So, NCAA soccer in this era isn't like other NCAA sports, in that D2 and D3 schools commonly have rosters just as technically talented or even more talented than D1 schools. It's partly because D2 and D3 commonly get players that have washed out of professional youth academies in Europe. D1, D2, or D3, the truth is the best young American players today aren't playing college ball at all. They go straight from MLS Next to MLS or Europe. Regardless of the division, college ball doesn't do much to develop players further, because they only play for a small part of the year, so it's basically four years of stalled development at a crucial age-development window. College ball is where good-but-not-quite-good-enough young players go to conclude their competitive playing days by getting a college degree via athletic scholarship as a consolation prize. Truthfully, the quality that most often separates the kids destined for college ball and the ones set on an actual professional track isn't technical ability, it's pure athleticism. Nate here is awesome, but he's not tall with a freakish wingspan, so he gets passed over when professional scouts are sifting through talent. It's not Nate's fault. Jorge Campos would, unjustly, never get the chance to play professionally in today's era.

It’s obvious he had D1 offers but chose a good academic D3 school. Outta high school I went D1 but I knew it was overrated and wanted to pursue my degree on top of soccer and I transferred to a NESCAC school. Keep up the good work!
