Are you serious? They were only really good in the mid to late 90s when Manning and Martin were there. And even then they were lucky to win the 98' title, FSU had to play their back up QB and still almost won. Tennessee has simply been an average program for decades now other than that little window

Thank you for calling out the receivers! All last year I said Joe Milton wasn’t as bad as everyone painted him out to be and that his receivers didn’t give him much help. This is one my concerns this year is will they help Nico out, and will our good receivers stay healthy.
@gwhite7136
@gwhite7136 3 ай бұрын
I think part of Joe's trouble was the scheme. They avoided scheming much vertical for him for much of the season. You need that to improve your passing. The WR's were there but if your not scheming for Joe to go vertically, it hurts your QB production and scoring production. I don't think we'll have that issue this year. Even during the VA game and Austin Peay game's why in heavens did we not scheme for Joe to go vertical in those games??? Than when you see the first half of the Bama game what he was capable of, you know then this was probably more on the coaching scheme for Joe early on. I felt they were too conservative him in scheming vertical that in games against UGA where you needed that experience, it wasn't there. Same with the Mizzou game. Joe was the first QB on Heupel's resume that wasn't considered a good to elite passer so their development and game scheme with him was an outlier and a different route than they've ever had to go.
@greenwave819

@@gwhite7136 Joe also didn't run enough and didn't have enough touch on the middle passes. Sure, some of it was on the WRs. and it didn't help that Bru went down and Thronton was slow to break out.

How’s biggest problem was making decisions 1 second too late. Receiver play was definitely not up to par, but so many throws throughout the season could have massive gains and potentially TDs. But he would always second guess his decision making before realizing he had it right with his decision and throwing the ball.

If Ramel Keyon catches all those TD’s and deep balls last year and Thorton doesn’t have the drops until the Kentucky game. Milton’s year looks completely different. And that’s not including the rest of the receivers bad drops and poor route choices.

@@atl_sp4941 yes, some of it is on the WRs... also, it is very hard to catch a 90mph pass that is off target even by a small mark. The game is full speed with pads on, the ball needs to be thrown at the right time and the right window

IMO, they can be a top 10 team, but I'm calling 2024 as a 10-2, maybe 9-3 year, and barely missing the playoffs. So a good year with growth at key positions, but 2025 will be off the chain.

I think this has to be the year over 2025. It's close but we lose a ton off the defensive line and some off the O'line in 25. I think Nico will be NIco in both years and he's not likely to improve so much over how good he can be this year, that is somehow makes up for the losses off those lines. Even Pearce being gone is going to be noticed. AS long as we scheme vertical and play smart this year offensively, let our offense score some points the defense will make the largest impact. Should take some pressure off that secondary if the line is as good as we think it will be.

I think it's possible for TN to lose at OU but I'm still taking TN and even if they lose that game, I still think they can beat Bama in Neyland. Non-Saban team, iffy QB in a new style of offense with tons of players removed from even the team a year ago. I think we'll score tons of points and how good the D'line is might determine alot of our secondary success. But the secondary improved from 128th in 22 to 64th in 23. Texas had the 126th ranked secondary last year and still made it to the playoffs. If our offense is good enough and the D'line is as advertised, we could be top 45 secondary and 11-1, 12-0, 10-2 and be in the playoffs. But that OU game is key for confidence and production.

They weren't, TN skull drugg them through the 90's. Gene Stallings was a good coach but Bama was never as good as they were under Saban. But yeah, the dynasty is lover.. lol. Sorry but NIL ran your coach off in two seasons and TN hung 52 on you all. More than anyone has in over 100 years and Heupel did it in year two.. Unlikely. He took the nations number 5 defense to the woodshed, didn't turn it over once and scored 4 TD's and that was his Freshman first start. 3 losses are possible on that schedule. Good enough though to win every game. But who do you think the 4th loss would come from? NC state? lol. This is probably the deepest TN team since 05 season. The defense might be SEC #1, projected to be top 3 D line, so that will make life easier in the secondary. TN went from secondary ranking in 22 of 128th to 64th in 23, as bad as you think the TN secondary was, Texas's secondary was 126th last season. If the offense is good enough, it won't matter much and if the D'line is elite.

UF is at TN and no shot at winning that., Bama is at TN and if TN is a top 5 offense, I think it's too much to ask of a first year HC to win in Neyland. Joe Milton was up 20-7 at Bama last year at halftime with a deeper Bama team than the one you'll see this season. I don't know what UGA is without Bowers and playing TN if TN has fewer injuries this season than they did last season, plus a vertical offense compared to last season. OU, first year QB, first year in the SEC and a bad OU defense? I'll take TN vs OU. Arnold's first SEC game against that D line of TN's? TN has the better team imo, more talented and big D advantage. I think OU has to score at least 40 to win.
