Brandon Jennings was one of the more promising players coming into the league back in 2009, but after a few good years, his NBA career just faded away. What happened? And how good was Brandon Jennings really?

He definitely would have been a multiple time all-star if he didn’t have that major injury! That’s why Steph Curry looks up to him and collaborated with him with Under Armor. He’s definitely a cultural icon. But he was so smooth on the court and so much speed and athleticism. He was a smaller guard so the injury really hindered the way he played the game. All and all he was a dynamic PG and a silky smooth lefty that could cross u up and dunk on you…if not he’d make u touch the ground and hit a step back 😎🫡

I loved Brandon. That said the thing with him is that he was never even at average-level scoring efficiency. In Milwaukee, during his best season, he peaked at 51 TS%, which is about 3% below league average at the time.. While he was very quick and fast, he had a very naturaly skinny frame and even though he could dunk well, he his frame didn't let him absorb contact to finish and he wasn't actually a powerful leaper off one foot. And he didn't have an off hand. This is all why he never shot better than 57% at the rim, and that was on low volume. He usually shot like 49-50% at the rim, which is really bad. All of this meant that he had to rely excessively on his midrange and three-point jumper, but overall, on all of his jumpers - midrange and threes put together - he only shot about 37%. He was basically a LeBron-level shooter, but to take as many of those shots as he takes, you need to be a CP3 or Kyrie-level shooter - meaning, you need to make at least like 45% or more to make it so you can score at even league average efficiency. But all of this meant that there was not a single easily makable shot for Brandon Jennings on the basketball court. The very good to elite scorers are able to make difficult shots at an above average frequency and efficiency. The GOAT scorers are able to get themselves a bunch of easy shots while also being able to make difficult shots. The bad scorers have to rely on a bunch of difficult shots they don't even make at a good frequency. That's where Brandon was.
