Yea he didn't really go in depth with the deaths door bit, but he did say that flagellant does do well because of his deaths door benefits when stuff goes wrong, and admitted he couldn't remember the rest of the benefits, but he sees them as more of icing on the cake, not as a general playing strategy. Besides, I see these guides as more of for advanced players anyways so sometimes I'm surprised he goes as in-depth with the characters as he does to begin with

@@lolmanmagee2785 yes and flagellant raises it. The capacity to heal in percentages was huge in the game as it essentially it worked like a camping skill. During the crimson court it meant that health was no longer limited by a strict number (i.e how much your vestal healed.). On top of that, you could use him as a first row healer, somthing which wasn't possible before which increased the max number of feasible party combinations. So not only were you not limited by how much damage you took (provided you were skilled enough) but there was much greater choice in your options. Thats why people ended up using him to fudge so many bosses.

@@Kain-wk6xk im not saying anything about the power level of the character... im saying you r vocabulary is incorrect, saying the flagellant raises the skill celling would mean the flagellant is somehow making the game more complex and thus raising the skill celling (a example of somthing that could raise the skill celling is if for example, removing aim assistance from a first person shooter) what you are describing is more of a inflation of power as the flagellant is a very powerful hero

As a person who always take flagellant to fight, even to cove(xd), yes he does heal party when he hit deaths door, and when he dies, he stun entire enemy team. Always taking item to buff a little Deaths Door resist, making 87%, balancing on thin ice, stacking self heal every 3 rounds to negate possibility of dying from bleed. Second item is always Junia's Head. In battle, you will have like 21343525 dmg per round from bleed you inflicted yourself, and you took from others by "suffer", as i mention before, bleed, or blight will never kill you. Now, we have a monster who heal himself, and one guy in your team per round for nearly 70% of hp. And do it consistently. If everyone in team is at full hp, you can use Exsanguinate, still heal yourself, and do tons of bleed to enemy. OH, THE MOST IMPORTANT: BECOUSE BLEED, YOU DID TO YOURSELF, (remember about reclaim, which negate chances of dying from bleed, you are safe),EVERY ROUND YOU ARE HITTING DEATHS DOOR, AND YOU HEAL ENTIRE PARTY WITH THE SAME HEAL, AS VESTAL PARTY HEAL, OFTEN DOING THAT CRITICALLY, SO YOU HEAL STRESS. I use the Flagellant first as a Tank, secondly as a healer and only as a last resort DD. Because of that I play with Punish, Reclaim, Redeem and Suffer. Heal with Reclaim and Redeem and take Dots with Suffer. My Version of the "Mark for death" teamcomp is called "Sinners Mark" and is an Arbalest, Bountyhunter, Houndmaster, Flagellant (in exactly that Order to protect the BH and keep the stun ability of the HM) team. Strong Dps and still better survivebility than the old Mark for death team with the Occultist and a second stun from the BH in spot 3. Give the Flagellant the Bloodthirst ring for extra live, no food consumtion and less self heal from reedem so you can use it more often, second trinket is the martyrers seal, with even more live (together +25%) more deathblow resist and higher crit on deaths door for an extra strong reedem.

@Zefir Thx for the reply. I see why your playstile works well for you, but I think i stick to my own. @keltkenterbery the main Idea is to have so much hp (48 hp without quirks) thanks to the trinkets that you very rarly hit deaths door. And only if it happens I rely on the deaths door resist buff from marytrs seal. In my first darkest (normal) difficulty run with the DLC I lost one Flagellant despite having one in every boss kill, Crimson Court and Darkest dungeon team.

Worth mentioning is the fact Reclaim can crit heal on every turn DOT. While I don't have the numbers, pretty sure it's the higher single target heal crit chance rather than the lower given how common it occurs for me. Not a gamechanger by any standards, but does add value to it in that if you wish to lower Flag health when stalling with a guardian or something and waste turns, the reclaim offers a chance for stress as well as health if you wish to use it on full health targets.

