@@mikegalvez2575 Nice! I use RIS (Radeon Image Sharpening) at 900p and it also looks really close to native. With RIS you can run any resolution and it's always on, always working. I've tested RSR vs RIS in-depth and prefer RIS. However, RSR is still pretty good and I'd say use the one you like. Try RIS though if you haven't yet, I have the showcase and tutorial near the end of the video :)

@@volcalstone I use a program called "G-Helper" which lets me set the watts and switch profiles a lot easier. I have a video on it here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y7uAmdaev96wo6c.html. I run 13W / 17W / 25W. Also you can even create more profiles in G-Helper so you can quickly switch between any watts you want. Under the "extra" tab though, you'll want to set the Command center button and ROG button to "------" or "custom" so it doesn't open when pressing them. The program has been updated where it supports the buttons (not shown in the video), so that's why it'll open G-Helper now when pressing them. There are a lot of options though, and running manual in AC also works. It's just a lot louder than "Balanced" at 17W in G-Helper.

For sure. But they can't even fix the deadzone issues reported from day 1, along with a myriad of other issues. Hopes of them adding needed quality of life updates is non-existent at this point.

@@TheDarKris their updates are coming in incredibly slow. Communication is barely existent at this point. And numerous day 1 issues reported and acknowledged still remain with the only word being that they're "investigating" - the same thing they've said since they acknowledged the issues. I love the device when it works but have zero faith in Asus to support it properly now.

Same, it was a struggle between 1080p and 720p. It's really nice to have additional options and 900p like you said with RIS is awesome! Also we have 6, 16:9 resolutions, so you could even go down just slightly more or higher to get in-between 900 and 1080. But just like you found, 900p is the sweet spot. Glad the video helped :)

@@filt3rless Sorry, I spoke too soon. So I ran the file and rebooted, then went straight into FF7 Remake. I found the 1600x900 resolution choice there so I assumed it worked. But when going back to Windows or in another game such as Witcher 3, I only have the 2 original resolutions (720p and 1080p) available as a choice, and other people here and in the Reddit post are saying the same. I'm thinking you have to dock your Ally first and then you'll get access to the other resolutions.

@@Grimlo9ic That's so strange. I originally had run this while in handheld mode without it being docked and it still unlocked all the resolutions. Thank you for the information though. I wish I could "undo" it to test it out, but no matter what I do the resolutions are there, docked, undocked, reboots, etc.

@@filt3rless But you have docked that Ally before, prior to all of this right? My current theory is docking it the first time creates a number of registry entries, which the additional registry file you linked to interacts with, and leads to all those resolutions being available.

Tried a couple of things but still no luck. Will just request for ASUS to officially support this through AC/CC I guess. I'm on: BIOS 323 MCU FW 311 AC 1.3.6.0 And here's what I did: 1. Deleted all of the entries that the registry file makes (so that when the registry file is rerun, it adds them again) 2. Connected my Ally to my monitor through my Steam Deck dock and a DP cable (I don't have any other docks on hand) 3. Fiddled with the display settings a bit (duplicated/extended/showed only on displays 1 and 2, as well as checked out the other resolutions available on both displays) 4. Disconnected my Ally from the dock, reran the registry file, and rebooted

Thanks man :). I wish AC would give us that resolution option, and an option for switching to a set watt, like 17W or 25W, instead of Silent, Performance, Turbo. Having custom buttons for things would be great. I noticed AC doesn't scale to 900p, so maybe that's why we don't have the resolutions, Asus didn't want to have to make AC scale and add the button functionality. I'm not sure though.

No problem man! :). I feel like the Ally is now running as it should. Getting really good visuals and performance while on battery now, which is awesome. Make sure you check out RIS at the end of the video, it's a game changer and I run it on all the time. It makes 900p look like 1080p (maybe even better) with 0 performance hit.

100% it's a great setting. I found in a lot of games 1080p was just a bit too much, then 720p was too low. This is a really good balance :). Also check out RIS at the end, I think 900p with RIS On looks better than native 1080p.

@@howtoby27 Okay, the issue you described actually sounds like what was happening when my reader failed and I had an SD Card Issue. AMD was one of the first things I noticed that would just go white and lock up with the SD Card In. You should try copying a file to that SD card, if your system becomes almost frozen, it's your reader that's going out. If you pop out the SD Card when it feels frozen, it should immediately become responsive again. I'm not saying this is it for sure, I just don't think the registry file is the cause of the issues you're having.

