It was a #1-ranking-caliber year in 2023. She doesn’t catch the imagination of the tennis media (they generally don’t think she’s that great). Objectively she put up elite results, though, the last 2 seasons.

When they measured constantly the shot speeds in USO 2022, Sinner hit 4 mph faster forehand and on the backhand only Thiem was able to hit with the same speed. Her average shot speed was higher than men’s side top20. So when we speak ”hard hitters” in WTA, truly it’s her who hits that spectacular western forehand grip with close to 3000 rpm top spin

Pegula is another Ai Sugiyama or Elena Likhovtesva at best. and that is being generous. Wonder if Iga can do this consistently against a field as strong as when we had the prime Williams sisters, Davenport, Capriati, Henin, Clijsters, Mauresmo, Sharapova, etc. LOL yeah right.

Service is not about aces. It’s well balanced quality and stats of 1st & 2nd serv what really counts. Djokovic doesn’t serv many aces, too.

It is certainly not a good sportting practice to gloat and tout oneself or any player as all-conquering, especially at the beginning of a young career. Fans, players, media and management agencies need to remember the value of being a good sport on and off the field always, win, lose or draw. Mutual respect and good relationships are healthy musts for all.😅

This does not apply to Iga. Iga has been at the highest level for 4 years now and is finally getting the recognition she deserves. What she did is epic, but Iga is a modest and sober person who is aware of her own weaknesses. I just think he's a role model for young people.