You must have not used reclaim at all because you don't mention that you can stack it and it can also CRIT on each tick, basically that 3 dot can become a 6 crit or stacked twice it's normal 6 and crit 12 way better then a vestal as you use the heal twice and get way more out of it then if you had a vestal being just a heal bot meaning you take 1-2 rounds to secure a hero from death's door for the next 4 rounds and thus can make use of his exsanguinate and redeem.

I use it mainly in replacement of Suffer when I'm expecting my back row to be hit more than my front row, especially in dungeons with few dots. That way I can take a little of the pressure off my back row while "transfering" damage to my Flagellant to use Exsanguinate or Redeem.

I like endure when I have a jester and a flagellant in the group. Basically this doubles the stress healing effectiveness of the jester in a way. Think about it, when you remove 15 stress from a character with flagellant, it becomes only 8 stress for the flagellant. So in a way these 8 stress points are "worth" almost twice as much as they used to be. And *then* you remove those 8 stress points and then some from the flagellant with your jester. Effectively you are reducing way more stress with the jester when you are reducing it from the flagellant. With this duo then you can stress relieve in a battle vs two crap opponents in the most efficient and fast way possible. So I will use endure instead of suffer in situations where I am likely to get high stress, especially if I have other characters or items to remove bleed and blight when need be. Reclaim can sometimes be useful as well when you not only need to heal a character but also need to actually hurt the flagellant to bring it down to less than 50% health to use the better healing abilities.

Loving your videos. Agree with all your points, just wanted to add my 2cents. The Flagellant’s low health and high stress abilities to me are great for a couple of indirect reasons: - If I’ve got a tough choice to make about who gets stress or hp healing, it adds another factor into the equation which might lead me to heal another char. - If I know we’re coming up to a boss or I’m at a part in a dungeon where I think I’m going to camp, I’ll pull stress from others onto him as it’s cheap and easy to cure it with Solace (I don’t always do this but especially early when I’m not spending much in the way of unlocking character abilities). - If something goes horribly wrong in a fight, he offers an opportunity for a hail mary last ditch effort. It makes the “meta” swing less due to a bad RNG. Just my thoughts 😁

Absolutely agree with these! They're small perks of the class, but not (as many players assume/argue) things you wish to push onto the Flagellant. It's not that the Flagellant is GOOD at high stress or low health, it's that they are better than other characters when they're forced into those positions.

Endure pairs much better with Inspiring Tune than with Cry Havoc imo. Not only does it heal stress, it reduces future stress the target takes which is a stackable buff; so the more you use Tune on the Flagellant, the better Endure's net stress heal becomes. I also like Endure if I'm planning to camp within the next few rooms, because the Flagellant can then take a massive amount of stress off of himself for just 2 respite points.

I also think the no double flagellant party goes with the character background. he heals through self mortifications and de stress. as a pre-vatican II religious character, he would view self suffering as a purification where as group suffering as a kind of twisted pride. Im headed over to red hook today to request a patch buff to the leper along a similar line- I'd like to see the lepers attack target range increase to third rank along with maybe a +5 ACC buff if you run two of them in the front. two lepers, a vestal and a plague doctor party could be named "the colony".

I may be a bit late and I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but the Flagellant's Endure can pair well with the Jester's stress heal as an even faster way to drain stress off one hero (and both characters being bleed heavy makes their pairing even stronger). Think about this: Get the flagellant to low health (30%), then equip the trinket "stone of hearth" + another protection trinket (he doesnt really need any damage trinkets) or acc trinket. He can now infinitly spam his under 50% hp abilities, because he only heals 2 due to his heal debuff from stone of hearth, while having a heal as big as the occultist in addition to a huge bleed etc.

Flagellant perhaps only secondary healer, but combine with other secondary healer, you no longer need Vestal/Occultist. You can put DPS on backline like Arbalest. My best team composition for Flagellant is Arbalest - Houndmaster - Flaggelant - Crusader. With that composition, you have 3-4 secondary healer, make your team hard to kill, 2 stress healer, 2 stun/CC and 4 damage dealer.