I am planning on doing a watt test to show FPS at all the different watts. I hadn't thought about doing a direct 1080 vs 900 vs 720, that could be an interesting comparison. I'll think about how I could implement it. It'd be a bit hard to due though as each game will be different. I think for battery savings your best bet is setting your watt limit to what you're comfortable using. Then adjusting each games settings/resolutions to get the FPS you want per game. Some games like FPS you'll want a lot higher than something like Diablo 4.

My first thought on it would be to re-install Armoury Crate. It's in the "MyAsus" app, and could be the quickest fix.

I have tested RSR vs RIS more in-depth in a video and i personally prefer RIS. Mainly because it just works at any resolution, including 1080p. Also it's always working when it's on, no matter what resolution you have in game. With RSR, you also run into issues when using windowed full screen games if your desktop isn't at a resolution lower than 1080p. And there is a performance hit using RSR, whereas there is 0 performance hit with RIS. I'd say try doing a comparison with RIS vs RSR, you might be surprised at the difference :)

I think if game have native FSR then use that but if it doesn't RSR not as good and RIS might be better option

@@TRX25EX RIS with FSR actually works really well. RIS is something you can leave on and never need to touch it. Even if you use FSR. I have compared RIS on vs off when using FSR and I much prefer the sharper look with RIS on.

You can just re-install the graphics driver from Asus. Asus now includes 900p in the driver itself so you'll always have 900p with Asus drivers now :)

Hey that's a great idea. 900p with RSR should look and perform well, but I haven't done in-depth graphics/performance tests at 900p using it. I can say that Starfield does not like RSR and has a pretty big performance hit. I'll look into it more and see what kinds of differences there are at 900p with RSR on versus it being off.

I ended up going back to the old firmware. In the reddit post I made, someone shows how to do it. It's definitely a do at your own risk though, as it's not something I can safely say people should do. I did roll back though and my triggers are back to normal :). I tried that, I went into the registry file itself to remove the hex values that corresponded with the other resolutions, and for some reason it still added them all. Then I went into the registry and tried deleting them from there, still didn't take the ones I deleted out of HEX off. When I re-installed the AMD driver it seemed to erase all the resolutions, so if you don't want them and are okay with 720p/1080p you can re-install the driver to remove them. Or I'd assume when we get the new AMD drivers it'll erase it as well (OR AMD might add that feature back in so we can change it in AMD and set custom resolutions). I don't know why AMD or Asus isn't letting us just set custom resolutions in AMD.

You're 100% right, 900p on desktop is only if you run into a weird game that runs windowed / windowed full screen and won't change properly. I don't think there is a way to change it in G-Helper, just have to go to windows settings. Also don't toggle the "720p" option in command center. It'll show 720p even when you're at 900p, if you touch it, it'll bump the system between 1080p/720p. Thanks man :)

@@filt3rless Thanks! oh no worries, I don't use Armory Crate anymore, only G Helper after your last video ;) I just hope that they make it capable to pop up during gaming full screen (still kind of buggy for me) By the way, the MB+Up arrow key doesn't bring up the keyboard because I removed it by mistake back then. @@Jankylulu I re-imaged my system and noticed that the keyboard shortcut hasn't worked at all, even with Asus stuff installed. But I didn't do a cloud restore, I used a USB drive so that could be part of it. I need to cover reWASD as I think you'd like that a lot. I have the G-Helper power modes mapped to a "shift" mode so I can change them without using the Command Center/ROG button. Along with a LOT of other shortcuts, like Alt+tab, mouse/click, volume up/down, brightness up/down, all while in a game not needing to open anything. I'm hoping to cover it soon. From my testing of CRU it doesn't work on the Ally. You can set it to 1Hz - 300Hz and nothing happens, even when capping FPS to 10. I also tested 2 freesync monitors as well as an Asus laptop and it does work on those, I started black screening around 40Hz on the monitors and at 45Hz on the Asus laptop. If CRU was changing the refresh rate, setting it to 300Hz would immediately black screen the device and you'd have to hit F8 to recover.

​@@Drivenby I'm just about positive it doesn't work. I recorded in slow motion 120Hz at 1080p, there is 0 difference. Maybe some Allys are different than others and it works on some, but if they're all using similar displays/hardware, I don't think it's working. An easy test though would be to set the low end Hz at 1, then cap the FPS at 20. If it's not black screening, it's not working.

