When a knight puts you in check, you have to move your king to the SAME color square he's already on. That makes the knight have to move twice to check you again.

You got it wrong, when a knight puts you in check, you should move your king to the colored square the knight is NOT on. Because, if the knight is on black square, he can only move to a white square. If a knight puts you in check, and suppose the knight is on white, that means your king is on black. So if you move the king to a white square the knight will be able to move to a black square, and check you. So, what you should do is move your king to the opposite colored square, such that when the white moves to a black square, your king is already on a black square, and the knight can't check you in 1 move.

@@JesterLegend4lifeNo he's got it right. If your king is on white, the knight has to be on a black space to check you. If you move to another white space, the knight can't move from a black space to a black space and check you again.

@@JesterLegend4lifeInteresting conversation that came about because of a misunderstanding of who Bill was referring to when he wrote 'the color "he" is already on'. He probably meant the king but thanks for the clarification for people who might thought aswell he meant the knight. To add something to the conversation, while the general idea is right, the best square to escape to is actually on the same color as the knight is on but diagonally two squares apart, so there's one empty square in between. That makes the knight take three moves to attack you again. Though in some situations you can't go there so the opposite color will still be the better option than the other same color squares.

@@danielj.8876 Yep! I meant the same color the king is on. If you're in check, and your king is on white, move the king to another white square.

And that's why Knights are considered to be the trickiest piece on the board at any point. I've seen and played games where a single well placed knight can blockade entire armies of pieces and pawns all by itself.

It’s because when we play chess, we are usually looking at the “line of sight” threats, like we know how all the pieces attack and our brains can easily process how to block the attack effectively. But with a knight it’s different, it targets up to 8 spots at a time and it’s a positional attack, not line of sight. You can preemptively block a knight from setting up in a spot you don’t want it, but once a knight is already attacking one or more of your pieces, you have to deal with that threat differently than every other piece on the board. Our brains aren’t built for that thinking as easily, you can train it to see it like the pros do but that’s a lifetime of headache.

I would have push the middle Pawn to lure their Knight and King over. Hoping to trade my Pawn for their Knight. Now their King is in the middle. Push any Pawn, when their King goes for it, push the other Pawn because their King is too far to stop it.

ive seen that before, last 3 pawns vs a lone knight but somehow 3 pawns won because one of them is about to Queen, but in Nelson's case, it ended up a stalemate! GGs!

Early on when the black king was out with a white pawn in front of it. The pawn was attacking the black knight. IF you moved the knight, the pawn is now the black king's shield. It isn't going anywhere! I have done that before. Using opponents pawns as my own shield. Until it's removed it's like a big Rock in the middle of the road.

The time control has been one of the most unclear things in chess to me. The obvious scenario when there are still enough pieces on both sides then it's clear. Whoever runs out of time loses. But then there are some scenarios in which that is not the case. For example in this game even though it is theoretical draw you won because you technically have enough material to win the game. But if it was the other way around it would have been a draw since the black can't checkmate you. So I have been wonder about other theoretical draws and how they would be judged in case of timer runs out for one of the players. Like for example: 1) two knights and king vs lone king - obviously you can't force a checkmate but if the defender makes a mistake there is configuration of the pieces in which you can checkmate. So what the outcome would be then? 2) king + different color bishops - again super clear draw but then again it is theoretically possible to win the game if one of the kings is in the corner boxed by opponent's king and his own bishop while attacked by the opponent bishop 3) king + knight or bishop vs king and an edge pawn - we all know that king + bishop/knight vs lone king is theoretically impossible to win thus a draw but the edge pawn can work in favor of the attacker so again checkmate is possible The list can go on and on I think you get the idea. But I wonder is there a place where any kind of these cases (draws) are described what would happen if the timer runs out?

You should try the alien gambit! You trade the knight for that same pawn and there's a bunch of tricky traps you can do after. Look up Witty Alien

Yeah, Kc6, keep the knight away and push the a pawn. Now, would I have found that with less than a minute on the clock against a similar opponent? 50/50 is my bet Two things that help me win, or at least not lose, these endgames in time trouble, are having a simple plan and denying the opponent's counterplay. Viceversa, when you're behind you want to make it messy for the opponent. No victory tastes quite like a dirty flag in a losing position against a higher rated opponent 😏

I don't think so. a4 is more natural to play, but Kc6 does a lot of things at the same time, and one of includes stopping black from moving towards the pawn, so it must be played immediately. a4 can always be played later.