I personally think Reclaim is more about getting the Flagellant to that 50% sweet spot more so than the heal it provides. 6 points per turn is pretty massive, allowing the flagellant to hit the redeem for the true heal, and with his low hp and high bleed ticks from using it, you can do 1-2 redeems before those reclaim ticks are over. I personally use Punish, Reclaim, Redeem, and Suffer, using the Flagellant as a primary healer/offhealer who takes place in position 1, while using high damage heroes like bounty hunter/graverobber/musketeer in ranks 2 3 and 4, with an occasional Plague Doctor to stop up the bleeding when you dont want it anymore.

The Flagellant wants that self-inflicted DoT to do more Exanguinate and Redeem when no damage is otherwise coming to it. That's what makes Reclaim worth doing. The heal over time is just a bonus. The heal can also crit sometimes for some reason, also healing stress.

I have a soft-spot for Endure. How many times have you had a fight come to a climax with a hero on 90% stress? The last thing you want (especially if you have camp fires) is an affliction happening just before it ends, especially when you can remove X stress, plop half that amount on the Flagellant and have him -50 stress in camp. I'd only ever take it in Med/Long dungeons where that is an option, or if you have a separate stress healer like the Jester - typically as a 'shuffled to backline but don't see a need to move him to the front' spell, but it comes in handy in other situations such as above. As for Reclaim, I consider that an ability you take if you're insane enough to play a backline Flagellant. You pepper your team with reclaims (harming yourself in the process), allowing you a passive means of opening up Redeem for double heals from the backline (along with stealing enemy DoT's from your team). Obviously this isn't as consistent or reliable as just plopping a Vestel in the mix, but it's the only situation where I feel reclaim is of any use at all.

The Flagellant could be a decent 4/3rd backup healer with the right trinkets. With the Ancestor's Scroll and whatever the hood that increases healing by 33% and lowers Bleed Skill Chance by 15%, he can do some pretty good healing. The general strategy would be to use Reclaim and Suffer to lower his health to a level that lets him use Redeem, which will be the brunt of his healing, and to use Endure whenever you need to heal stress instead of health. This would work especially well with characters with a high base HP, such as the leper, because I believe how the increased healing done works is it takes (these numbers being at maximum Level 5) 43% of the target's max health, then whatever that number is is then increased by 58%. For example, a leper has 63 max HP. 43% of that would be ~27. 58% of that would be 15.66, which added up would be a 43 heal. (Assuming that's how the math works. I doubt it's additive, because that would become a consistent ~108% Redeem heal if the trinkets directly add to the %.) This is definitely not a good strategy for higher difficulties, but I could imagine if you are very low on healers but have an Ancestor's Scroll and Junia's Head available, the Flagellant can do some pretty good overall healing. 4th position Flagellant for healing, 3rd position Jester for supplementary stress healing, bleeds and buffs, and 2 damage dealers/tanks of your choice (preferably Leper, since his high HP works well with Redeem.)

I know this is old but I'm pretty sure that there is certain builds fir flagellant for endure specifaclly gain rapturous is good and bad. Dmg bonus but sometimes attacks party members or hinself as a bonus action. Coupled with the bonus dmg from being at low health with continuing to take damage and dots and keep himself low and stack death blow resist I've never tested it but I'm pretty sure he can get 87% death blow resist with the right trinkets and stacking endure. So easily hitting the cap. Meaning keeping the damage bonus from both the affliction and being at low health and dropping to zero meaning you heal your entire party for 10% everytime. This is a game after all you play how you want. But I am with everyone else. I personally dont think you are using him optimally but you are using him smartly.

I prefer to use both heals for the flag, as well as the stress thing. The HoT is OK, but since it also bleeds the flag you can run down your health for the big heal or exanguinate even if he isn't being hit. Plus it isn't HP based and you can cast it on every turn. Very useful to keep people alive at DD. And lastly, if you buff the bleed resist on the flag with trinkets you rarely trigger the self-bleed, similar to how reducing the bleed chance on the occultist reduces the chance he will bleed the people he heals. If used like this the flag is a powerful healer that can reliably solo heal from the front ranks.