That is strange. It worked for me. You have to change the resolution in-game. It won't show up in command center. It'll show "720p" in command center, but if you go to the resolutions in game, you should have 1600x900.

@@sharlatandjaul3739Have you ever used a program called CRU (Custom Resolution Utility)? I'm wondering if CRU might have conflicted with the file. If not, I'm not too sure what it could be. I've tested this setup before I re-imaged my device and right after a brand new image and it works without issue. It could even be some weird glitch with Windows. Windows seems to run into really strange issues randomly.

@@sharlatandjaul3739 I think CRU is probably messing with the settings. Also I tested the VRR range in CRU and found it's not actually doing anything. You can even set it to 1hz - 300hz and it does nothing. I thought I saw the difference at first, but then realized it was more placebo effect after hours and hours of testing. I also tested it on my Asus laptop as well as external monitors, and I would immediately get black screens going below 40Hz, and on my Asus Freesync display I could only get to 45Hz. The LFC (Low Framerate Compensation) is why it's still looking good under 48Hz. You might want to "reset-all" in CRU, then click "restart64", then restart your machine and see if the resolutions show up. If they don't, then try running it again. If they still don't then CRU might have conflicted with it. Hope the information helps.

Not a problem :) Also using RIS (Radeon Image Sharpening) at 900p makes the image look amazing. I have that near the end of the video. I think 900p with RIS looks better than 1080p with RIS off. So that's a great way to get a 1080p like image and still get the extra performance of 900p. It's what I always use and it's been working great.

Hey, when you are running 900p it will show "720p" in command center. If you tap on the 720p button, it'll switch it to 1080p and you'll no longer be at 900p. So if you're wanting to run 900p, you'll want to set that resolution in the game, and then leave Command Center alone. You can change back to any of the resolutions you'd like at any time by hitting the button, or I'd recommend setting the game you're currently playing to the resolution you want to use. Hope that helps :)

At the top right you should see a download icon and you'll need to click on that. When you first load the drive it does look like an audio file. Just check up at the top right :)

After running the file you restarted? And you're going into the game itself to change it right? You won't see 900p in Command Center. Command Center will always show 720p/1080p.

Use the download link in his description and then restart the ally. It’ll pop up. U can even do 800p but i think 900p is better

Opps you're right, I completely cut out the graphics settings. I'm running the Medium preset, but I turned MSAA from x2 to x4. It really makes the edges look a bit sharper at MSAA x4.

@@volcalstone I think you'll like RIS. I like 900p with RIS on more than 1080p with it off. Near the end of the video I have a couple comparisons of RIS so you can see the difference. I like RIS more than RSR, and I've been using RIS on my AMD based laptops now for years, it's awesome!

@@volcalstone Definitely give it a shot, you'll probably never want to turn it off. If it's too sharp, I'd go into AMD and lower it down some. But overall it's something I run on at all times on all my Asus devices, including laptops that have AMD chips.

Hey, if you use RSR (Radeon Super Resolution), games that don't run full screen will use your desktop resolutions. So some games, like Diablo 4, won't run RSR if the desktop is at 1080p. If you are using RIS (Radeon Image Sharpening) you can use any resolution you'd like and there is no need to set the desktop to 900p as it works all the time. RSR is where you have to be below the native resolution, 1080p on the Ally, for it to be able to activate. Hope that helps :)

Re-installing the AMD driver from "MyAsus" seemed to have taken them off for me.

I'd try restarting the system first just to make sure it's still not there. If not, you can try uninstalling/re-installing the AMD Driver as it should remove the resolutions. Edit: Also just re-installing Armoury Crate could fix it and is pretty easy to do. Just got to MyAsus and download the Armoury Crate / Aura installer.

@@soulsearch7383 Okay, I'd try just doing Armoury Crate first to see. I've had that happen to me before (without the resolution registry file), and I have no idea what caused it. Not sure if you've used something like Handheld Companion or reWASD, but that could be affecting it.

Hey, because a lot of games don't have FSR. And even something like cyberpunk where we are testing in this video the FPS, 900p is still a big jump in FPS. 900p with RIS is even better as there is 0 performance impact and it looks even sharper. So you'd be better off doing 900p, FSR & RIS. The reason to use 900p is because it's netting an additional 27% or so performance (no matter if FSR is on/off) when compared to 1080p.

