The 'I hate Christmas' monologue is one of the very best parts of the movie. I was raised on the the old tales so they were always scary, or we weren't interested. Gremlins was perfect for kids like us.

My parents bought us the VHS tape in the 90s. We lived paycheck to paycheck in a trailer park at the time so getting any movie was a big deal. But they knew we would love it and they knew it would be our introduction to horror. Love this movie.

This is my favourite "unorthodox Christmas movie" as I like to call it. I love its ghoulish sense of humour and the character of Gizmo is very special to me. I have generalized anxiety and what I love about Gizmo is that he's also an anxious little bean, but he's brave when he needs to be.

Gremlins is such a classic and I remember watching it when it first came out when I was 6 years old,it actually scared the crap out of me 🤣.I'm so happy they haven't done a remake yet,there's just certain movies you have to leave alone and not ruin the legacy.
@ItsaKindOfMagic86
@ItsaKindOfMagic86 10 ай бұрын
if they remake it or reboot it I will just do what I always do, which is ignore the remake/reboot's existence. The classic Gremlins works because it is a product of its time, it has heart, soul and the work that goes into the puppets holds up.

I remember my mom taking me to see this movie. In 84 I must have been in 2nd grade. I don't remember if I got scared, or she did? But when the science teacher gets killed. She grabbed me and we walked out. I also had a stuffed gizmo, and the books with the little records, I think we got them from Hardee's when you got a kids meal. Good times, and nice video review.

My two older brothers took me to see this in the Summer of 84 when I was 7. About the midway point, when the movie started to turn dark, my brothers were afraid that they were going to get in trouble with my Mom for taking me to a "scary movie". I wanted to stay, but they insisted on leaving. We would later see Ghostbusters a couple weeks later, and sitting all the way through it this time, I fell in love with films. When I started First Grade in the fall, I went in with the Gremlins backpack and lunchbox mentioned in this video, as well as a Ghostbusters folder. I had books and a plush Gizmo toy as well. I was fascinated by the film, even if my family was worried about me watching it. I finally got to see it all the way to the end when it debuted on HBO the following year, and I absolutely had no problem with the horror elements of the film.

Us "grunts" at the original New World Pictures knew Joe Dante would eventually work for Spielberg after he made "Piranha". It was fun while it lasted. I was mind blown that this got made and seeing my favorite Gahan Wilson cartoon about Santa in a chimney got reinterpreted. Jerry Goldsmith ROCKS and so does the sequel.

So much about this, even the Christmas setting, made it a perfect Summer movie, but I especially enjoyed Dick Miller. I couldn't explain it but any time I saw Dick Miller on screen he just made me happy. Years later I learned that when my parents were dating they went to see "Bucket Of Blood". Dick Miller is in my DNA.

That kitchen scene may be funny for adults but when I was a kid it was the part that scared me the most, especially the gremlin in the xmas tree. A forever favorite for me. I got a decent Gremlins and Gizmo collection, including a mug, soundtrack, plushies, novelization, christmas tree decor :) The scene of them watching Snow White singing along with the 7 dwarves in the theater made them less scary to me when I was little. Love the second movie too. Those effects hold up, they still look life life to me, their eyes and snarling of their noses, incredible. Love the 1980s sfx, theyre the GOAT.

I love, love, love, Kate's monlogue. As they point out it serves to set the tone of the movie, but I also think it has a double meaning in that no matter how grim and terrible things seem (Gremlins running amok through your town) something far worse can happen. The traumatic event that Kate lays out for us is much more tragic and gut-wrenching than some demon-spawn causing chaos. Hell, they even spoof this moment in the sequel when Kate starts to tell tale of a certain man dressed in... only to have Billy cut her off like, "Kate we, don't have time for one of your stories."

Critics are buzzkills arent they? Gremlins 2 was made for the fans of the first movie. They werent gonna try and pretend to be something unique, it is a sequel, so they just went full throttle bonkers all in on the second one, and I appreciate that and so does my childhood self :)

I think it's about bloody time somebody stood up for Billy; NONE OF IT WAS ACTUALLY HIS FAULT!!! Mr. Wing even points that out at the end! CORY knocked over the water-glass, the BAD gremlins TRICKED Billy into feeding them, and Mr. Peltzer was the one who bought Gizmo in the first place unethically!! Billy tried very hard to do the right thing, and took good care of the mogwai! I know it's not that important, but I just thought somebody should say it already! XD

I think Gizmo being heroic in the ending tones the horror down for children, kinda like it's message is not all creatures are bad. I cant recall what age I was when I first watched it. The film was available to me having been recorded on VHS tape from the television, I was born in 1986 so the film had been out a couple years. To be honest I probably found both Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice scarier when I was little, but I equally love these 3 movies dearly. All are beloved childhood classics.💚

I didn't see Gremlins or Ghost Busters in the theater, but would later see them both on VHS. I read the Gremlins novelization first before seeing the movie. I remember reading Kate's Christmas monologue in the book, and also remember the dad's inventions that were mentioned in the book, but not the film. I liked the movie later when I saw it, and the microwave Gremlin explosion scene actually turned my stomach.

The 3 rules 2 of them no light and no water makes sense. But do not feed them after midnight does not make sense. How will the mogwai knows when it was midnight. Since the Mogwai is from China midnight could be different there. If the rule says don't feed the Mogwai during a full moon that will make sense.