If you ever want to see just how strong the Flagellant is, you should watch Fourtwoflow's videos where he solos bosses, including the Hag AND HER Cauldron FOR 135 TURNS. Hero has amazing resilience, sustainability, mitigates problems from afflictions and deaths door, while dealing consistent moderate damage. Something to note about his healing dot is that it can crit. It can also be scaled up into something decent if you have an arbalest as well. It's too bad that you can only take 4 skills on him.

Endure is worth having 1 level in just as an emergency stress intervention skill. I switch it on when I have a character that is in the danger zone for stress. Even if the flagellant is already in the red zone it is way easier to deal with the flagellant going rapturous than one of your other characters going crazy. Best of all he can remove 50 stress from himself while camping for just two points. He sucks as a primary stress healer, but it is a boon having him there for it in a pinch. His stress heal is more powerful than the jester's which used to set the bar for most stress healed. Yes it comes at a nasty cost, but when the shit hits the fan it is excellent having the option. I really like this class with the exception that it is very picky about being in the first two ranks. It's a bit like the leper in that regard, but the leper is much less mobile and much more restrictive.

Unfortunately as far as I am aware the Reclaim ability's bleed portion can not be resisted in the same way as the occultist's. You may notice the occultist's Wyrd Reconstruction has a bleed chance in its tool tip which is rolled and is affected by trinket modifiers, whereas the flagellant's ability makes no mention of chance. At least as far as I have played it, it seems to apply guaranteed and is mostly a method of lowering the user's health below the 50% HP threshold without relying on enemies targeting him.

if this would be a general guide: a little to less on the death's door proc and deathblow :D So his disclaimer is rly good at start. also losing 2 Flaggs to the first dethsdoor procs he lsot faith in that strat immediatly :D( with maxed deathblow resist). He wants consistency. Rly like the guides :) Some extra shit, for the lazy, from the wiki: - +20% dmg and +3% crit - Heals always 100 Stress in Town -Rapturous: +25% Damage, +3% Crit, and -20 dodge.Can cause the Flagellant to randomly target enemies, other party members, or even himself, among other effects. -Upon 0 health, the Flagellant heals the entire party and reverses Death's Door debuffs, providing +5 Accuracy, +20% Damage, +2 Speed, and +20% Resist to Stun, Blight, Bleed, and Debuffs. If the Flagellant is killed, he will stun all enemies as his last act.

Would Rain of Sorrows be better now that his main attack can only hit the front 2 rows? I usually take it but am curious to hear thoughts now that they've changed the primary ability.
@nowherefool5869

just tweak the speed by using quirks and trinkets. 1st turn = plague doctor (anyone who can cure bleed/blight on others), it's also good for stun/shuffling/DOTs 2nd turn = vestal (party heal) 3rd turn = hellion/bounty hunter/highwayman/etc. (for boss runs)/antiquarian(for loot run. any "loot run" without an antiquarian is NOT a loot run). dmg/dot/buff/debuff/shuffle 4th turn = raw damage dealer/tanks. leper/crusader/man-at-arms (they're already slow anyway so most times they take last turn, so their low speed is actually an asset coz it ensures that plague doctor and vestal can heal and remove dots). they mostly hit first two ranks, but it's also a non-issue since your crowd control "shufflers" already moved enemy back row to front row anyways before these guys even take a turn.

I really like Redeem. It is very easy to resist the bleed with a trinket and you can also use bandages as backup for the bleed. Overall I felt like Suffer was a wasted slot so I didn't really experiment with it.

Personally I really hate Exsanguinate, because if it misses, you do not get the heal, but you still get the debuffs, and it missed almost every time when I tried it, the other below 50% is just so much better since it not only is guaranteed to heal but also tops up another party member as bonus. I use Rain of Sorrows instead which is really nice whenever you can hit two targets with it.

