How good is upgraded Stronghold with 10 weeks of unit growth in Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Horn of the Abyss expansion (Homm3 HotA)? Let's find out!

The faction tested will face six trials:
- Castle Attack
- Battle vs. A Horde
- Battle vs. Elite
- Battle vs. Missile Units
- Battle vs. Army
- Castle Defense
They will score points from these, as well as from abilities in campaign map, construction chain costs and from the army costs. The army is determined by 10 weeks of growth. The tested units will be controlled by human, and tactics can be used.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Stroonghold arguably the second best music, but that’s it. They are my least favorite. With that said, resources are a huge factor for this faction and can increase their numbers fast. I appreciate that showcase. Idk though if army cost should be halved for scoring. It would need to be factored only if you did the growth based off of resources and not just 10 week

Overall a weak town with low defense and speed. Wolfraiders ideally need more hp. A dwarf has twice the hp of wolf with a goblin riding it. Orcs need to be beefier and have no melee penalty. A mage hits just as hard with his staff as shooting missiles from it. And an orc swings an axe for only half the damage of throwing it? Make it make sense. Thunderbirds deserve a 100% chance on the lightning proc. Gorgons in the quanity of over 10 always have Deathstare, which is a stronger ability. Cyclopses are weak and expensive to build.

i like stronghold, get Grag Hack, with high attack and those behes wreck everything. Won many games with that.

What did that AI do? Why move the Medusas out of the wall? And even with that, it was a really messy battle. That's not a criticism of the gameplay either, it was just how it played out. Vs Horde looked annoying to fight, but did result in very few casualties. Nice. And thanks to the Ancient Behemoths, you were able to wipe out the Azure Dragon Stack entirely. Oh wow, that Ranged battle... they really are rather slow, eh? And winning against Army... I mean, Stronghold was always going to win that! Though doing so against a Hero using some spells is good. Pretty good on defense, actually. The Thunderbirds are definitely useful, and I see why they get Ancient Behemoths as they do (and as cheaply too). Their ranged options just aren't particularly good, and the wolf riders are nice but weak. They're not terrible, but I never really liked playing them. Oh! They're cheap! WOW. That score! Their battle results are horrible, but their overall score? Wow. Army cost is probably a bit too weighty for the final results, yeah. I do appreciate the statistics at the end; they're really nice to see.

Thank You for the analysis. I need to further consider that buildings and army cost score - perhaps scale down the weight a bit :)

Great job vs horde and vs Elite! Vs missile though @qualityoldhomm-rd3yu you inspired me to try to improve the results by creating the same template. I managed to kill all missile except 13 titans, here's the video (sorry for quality, it's my 1st video) - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/er2TetKVnNTDlJc.html

See this is an odd result. Without a chart i cant remember but i feel that Stronghold performs worse in the battles, but tops the ranking for its units being cheap. Which is a scenario where unita numbers are fixed irrespective of cost; cheap units are irrelevant and should not significantly contribute to overall score? What good is a cheap unit if you cant buy more?

Thanks for the comment. Yea, in battles they did the worst this far. And yea, that is a thing to consider. What is the balance between unit price and availability. Imo there are cases where either is the one being more of a constraint :)

@@qualityoldhomm-rd3yu what this does show though is how unbalanced the game is. Stronghold being predominantly might should fair best in the battles when magic is excluded as it is supposed to be their fortay. I fear for fortress. They'll be meat for the grinder

My only complaint about Stronghold... They are too slow! (Fastest 11 speed only, just as bad as Tower)

Thanks for the comment. Agreed. Furthermore, their performance in the battles was quite a bit worse than other factions' this far though they are cost efficient :)

In some cases, imo it is easier to defend them that way though ofc they are more vulnerable to lose their ranged attack that way :) Thanks for the comment.

I would only put them together if they had no melee penalty (e.g. mages and titans / or Evil Eyes and Medusas). I don't understand the merits of putting them together if they have a melee penalty, I've never played that style.
