Paige Bueckers was propped up to become the next FACE of women's basketball …
Her come up in women’s high school basketball was unlike anything we’ve EVER seen before!
She had the entire basketball world talking about her, and people were ready to call her the next WNBA star when she was still in high school…
Fast forward to today, she has had a great run at UCONN and looks to continue to develop and elevate her game. And now with the recent senior class of Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and others heading to the WNBA, it looks like Paige will become the face of women’s college basketball next year…
But how GOOD is Paige Bueckers ACTUALLY?
We’ll dive into the INSANE rise of Paige Bueckers from her high school days, reflect on her INCREDIBLE run at UCONN so far, and discuss how we think she’ll develop at the next level of her basketball career…

Also, a lot of the sensation about the injuries didn't take into account that it's a player responsibility to provide accurate injury history for good preventative care, also players have their own doctors which they have a perfect right to but then conflicts in care arise especially with them maybe training in the offseason with their own basketball trainers not well versed in iso and physiometrics. A good portion of the players injury happened away from the season. Paige had an ankle injury not taken care of prior to her freshman season that contributed to the knee destabilization. I understand they want to play but they also have to be smart, this time though she took the time - she hated it, but it was the best thing.

Being the face of college basketball next year and making a ton of money with the NIL are not the primary reasons for Paige to stay at UCONN for an additional year. Her quest for a National Championship for UCONN oversees any other goal. Why? To some it doesn't make sense. Paige is a 'lifer' and she has endured injuries which may have cost UCONN the chance to win a National Championship while she played there. Next year will give her one more chance to do it and the UCONN roster will be full of outstanding players to support her. In direct answer to your question, YES, she will be the face of college basketball. There are many star players who might compile higher scoring numbers but no one, I repeat, NO ONE can put together a skill package like she can. A lot of what she contributes for a winning team are not on the stat sheet. They have to do with her wonderful personality and her 'team comes first' approach to the way she plays the game. If she feels it is necessary to 'take over a game', she will, but otherwise she would rather share the spotlight with her teammates. And her strength is her faith. She is a kind, caring and loving human being and people who follow her don't just admire her as a player, they also love her. I do.

I haven't seen Caitlin that much but I'm not sold that she's better than Paige. Paige can guard point, wing and even power forwards. I haven't seen CC excel on defense. But they didn't give her challenging assignments, so who knows. I often try to find a comp in the Twentieth Century NBA for players, because I stopped following men's basketball in the Nineties. Caitlin is Magic or Bird (they are practically the same player if you ignore race) a bit more like Bird because of the shooting Paige is MJ, just as much offense and more defense. The spectre of injury haunts PB but otherwise she's the GOAT

Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, and Breanna Stewart are all UConn graduates, so there might be some bias. Clark is an unparalled superstar scorer, a good passer, and clutch player. Pais is a very good scorer, a phenomenal passer and clutch player. However, this year Paige also added better defense (blocking shots) to her game. I think where Paige is better than Clark is her exceptional court vision (she is. point guard), anticipating plays before they even occur. Paige definitely would average more PPG than what has now because she prefers to pass than shoot! Auriemma constantly yells her to shoot more, which is highly unusual.

I think they are equally as good at passing. Paige plays better defense than Caitlin for sure. But Caitlin wasn't needed that much in that capacity, and they needed to keep her out of foul trouble because Iowa couldn't afford her fouling out. If you look at the stats from this past year. As the most publicized player in college she will actually get more attention than as the 2nd or 3rd most publicized rookie in the pros. More publicity equals higher NIL. The salary in the pros is actually quite small, Clark will only be making $78K next year. Then the following year she will likely be the #1 pick in the draft, again the difference in publicity (and advertising income) between #1 and #2 is large. So total she is in fact likely to make more money by staying in school.

Also, saying Paige is going to make more money staying in college next year is also not accurate. Her NIL deals will transfer to endorsement deals once she goes pro. Looking at Paige's NCAA rookie stats, the only average where she beat Caitlin was steals per game, and her points from 3 average. Her season total for assists - *168*, a record at UConn it says here - positively pales besides Caitlin's *214*, as does her *581* points for the season to Caitlin's *799.* (Caitlin only played 1 more game than Paige.) Paige is obviously a fantastic player, and hopefully she'll do fantastically this season. But it's baffling why she seems to have got all the awards for that season when Caitlin's stats are not just better, but significantly better. Injuries really suck for sportspersons. All throughout Emma Raducanu's US Open run people were saying 'If she avoids injuries, she's gonna win multiple slams'. 3 years later, she's just come b ack from 8 months off, 3 operations, recovery and rehabilitation and was ranked 302 in the world. Admittedly she just had 2 good wins last week but that still only sees her about 220. I hope Paige is injury-free from here on.

