At 5'10, I'm very impressed by his aerial ability. As you said, he needs to add physicality to his game but if he could he would be a beast. He reminds me of throwback CB, where 5'10 was a passable height and defenders would have exceptional dribbling ability. My question is, if you compare him to a relatively similar CB, Jurrien Timber, who would you say has the higher ceiling?

Tough to say. I need to watch more of Timber before I can make that call... I don’t think Timber as good going forwards but he’s very comfortable in the build up phase and defensively he is more disciplined but is he as good at 1 v 1 defending?

@@mohitnambiar3307 For me a centre back has to be over 6'1" in height, but Koundé and Marquinhos have great stats with a height of less than 6'. Timber and keep an eye on Gvardiol.

It’s interesting to see Maguire’s numbers compared to other CB in Europe, his forward passes per 90min will improve this year with a better coached/better players in the midfield. Great videos :)

Yes this is last chance saloon for Maguire. Can’t help but feel Conte or Tuchel would bring out the best in him. Not sure if he’s a back 4 cb.

Honestly I think he would fit in the team very well if the other CB is very strong ,has a great presence and covers the aerial duels like Aurajo , the have the potential to become a unique dou , but they are young and need some time , and thats were Andreas Christiensen can step up , I absolutely loved how he played against madrid

Nice analysis as always. May I suggest you a content ? Can you do an analysis on both CB at each clubs. For example, Van Dirk & Joel Matip at LFC, compared their contribution categoties on what they do best, so we can see what role are they doing at the club. I would love to see it.

Great Content. Love it. I observed that Henry Maguire is always second in the stats, maybe that's why coaches like him in the end.

It was Maguire's worst season as well last year. Usually he ranks far better statistically. Does put things into context about perspective of fans opinion and how skewed things become when price tag is a key determining factor

imo konate isn't great aerially physical yes but tends to fall asleep on the average long ball france and wolves are examples. great vid your analysis of tactics is insightful.

i feel he fits the profile of a full back more than a centre back, fast , can cross , dribble and move the ball forward and has the instinct of a defender to gaurd the spaces and runs of the attackers , why is he played as a centre back where aerial dominance and physicality is a major criteria?? Btw, i really enjoy your videos and appreciate the effort to curate the video clippings and create the animations for the tactical analysis

No reason why he can’t play as a full back - agreed, just think as a RCB - he has a higher ceiling. At right back, you will no longer have the same element of surprise as a overlapping centre back (no one expects a centre back to drive forward or be so risky on the ball) and that makes him very dangerous. At right back especially in modern game, they’re almost the widest player and suddenly they’re in a lot of 1 v 1 attacking situations and dribbling wise it becomes more of a struggle. That’s why failed wingers become full backs usually because they can’t handle the 1 v 1 demands and this is a centre back being asked to be a full time full back. So yeah he could do it, could he be a world class attacking right back in modern game? A bigger ask.

@@PythagorasinBoots The thing nowadays is that fullbacks are not one dimensional. So even tho i don't think he would be a great attacking right back he would be perfect in the Walker role for Man City where he would form a 3 at the back when in posetion. I think he has all the atributes for it and it covers his deficiences as a tradicional center back. I think him and Timber are very similar but kounde is, of course, way more developed.

Barca want him. Once the financial levers are activated, they will go for him. He seems very promising and Araujo and Kounde would be a magnificent Duo, especially with Kounde's dribbling and Araujo's hieght etc.

@@PythagorasinBoots i think xavi wants to play 3-4-3 formation rather than 4-3-3 in next season because the transfers and players in transfer rumors looks fit to that formation more.. It is also Xavi's favourite formation and as far as i know he played that formation in al-saad too

I think he can become world class in a back 3 at Chelsea. Looking at positions Azpi comes into and the license to go forward I think, just like Rudiger, Tuchel can unlock him. Plus teams are less likely to load up on him given Kante and Reece around him allowing him to get into more dangerous areas. Reece is also amazing defensively so he'll have less to really do. Where he'd really need to improve is his presence as you said but CB take a while to develop that when it's not innate. I expect this kid to be world class one day.

Back 3 shouldn’t be an issue - seems made for it tbh. It will give Chelsea a lot of variations in possession down that side.

Appreciate your work. But, the analysis seems a bit from an EPL viewer or fan's perspective. I think Kounde is more of a modern-day CBs made for an attack-minded team. And this, at the moment, is need of the game. Not to mention that he surely is not a finished article.

Not sure if he has the size or the ball playing ability to be a cb in a back 4 in the premiership. Reckon he’ll still do really well in a back 3 for a chelsea or inter Milan or even at RB for a bigger side not sure about the 60m release clause tho seems too high. Solid player

@@herimen3153 I agree, I've seen majority of the time where araujo stops attacks from the left side when Alba or Pique are too high up on the pitch, they would adapt so well, it doesn't matter if you're right footed if you have great instinct and presence on the pitch.

It’s a tough one tbh... I’d probably end up going Christensen as the sweeper or even Kounde with his pace. Araujo as sweeper doesn’t sit comfortably with me but let’s see what Xavi does.

PL is no longer the long ball/cross it in Premier League of old. If anything it has become far more like La Liga(thanks to the modern coaches lots of whom were inspired by La Liga/Barca) .... I read in the Athletic last April that La Liga had the more chances created from crossing in the top leagues now so he isnt playing in a less challenging league from an aerial perspective. Thats a stereotype that theres more crossing in the PL.... If you read up about Lisandro Martinez coming to Utd youll see articles about less crossing in the PL then other top leagues nowadays. If anything the PL is now one of the less challenging top leagues from an aerial perspective ...which is good.

Tbh defence can't be controlled by just one person alone, Maguire has made many high profile mistakes this season but he isn't to be blamed alone cause the whole defence is a shamble and the midfield is just as shit as the defence...but people don't see the work he does and just laugh at his mistakes rightly so but he isn't so bad of a defender as he is protrayed in the reels and memes just two seasons before he was playing so well and then the Greece incident happened and he lost some form but then got the form back at the eruos and everything just went downhill from there,he is a big reason for United's worst season in like 30 year's but not the only reason