I like endure, but I prefer my Flagellant to be rapturous and in bloodlust, because then he has a slight chance to hit himself (which makes him a more reliable healer) and a slight chance to move forward automatically if he gets shuffled. He'll occasionally hurt or kill other part members, but not as often as it'll bring him in range to heal them, so I think its a net benefit. Reclaim is okay to have sometimes, since its a heal you can always use. It's great if you can stack it, especially if you get traits that let you resist bleeding, but in terms of countering dots, he has a better options, so it gets outclassed IMO. It really shines if you get shuffled, but again I run the Flagellant Rapturous and in Blood Lust.

I tend to use Reclaim instead of Exsanguinate, which only seems like a slightly better Punish. Redeem is way too good not to cast every time flagellant is at 50% hp. Just stack up on hp/prot quirks and trinkets and he's a pretty good tank/bleed-damager/off-healer. Plus, the bleed has a very high chance to get resisted.

Surprising that you couldn't make Endure work. Endure is incredible. Easily the best stress removal skill in the game, considering the Flagellant's guaranteed "Rapturous" affliction is a faux Virtue. In addition, because the flagellant can *only* recover stress in town via Flagellation, one of the most expensive options, having him reach high stress in a dungeon is not a big deal since you gain more gold value out of flagellating in town. If your Flagellant starts racking up too much in stress for longer missions, his -50 Stress camp option for 2 Respite Points easily fixes that.
@steeltrap3800
@steeltrap3800 7 жыл бұрын
Filthy runs large rosters (larger than necessary, really) and virtually never uses stress relief (as he said in video); he lets people recover stress simply by being in town multiple weeks, which the large roster allows. If you save gold as he does by not using stress relief, it makes even less sense to use the most expensive version. Having watched most of his first CC play through, I have to agree with his particular assessment of the skill for the way he plays. Part of the beauty of the game is there are so many potential combos, but I still think his use of the abilities is as efficient as one might hope to have. Cheers

the whole reason why you would use reclaim is to get the flagellant under 50% so you can use his better abilities. I play flagellant as a support tank with reclaim, exanguinate, redeem and suffer. My strat is to take all the DoTs of my team onto my flagellant so ideally i can use the under 50% hp abilities every turn, making the flagellant a huge healer and a tank

Do you know how the Bloodthirst Ring affects the Flagellant's self-heal with things like Exsanguinate and Redeem? Since they're both based on maximum health, and the Bloodthirst Ring both increases maximum health and lowers healing received, I'm not sure if it would cancel out. When I tried it out, it seemed to lower his healing done to himself by a few points, but I haven't managed to record it at every armor (and by extension max HP) level. I'm sure someone could just do the math on it, but I'm too lazy to figure out all the numbers for it. If nothing else, it's well worth the lowered bit of healing, because 1. It still lowers the food he eats, 2. It doesn't affect how much he heals other people for, and 3. Less healing can be a good thing, because it means he can Redeem/Exsanguinate more often.

Actually, bosses with 3 or more actions per turn are strong against bleed and blight. Because of the way DOTs stack in this game, you want to stack more and more DOTs. For example, if you have 4dmg/3rnds and 3dmg/3rnds bleeds, and you apply them at the same time, the boss will take 21 damage. But if the boss has 1 or 2 actions per turn, you can hit him with another bleed a turn later, also refreshing its duration. So, with 2 turn boss your bleeds will do up to 29 damage. Yes, it will be 1 turn slower, but still worth it, especially because strong bleeds can be refreshed with weak bleeds like Houndmaster's.
@FilthyRobot

His over time heal is bad? It's a strong heal that has 3 crit checks (aka stress heal), and it bleeds the Flagellant. 1. This bleed can be blocked 2. The bleed can be healed 3. You want the Flagellant on low hit points so he can do his super skills that heal him back up.

is it weird that in some parties i use an arbalest as a dedicated healer/back-row damage? since her bandage gives a +33% healing received buff, and her own CC trinkets buff that healing while also giving her decent damage and accuracy, i find her quite capable of sniping the back rows off quickly, while sustaining the party with ever-increasing heals while the front rows get whittled away at