Please understand how much more difficult it is to play with an entire squad of five star players than how easy it was for Caitlin Clark just playing with average players. It's not like there's any bias towards propping up Uconn and the gatekeeper teams over flyover Iowa. There are so many reasons why Paige is better than Caitlin I put those in my first level comment on this video
@BenjWarrant

@@destinypirate You're just not thinking clearly. If Ms Clark's team mates were so average, and Ms Bueckers were not, Ms Clark couldn't have made twice as many assists as Bueckers and still beaten everyone up until SC. Average team mates would be required to funnel the ball to the star and she would score all the points. That's not what happens. If you're pleading that there was some kind of unfair handling of Iowa rather than UConn, then you have lost your argument. Because now what you're saying is that Bueckers - blond, blue-eyed, tall - is being artificially prejudiced by the NCAA when she's a better player. There's no logic in that at all.

I have been watching paige since she was in high school. and she is an amazing cheerleader for womens basketball not to mention her abilities in shooting, passing and court awarness. My biggest problem with Page and I would bet you its her coaches as well, is that if you piss her off on the court her next play will be her being a dog:.scoring, stealing or blocking a shot but the problem is that she does not seem to have the mentality to start and finish the game in that same "dog" mode. She seems to play at slow to medium speed . if page is to be considered up there with caitlin, cameran and angel she needs to get that fire under her ass from somewhere. and it needs to escalate during the game and be continual and consistant not just when some fan pisses her off by yelling out something. i love watchiing her and rooting for her but i find myself yelling at her to move her ass and get in "dog" mode instead of her seemingly lacksadasical running up and down the court. she took the extra year so its up to her to see what type of player she wants to be, "a dog" or just another good female player not able to put it in 100th gear and fire hewrself up to take over a game. i pray its in her to do or she will never be better than an ok playerwho at times looked great

I'm a huge Bueckers fan. Team obviously is not close to 2024 Final Four without her. But what few have said, after Paige hit a 3 mid-2nd QTR to push UCONN lead over Iowa to 28-16, IMO she had opportunities rest of 2nd to really damage Iowa's chances. Instead, 1 of 3 from field (no 3's) and a turnover, as lead was cut to 32-26 at half. Thanks mainly to Muhl's D (and good team D to support her), Clark shot poorly (7-18 for just 21 pts) & 4 turnovers. But Page also shot poorly (7-17 for 17 pts) & 4 turnovers. Also no steals and only 3 assists. I hope and expect Bueckers to have a great 2024-25 season. Whichever WNBA team drafts her at #1 will be very fortunate.

One of the best players in the game and arguably the best player on the court at the time... and in the last 5 minutes she stayed in the same corner and barely touched the ball. That's crazy! Thought your video was pretty informative and unbiased, until towards the end. 1. NIL deals follow college players to the WNBA. They don't just stop after they graduate. So they don't just earn a WNBA rookie salary. 2. Bird and Taurasi were asked who they'd pick first between Bueckers and Clark, they didn't just randomly bring it up. They gave their opinion as professional athletes, on who they thought was a better pick skill-wise. 3. You (and many others) need to stop with the narrative that the vets are jealous just because they say that going from college to the WNBA is a big jump, and that the W is not as easy as in college. They're speaking from EXPERIENCE, not from a place of jealousy. (They even admit they had troubles adjusting!) They know what skills are necessary for players to compete at the highest level. By assuming whatever they say is because of jealousy, you're diminishing them as professional athletes who have spent YEARS working hard to stay in a competitive league. It says more about your biasness that you can't trust the words of athletes who know their shit, and aren't afraid to stay objective even though they know that will cause them to be harassed by a certain subset of fans.

