He was born or played in the wrong time. If it was another era, he might have been seen as one of the best creative midfielders ever. Sadly, he got caught in a time when players were expected to press and work hard, which wasn't his style. I remember watching him in the 2010 World Cup and being amazed.. he was one of the most exciting young players I'd seen. Playing with CR7 at Madrid made him stand out because defenses had to focus on Ronaldo, giving Ozil space to create chances. At Arsenal, he initially only had Giroud and lacked strong defensive midfield support. When Arsenal got Alexis, he had a good scorer to assist again. It's a shame he didn't get to play with prime RVP for a season I can only imagine what they could have done together. Unfortunately, he didn't contribute much defensively and wasn't as good at carrying the ball as hoped. In my opinion, he was one of the most effective players on the counterattack. He could quickly spot defensive weaknesses and make the right passes almost every time. However, he needed a good scorer to shine..He's also underrated as a scorer on the counterattack, but he'll be remembered best for his final passes....

He was so insane can be measured by that he had 82 assist in just 3 seasons for rm🎯🤍✓ While Luka Modric had 84 assist for rm in 10 seasons 🎯 And German sniper Toni Kroos had 94 assist in 10 seasons 🎯 It took them 10 years to surpass ozil who just played 3 seasons

One small correction. Ozil left Real Madrid not because he got competition from the new signings, it's because he wanted to be a part of the club where he's the main man. With CR7 at his peak, it wasn't possible to be the main man at Real Madrid. So he joined a struggling Arsenal.

Agree I personally could not care less Ozil was not known for scoring loads of goals goal scoring is not what makes me fall in love with a player even though Ozil was not a goal scorer to this day he is one of those players I could watch for hours and hours not get bored dude was a literal artist he was so elegant and graceful on the ball even if youre not a football fan watching him youd immediately fall in love he had that kind of power

I know Ozil wasn't known for scoring loads of goals but if asked me which footballer I could watch for hours and hours and never get tired it would be Ozil dude just has my heart he was more than a footballer he was a literal artist the most elegant graceful player I have ever seen on the pitch if you are new to football and know nothing about the sport Ozil is the first player I'd recommend you watch because watching him will get you hooked he was that exciting to watch
