Really appreciated getting to see this! Just for the record, my personal favorite Gibson pickups are those low impedance pickups that were used in the Les Paul Recording Model...and also the Mini Humbuckers and the P-90s. On my old 1967 ES-335, I have a pair of the Series VII humbucking pickups--I love the versatility of these, plus the single coil switching option. Well done, Gibson! Respectfully, Bill Turner

Seth Lover and Ray Butts were both independently working on a design for a humbucking pickup and Ray Butts got the patent first. Not Seth Lover. Seth Lover is credited as the inventor of the humbucker due to the exposure he got with the Les Paul but Ray Butts got the patent for the humbucking pickup first with his Filtertron pickup before Seth Lover did. If Filtertrons were put in Gibson guitars instead of Gretsch guitars everyone would rightfully credit Ray Butts as the inventor of the humbucker.

I like the attention to detail, but the roughness of a burstbucker style pickup sounds great. I see people on KZfaq that pay attention to whether or not there’s “era correct knobs” on their guitar. In the end, all of that doesn’t matter unless you can play it. Just play the guitar.

Might possibly irritate some people: I own a Gibson Les Paul Custom Vivan Campbell Signature Guitar, #26 out of 50. This guitar is equipped originately with DiMarzio Pckups, a Super 3 at Neck Position, and a Super Distortion at Bridge Position. I replaced both DiMarzio Pickups with Burstbucker Pros, because I like them much more. Lower Output with the Burstbuckers, yes, but much more controllable. Love them Burstbucker Pros, in three of my four Les Paul Guitars (Vivian Campbell Signature, 2014 Les Paul Standard Plus, 2018 Les Paul Standard). The fourth one has a 490r/490t combination in it (2005 Les Paul Studio Platinum Edition).

Sitting here playing my Les Paul standard in deep blood red and wishing Gibson didn't wax pot these pickups, don't get me wrong they sound good and really sound better loud and don't give feed back squeaks but I feel without the wax the would really project the resonant sounds of the wood body ! I want to take the covers off and dig out the wax but it's a lot of work getting the solder got to take the covers off so maybe I'll just find some used BB 2-3 and put them in !?
@ricardoboosten5202

You don't necessarily need to take the covers off. You could heat the pickup to the wax melting temperature in an oven or with a hairdryer. However, some residue will stay in. The covers are soldered with 1 or 2 spots, easily removable. Good luck!

Ford turned itself around in the early 80s by hiring the consultant W. Edwards Deming. I wonder if Gibson did something similar. Deming found that workers shouldn't be treat as mere cogs in the machine. But they developed the problem solving skills that could solve the quality issues they saw in their immediate vicinity. Quality didn't require good management but rather more democracy and trust.