UConn needs to play more player in every game. No more excuses, Geno! How the hell does Paige, Mika, and Edward’s make the final four with only four freshmen, two not playing much? Portal is open. Besides, Bettencourt and Berry, others that should continue thru the portal is Patterson, DuChamp, Cadence, and Ice Bradly! Why Brady? Geno already decided that he does not want her to shoot her signature shot! I believe Heno has decided not let Qadance play until she can rebound! Qadance will never be Aubrey Griffen. Both Paige and Aubrey are super gifted athletes. That is why they can block shots. Sorry, Qadance wrong team and wrong coach. It is portal time. Consider a transfer to Virginia Tech.

Just got to say - Paige is better....than anyone, ESPECIALLY Caitlin (so totally over rated) Clark. I know this because I can see that she is better. My eyes told me Paige is a better shooter, Better! - Her shot is ''smoother'', never mind the slower lower eind up, it's like butter. Better butter! She is a better passer - she just chooses to pass less, because she is too unselfish, Geno says. She has a higher BB IQ - People don't realize the chess like complexity of choosing which 5 star team mate to pass to. It's not like Caitlin had to deal with THAT much pressure, just pass to any average teammate, easy peasy. Paige is WAY more EFFICIENT, and we all know that smart people talk about efficiency, not cave man stats like points, assists and wins. Paige is more efficient because she only shoots when all of her 5 star team mates help her get really clean open looks (Now why didn't Caitlin think of that? Boom!). Lastly, Defense. Paige is WAY better on defense. While her 5 star team mates smother their assignments she sags off for passing lane opportunites. But get this! Did you hear that the Fever are installing a massage chair at half court? This is for Caitlin because she doesn't play D, she will just hang there until getting the outlet and making an easy 50 foot bounce pass between the 4players running full speed. (This is because Iowa was the last 6 vs 6 state and Caitlin is inspired by past Iowa greats who only played offense. True story.) - This just in! Paige Transfers to the University of Minnesota! Wow, turns out Paige was so bored in UConn, and since Caitlin showed us that people don't REALLY love monopolies that much, Paige realized she could easily just take a team of 3 stars all the way to win the title - which Caitlin couldn't do - but Paige will because she's clearly much better.

You totally missed the point, or were too chicken to say it. The WNBA players, and many GM's, have said PB is better beciase she IS. It's not that complicated. They're both making way more in NIL than WNBA players do and Paige has been doing longer, so if jealousy was the issue, then it would apply to Paige even more. No, what top players do have a problem with is unearned celebrity. CC was the same player this year as before, she just took 4 more 3's a game. The rest of her line is almost identical....and in terms of quality and not volume, it's lesser than Paige's across the board in every major advanced and value stat. 100% of CC's fame came from 2 things that the media knows what they can sell to ignorant casual fans, all for money: points per game ( regardless of how many shots it took her) and logo threes. The latter only counts for 3, she made very few of them, any many players could make it from there but their coaches would bench them. However, It sells. Paige actually finsihed second to CC or won every advanced and value metric that included volume ( with no inclusion of efficiency) and won every O advanced and value metric that was efficiency or per play based, and was top 3 for guards in all D metrics, and was # 1 overall in Total player O rating ( CC #6) and top 10 in Total player D rating( CC in the thousands). Paige also finshed near the top in BPM and way ahead of CC. Players can easily see the skills difference and variety in Paige's game, the fact that she out shoots CC in CC's best thing( 3's) and is in a different world on D, which is literally half the game. CC is a good player that the media decided to annoint and, as per usual, went way overboard in the praise. Any great player who knows what it took to get there is offended by a false narrative, it's insulting.
@BenjWarrant
@BenjWarrant 18 күн бұрын
You quote a lot of metrics, but here's some others. Both played the same number of games. 2023/24 - Bueckers: * 854* points, 34 offensive rebounds, 168 defensive rebounds, 202 rebounds altogether, *150 assists,* 86 steals. 2023/24 - Clark: *1234* points, 17 offensive rebounds, 270 defensive rebounds, 287 rebounds altogether, *346 assists,* 68 steals. That's almost 50% more points, more rebounds, more than twice as many assists, and not many fewer steals on Caitlin's side of the equation. You can waffle about percentages, but THESE are the statistics that win games. Attempting fifteen hundred three pointers and only getting five hundred and fifty of them wins more games than attempting four hundred and getting a hundred and sixty, and the fact that the lower scorer has a better success rate isn't a consolation for anyone.
@cobra7282
@cobra7282 17 күн бұрын
@@BenjWarrant Those aren't metrics, those are basic stats. The issue with basic stats is they don't tell you about the difference in their usage rates or in the pace that their teams play at. If you adjust Paige's stats for the same usage as Caitlin this year you end up with something like 30/7 for Paige, but on more efficiency. If you adjust Paige's usage as a freshman to Caitlin's usage rate this year you end up with 33/9 for Paige as a freshman. Paige just isn't taking 22 shots per game and didn't have the ball in her hands as often.
@BenjWarrant
@BenjWarrant 17 күн бұрын
@@cobra7282 I look forward to your treatise on the difference between 'statistics' and 'metrics'. You don't seem to be able to tear yourself free from being mesmerised by 'efficiency'. I'll say it again: if you are a point guard and you take 1500 shots and make 500 of them, your efficiency is *secondary* to the fact that you scored 500 points. (Hypothetically, 1 shot = 1 point.) If another player only took 500 shots and made 400 of them, the 'inefficient' player has still scored more points. The only time efficiency comes into the picture is when you are comparing a similar metric: i.e . both players scored 500 points but one only took 600 shots and the other needed 1500; or they both took 1,000 shots but one scored 600 and the other only 500. Suppose you had a drag race, and car A wins against car B. No-one's going to give a shit that car B used 23 gallons of fuel against only 16 for Car A, the question is who won? This is the same thing. Answer if you like but I'm quitting this argument now. I want Paige to have the best senior year possible and get a great draft. She seems like a really nice person and her injury was a horrible thing for her to have to cope with. Last thing I want to do is rain on her parade.

