No. RTS games (especially ones like made by Ensemble Studio) have what is called Synchronization. This has allowed essentially 'no cheating' across games that have lasted large amounts of time, with no real anti-cheat measures implemented. If you change something that seems 'off' to the other player or players, the game will out of sync and end. This is why real cheaters could never become even slightly good players at AoE, AoE2, AoM, AoE3, etc., other than by the fact these games are now old and RTS games can have unranked cheating (see below). Synchronization protects 'most' RTS games successfully, which is why cheaters and low skill players tend to hate the fact that they can't just cheat, they tend to give bad reviews and uninstall on newer RTS games because they are less skillful than before. To pretend like it hasn't been tried would be wrong. For example, what if you sent everyone fake 'normal' values, but your game is giving you better units and resources? Well to everyone else's screen it will just show you doing stupid ass shit that you think is working, e.g. enhanced units you cheated will be attacking but already be dead and useless, you would likely be losing while thinking you were winning, and eventually when the game does recognize the difference and is too confused it will just out of sync. Feasibly the only thing some pros might do is reading values which means maybe they can see an opponents resources and buildings to see how to react (unlikely but can be done, and won't make you a pro player anyway). You'd still have to play at a high level, learning how to repeat the strats that were posted for almost 10+ years, and learning how to beat/adapt/micro better as well; which is why though Ensemble Studio's games are balanced, they're not really new and it's not too useful to compete, (at some point I had 2000+ ELO at each of these games which is top 100 to top 1 ranges especially considering this was like 10 years ago). Players still 'cheat' in any way possible in RTS, for example, team stacking, playing 'easier' maps, refusing to play higher ranked players, but there isn't actual ranked cheating. This tends to make sure if there are better players, there's way too many dumb/bad players that go on your team so they'll likely just waste your time and win with slightly better team/easy defensive maps/other advantages. There's also custom gamemodes/scenarios, where hosts modified customs maps to increase their units/building stats, but anyone with a brain will spot it and point it out. There are less balanced games that claim to be RTS games but are actually crap where you have too many pre-advantages, so there is no 'best man wins' in such games, simply learning what is the best thing to do and no counters/balances. So yes, if you thought you could cheat, and you're amazed you are lacking RTS skills and general brains, it's your fault, and you can't usually cheat at it, which is great for competition as there's no fakers like in various gambling and children's FPS games; although there are still 'fakers' on bad RTS games that are not balanced and they stupidly compete at it anyway.

1v1 is good?

@@SamuraiRevolution started following aoe3 recently and the tournaments seem to use their own patch so i was just curious

@@0nni1998 yeah they mostly use the esoc patch but that's just a rebalancing esp for 1v1. 1v1 is still viable on the original patch though.

1v1 is fine 3v3 is just more fun.

Its not the worst matchup. Strelets dont have a bonus vs light cav. At times its just better to take bad matchups to soak and wait for the cav to show.
