feel like I'm reaching a place of balance, but it's taken a lot of work and it's only because I work from home now (because I can stay up and sleep later like my body seems to want).

@@simstar6557 Oh yes, I knew the risks, but I was desperate. I was trying to lose weight for decades, but I was never successful. I couldn't even walk down the street before feeling winded and had severe pain in my feet because of the weight. I knew I had to do something drastic or I would be dead in a few months. Fortunately, I was working remotely so I took advantage of the situation. The exercise helped a ton. I can now walk briskly around the block without losing my breath and no pain in my feet. I also did bi-monthly blood tests to make sure I wasn't deficient in any electrolytes. I also knew about refeeding syndrome risks, so I made sure not to overeat during my month long refeeding period. I was also afraid my GI system would "forget" how to digest food, but it is working fine. I've been dropping normal colored and well formed deuces on the regular.

I do sleep better with less carbs (I don’t do keto but I try to limit carbs and eat almost no sugar). I have found a regular sleep schedule is fairly miraculous in terms of quality sleep. 11:30-7:30 every day is perfect for me. I used to wake up a lot at night but now just once to go to the bathroom then right back to sleep. Also, if I don’t sleep well for some reason, I do find I eat more to try to get more energy, but it doesn’t really work.

I’ve been working night shift for the past year. I gained 10lbs within 5 months of working night shift. I struggled to lose those 10lbs because am always so hungry at night. I started doing the fasting and I’ve been able to lose about 5lbs. Not as fast as I would want to lose it but it’s hard when you are up all night and can’t get enough sleep during the day because you have other responsibilities. I still have 5more lbs to lose. Wish me luck. Ps. I workout at least 3 times a week.

There is one strange exception to this. In people with sleep apnea who start treatment with cpap and start to sleep more on average gain even more weight. And the more hrs they use there cpap the more weight they gain .

One thing that helps me is going outside and getting at leat 1 hour of sunshine on my face. I work in an office in the PNW. So not easy to do, especially in winter. I think taking a vitamin D3 supplement with K mq7 also helps.

as I watch this video what I contemplate is how much physical weight I have to release: (75.2 Lbs to be precisely exact!) for the sake of my health and for my well-being. the thing is though... I realize that I desperately also hold on to all the excess weight: for safety and for comfort. dear God, please please please, help the weight dissolve off of me, and please help me to no longer have the need to hold on to any of it, for the illusion of safety and protection. I am ready to be permanently, forever released from these shackles...

Boy that’s another excuse for my weight gain over many yrs- I was RN working night shift about 30 yrs of my career. The last 14 yrs I was working 12 hr night shifts., rarely got 5 hr sleep on work days and bout 7 on days off. My BGs (T1DM) were all over the map. Haven’t worked in 6 yr and my sleep patterns still aren’t that great but I usually get about 7 hr although interrupted needing to void at least once. Thanks for this report.

Great upload, Doc! Absolutely, sleep is so important, and I'm sure almost everyone would get more sleep if they could. With sleep disorders, it's easier said than done. Personally, I've never been a great sleeper, but I follow a very healthy OMAD, Low-Carb, and exercise regime, and have done for the past 6 years. Thanks - Leo Low-Carb Lion

I learned years ago that lack of sleep caused me to gain weight. I did home care and took an additional case overnight yet didn’t get any sleep the next day. I slept 5 nights a week for maybe for 6 hours. The weight flew on even though I ate less because I was working. I’m retired now but have not got into a healthy sleep pattern. Thanks for the reminder.

I’m a private-duty caregiver and work 12-hour night shifts. When I work days, I usually sleep pretty well, and feel pretty good. When I work nights, not so much. What are people who work nights supposed to do? I doubt I even get six hours a day.

Doc, what if a person sleeps for 6 hours, wake up in the morning, and then take a nap in the afternoon for 1.5 hour. Will that count as 7.5 hours of sleep/day and that person will benefit from the higher leptin level and more weight loss or does nap not count??
@larryc1616

Yes that happens to me too with 6 hours. It means you're sleeping too little. I don't have that napping problem if I get 6.5hours of sleep.

You lose weight after 8 hours of waking too, assuming you don't eat or drink in that time. Our bodies constantly lose weight through urine and water vapor in breath.