@@BenjWarrant When we are talking about the college level, yes I am much more impressed by efficiency than counting stats as the competition isn't that strong at that level. At the WNBA level much higher stats on slightly lower efficiency would be better. You analogy about making 500 of 1500 versus making 400 of 500 shots is incredibly flawed. If you are only shooting 33% I would hope you would take less shots and get the ball to teammates that are likely to shoot a higher percentage. A player making 400 of 500 is much more conducive to winning than a player going 500 of 1500. I know you are being hyperbolic with those numbers, but it makes for a horrific argument on your end.

@@destinypirate I mean, that as good as Paige is as a player, she does not need shills and fanboys pretending she is perfect. On the other hand, I just skimmed through your original comment and concluded there was a real possibility you were satirizing those shills and fanboys rather than being one of them. If that was the case, I apologize.

Jealous? I'd pick Bueckers over Clark with no hesitation. Maybe WNBA players just know what they're talking about.

Sue and Diana don’t do a regular broadcast of the game. That was on ABC. They have guests and pretty much BS thru the game much like the Mannings do with Monday night football. So perfectly appropriate for them to speculate how college players might perform in the WNBA. Before Paige got injured it was pretty much universally accepted she was the best in her class but if anyone still believes that this year that’s somehow a diss of Clarke.

Statistics aside: 1. Paige and Caitlin played on the same US team as high schoolers, talent wise it was known that Paige was the better player and Clark a close second. It was also known that Clark was a slightly more prolific scorer but Paige was all around better. This observation tested true into their freshman years as Paige carried UCONN single handedly to the final four and POY as a freshman. (CC would get her POY eventually...) 2. Multiple reasons why Paige would never outscore CC, playing for Geno, playing for UCONN, Geno's coaching style, and the elephant in the room... CC actually HAD a better supporting cast in IOWA and they were built and played around her talents and were coached as Iowa's offensive strategy!!! UCONN's supporting cast of players actually nullified Paige's talents and hold her back, and Aaliyah also had to get her 20 points. In addition, the team they were supposed to have was never present when Paige was able to play. 3. Also, due to the Strength of Schedule UCONN plays in November/December, their team is often beat up. Truth is, if the team were healthy, Paige would be relegated to averaging about 20 points per game, but would have probably won the National Championship for another 4-peat... 🙂 4. Semantics, in men's BB, people are either Lebron or Michael. Paige or CC depends on what you value for your team. A singular star scoring 60 or a 20 point triple double or championships?

The most ridiculous claim in your post is that Caitlin had a better supporting cast than Paige. Every person who played in the Final Four for Connecticut was either an international player or a five-star recruit out of high school. Caitlin was Iowa's only five-star recruit.

For the record, Jordan was more either/or. He could put up 60 or a 30 point triple double depending on what Chicago needed.
