How Giant Tsunamis Work?

They come unexpectedly, grow to the size of a multi-storey building and destroy everything in their path, taking thousands of lives. No, these aren't monsters from popular films. I'm talking about ordinary seawater that suddenly gathers into a tsunami. If you think they'll never concern you, I wouldn't be so sure. How do you recognize such an impending threat? And how does the ocean produce such killer waves?

I'm a survivor of tsunami and earthquake disasters 2018 in Palu, Indonesia. It was a really frightening moment for me being the one of all people whom running away for our lifes. People carrying their own kids, babies, crying, hungry and praying for their safety. But I'm glad today we are slowly recovering because the hand of good people working tirelessly for humanity and charities came from across the globe.

Christ is returning for those who follow him. Repent, believe and have faith in the living God. I wish what is coming next on no man, those who have ears to hear - hear the spirit and discern the time. Those who have eyes to see - look around you and evaluate how you've been kept obedient to the lies of deceitful people. This world is not going back to "normal". Please get aboard the ark which is Jesus Christ before it's too late, because just like in the days of Noah when those gates close everyone left will have to die for their disbelief. You can still be saved after the rapture but you won't be leaving the Earth alive, and the torture the anti-christ will put believers through I couldn't imagine please hear me. God promised that he would never again flood the world, so instead he has given it up to it's lies, disillusions, false justice, manipulated governments, evil and wickedness run rampant. Put all your faith in Christ and you will see the parting of the sky just like the red sea by Moses and Christ will call you up personally with the brothers and sisters dead and living and be given immortal bodies and taken to Heaven until the tribulation is over and the Earth and Heaven pass away and God creates a new Earth and a new Heaven and a New Jerusalem then the 1000 year reign of Christ begins, corruption, sin, and death which is a result of both of these things and because of those things the only reason God could no longer tabernacle with man after what happened in the garden of Eden.

I know the animations of the waves look like that to help us picture the tsunami and because a big wave is universally associated with tsunami but it's not how it looks like in real life. You don't really see a gigantic wall of water like in the movies. The water usually recedes, then comes back quickly (often foaming like a wave at the beach but not that bigger than usual). But the water keeps coming and coming and rising, overflowing walls and buildings and sweeping anything not bolted down with itself. So it's not a gigantic wave but more of a steady but very quick rise in water that often reaches few stores high. Of course there might be waves by the shore, it's caused by friction so it's kinda typical, also currents and whirlpools too but it's not really how we usually picture a tsunami and not how it's pictured in most of the clips here

I was caught in a tsunami at Del Mar, California in 1964. The Anchorage earthquake that destroyed Fairbanks, Alaska sent a surge down the coast. I was on the beach and the water receded and I went down to check it out... Then this wall of white water came and carried me all the way up to the bluffs... The water was full of sand and every time I tried to stand my legs got knocked out from under me, so I "starfished" and dug my hands and feet down into the sand and I anchored myself as best I could... The water was only about a foot deep by that time. Coolers and picnic baskets were bobbing in the surf. All surfers and picnicers left the beach in a great hurry.

I experienced an earthquake of 7.1 mag 2 years ago while hanging out at my friend’s house, it was small for a few seconds and all a sudden it shook violently where a bunch of the paintings fell and the light were turning on and off, me and my friends ran from the second floor to the first and outside to the streets, his fish pond i’d say 15% of the water went out because of the earthquake, where i lived was an island and I’m glad that there weren’t any tsunami that night

This is part of the reason why I’m so happy to live in Toronto, an area where you never ever have to worry about major natural disasters. The worst we ever get is the occasional powerful thunderstorm or very brief small tornadoes, that cause very little damage. We don’t have earthquakes, we don’t have hurricanes, the only flooding we get are in very tiny segments of the city it doesn’t affect the general population at all. In fact I would go as far as saying it’s probably one of the safest cities in the world in regards to natural disaster, and even though we do have gun violence, it’s nothing compared to most other big cities. I know that has nothing to do with tsunami’s, but if we’re talking about safety, I’m thrilled that I was born, I have spent my entire life here, on the shores of Lake Ontario, which will never ever produce a tsunami, because it’s too small, and we have no major faultlines anywhere that can produce something so horrific and powerful. We’ve had some pretty rough storms, what compared to what the rest of the world has faced, it’s just a drop in the bucket. I’ve never seen a tsunami in person, and I pray that I never have to, after watching KZfaq videos, my heart breaks for the hundreds of millions of people all over the world that have been affected by noches tsunami‘s but by the earthquakes that create them. It’s just so ironic that the one thing that we cannot live without, can also be the one thing that can completely kill every single one of us in seconds. Nature is not something to be taken for granted, not something to be ignored or mistreated, but something to be appreciated, respected, and never ignored, there’s a reason they have a saying “never turn your back on the ocean“. I have friends, actually many friends that lost their entire family and they tsunami‘s that happened in the Indian ocean and then again in Japan, I’ve seen the devastation and the resulting never ending pain survivors feel. For what it’s worth, I offer my heartfelt sympathy for every single person devastated.

I've never seen a tsunami but I've witnessed dozens of flash floods but the most awe inspiring natural disaster I've seen was a massive tornado back in 1999. Me and my dad were on a cross country trip and found ourselves in Oklahoma City that day in '99 when they got hit hard. I don't remember what the rating of the tornado was or how many there were that day, I just remember parking our truck underneath an overpass to avoid the huge hail beating down on us that were about the size of baseball's and I remember looking back at our camper trailer rocking side to side like giants were fighting on each side trying to roll it over onto the other. But the scariest part of that day was looking out my dad's window and seeing in the distance a massive black wall moving across the horizon and realizing it was a tornado and exactly how big it was. We were dozens of miles away and still it seemed to take up half of the skyline. I'll never forget that trip. It was fated to be full of amazing experiences, most of which were wonderful and now that my dad has passed I will cherish the memories of everything that happened good and bad.

I have witnessed Hurricane Irene, which destroyed half a neighborhood in 2011, a year before the infamous Sandy of 2012. I can assure you that they caused more damage than any tsunami.

Guys there was a teacher and his class in a tsunami in japan and they tried to move up to a hill where they would be safe. All the children died and the teacher was the sole survivor. The parents got mad at him for not taking care of their kids. He committed suicide 1 month later. tsunamis can be devastating and there is a very short time to escape and with hurricanes you have a warning at least

story time even though nobody asked :D So I remember I was at the zoo that I lived not too far away from. We were on the train ride going around the whole zoo visiting all the amazing animals. What we didn’t know was that there was an earthquake while we were on the train! Someone called the people who were accompanying me and told them to go back to their home. We didn’t feel any part of the earthquake though which was why they didn’t stop the ride. The person on the phone explained to us there was a minor earthquake and was confused how we didn’t feel it. I didn’t think much of it back then but I’m so grateful the earth quake wasn’t serious. And now I’m a lot more cautious these days so I’ll be prepared.

My Parents lived in India and after the Tsunami of 2004 it took my Mother a week to get ahold of one of her good friends, she happened to be close to the water when it hit, she saw a lady with her 2 kids, the water swept her daughter and son seoerate directions as she resued her daughter her son was too far, the last thing she heard from her son was "Mom why Won't you help me?" I can't imagine her Pain

Mention of Krakatoa reminded me of Squidward from SpongeBob, now I know that reference.
