When I was about 12, I watched Prince of Egypt in theaters. I remember being so moved by the score! I got on the primitive version of the internet, found an address that was supposedly for fan mail to HZ, and penned him a letter of gratitude celebrating the score. About a month later, Hans wrote me back with an autographed pic of himself that we still have proudly mounted in our living room. What a legend!! Thanks for this interview

Incorrect. Hans Zimmer produced the score for The Curse Of The Black Pearl, written by Klaus Badelt. It was a collaborative partnership. The song in the infamous Inception trailer that kickstarted the whole bruuuuuuum sound was actually composed by Zack Hemsey! It's called Mind Heist. Don't know why Zimmer says he's the one who started that trend, though... Bit of a dick move there, or maybe he just doesn't remember idk.

"The sound" was written into the script because like he said, it was a story point. It's basically a very slow version of the first seconds of the Edith Piaf tune. By the time Zack Hemsey composed "Mind Heist" Nolan and Zimmer are deep into the edits of the film and most certainly have experimented with "the sound" and told Zack to implement it for the trailer track.