Yes, however I can't 100% guarantee anything on the Ally. Even Asus updates have messed up my controls and other things on the device. I trust this more than Asus updates. Hey, I haven't been able to get FreeSync working at all on an external display. I even tried the Steam Dock using Display Port and it still didn't work. I haven't seen anyone get it working either, even the official ROG Ally dock doesn't do FreeSync on my displays.

RSR does upscale the image. So as long as the game was started in 720p, it will upscale to make it look more like 1080p. However 900p with RIS (Radeon Image Sharpening) is FAR better IMO. I even have a video comparing 720p RSR vs 720p RIS, and I personally prefer the look of the RIS image. 720p definitely still looks good and something that's worth using if you like it. I can definitely see a pretty big jump going from 720p to 900p though, and personally I really like 900p. RSR (Radeon Super Resolution) is pretty good, and you can use RIS (Radeon Image Sharpening) which will give you even more performance. Hey, have you used an XG Mobile at all? I heard some of those are targeting the 0021 folder. If you open the regedit file with notepad, you'll see at the very end on the first line it'll show "\0000" at the end. The second file I uploaded had "\0020". It could be worth doing 0021. I can change it and send you the file if you'd like. I currently don't have my windows PC hooked up, but let me know and I can get it hooked up, change the file and upload it :)

@@brandonp1985 Sweet! :). Also if you haven't tried it yet, try turning on RSR. I found at 900p it's looking pretty good.

One thing you could try is making sure that scaling is set to 100%, restart your machine and try again. Sometimes windows scaling can cause weird issues in games. So you'll want to right click the desktop --> display --> change scaling to 100%. The text will be really small but it's worth a shot. Let me know :)

@@filt3rless thanks for reply...it seems the cause was I had the game added to AMD adrenaline software which was forcing RSR , although the RSR toggle was off...I disabled in AMD software and put scaling back to 150, seems to be working ok, will test further with F1 and other games...👍

@@ryanpersuadful That's good to know that RSR caused that. If you liked that extra sharpness, try out RIS (Radeon Image Sharpening). It won't do anything like that, as it just sharpens the image. I'd just make sure you toggle it on without any games open, so it's just on across the board. It's what I use at 900p and I love the results :)

This will not void the warranty, and it helps with FPS. However, if your uncertain about it, it might be better to not do it. I really enjoy using 900p for the extra performance though. I also did a follow up video where you can remove/re-add the driver to revert the changes(kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a9B_ZKlkm7G7f5c.html). But I'd only suggest doing it, if it's something your comfortable with. The Ally is still an amazing device even using 1080p and 720p :)

Hey, the Ally should be able to run that game, however, you'd want it to be docked with a keyboard/mouse. It'd be almost impossible to play on the Ally itself in handheld mode.

Hey, it's a custom built overlay using MSI Afterburner and Riva Tuner. The overlay editor is inside Riva Tuner. Unfortunately I don't have any videos out on how to set it up, and it's a bit complicated to learn. There are a lot of tutorials on KZfaq though that will get you started. And I might make one at some point in the future.

Hey, someone found if you set your desktop scaling to 125% it fixes the Armoury Crate issue. Try that and see if it helps :)

I worked on this for a while and even editing the registry and removing the HEX values for the resolution didn't fix it. So I'm not sure. It's annoying, but I'd sure take it over not having them personally :)

Which program are you using for modifying the watts? I'd suggest restarting one more time while plugged in, then unplug/re-plug the system in and see if that fixes it. This file isn't touching anything with power settings so that is really strange.

@@filt3rless Armory Crate. Restarted two times, plugged and unplugged. Another problem i can see is its consuming 7-8w when in plain desktop, and in games it's not going above or below 14-15w in neither silent nor turbo

@@lightsf9771 One last thing I'd check is click the arrow down at the bottom right and see if there is anything running that is limiting the watts. It could be Handheld Companion, G-Helper, Etc. I'm not sure if you've used or are using any 3rd party programs that can limit watts, but it sounds like something is running. If you've used Handheld Companion and have it installed, I'd start it up and make sure there isn't a watt limit set in it.

@@filt3rless I don't have any of those installed. It started after the registry change. I commented right after. Anyway I'm going to uninstall and reinstall AC and see if it fixes the issue.

@@lightsf9771 Okay, sorry about that messing up. I think there could have been a very weird coincidence because the registry is just adding options in for resolutions. It isn't changing anything on the power side of things. That is really strange. Let me know what you find and I'll try to help out the best I can.
