I did this , combining it with tournament play like a lot of us did. but that was like 20 years ago. less market, less competition, more regional differences in pricing. as the 2000s progressed I saw that it was becoming unprofitable unless you had like a LGS, or became one of the very big players. In the old days , i could just buy endless collections from random americans and sell them to germans or italians or japanese , making a good profit.

The most time intensive hobby related scheme was a store that I ever saw was breaking of cases Baseball cards. Mind you this was back in 1988 and the store bought about 10K worth of tops baseball cards and they sorted them into individual players and try sell them in stacks of 50.

ah baseball, the only sport where its normal to fall asleep watching the game because 90% of the players only move for about 5% of the game time lmao. laziest sport ever

Hit it on the nose. Used to send it to Card Kingdom until they stopped buying collections with the backlog issues. Went to my LGS a few weeks ago and gave him a bunch of stuff from the past couple years. Value was probably $400 but took $250 because I didn't want it in my house anymore.

I sell cards just because I have a giant collection of shit I don't use after playing the game for 16 years, and I'm the goto whenever people in the area wanna liquidate collections, especially after the only decent hobby store in the area closed last April. I buy decent cards at 70%, and bulk at $2 a pound. Sorting big collections like that calms me, and occasionally I come out big when someone just wants the stuff gone and doesn't go through the bulk.

The ebay scanner is finicky. Has trouble scanning foil and cards that are dark. When does work it does fill everything in. Only thing I wish it did was take a picture.

I started on tcg just Monday and I've already sold 40ish items for about 1k. I think it's fine and a lot faster to get through dozens of cards vs a Facebook group and more profitable than selling to a lgs. Margins seem fine to me

But where are you getting your inventory ? Anyone whos been collecting for a couple years can offload a pile of high value rares from a binder to make some.quick $$ ...doesn't mean it's profit , or sustainable. Are you saying your margins are in the acceptable profit range after buying sealed , opening packs and the. Selling singles ? Or are you just selling stuff from a box in your closet and considering 100% of the take home to be available spending cash for your pocket with no regard to the actual % it reflects from the money spent on the hobby over the years ?

So if you have a store with lots of unsorted bulk, and you can price cards by sight, it takes time but buying them at 33 cents and selling them for a few dollars on buy list is fairly lucrative. Hard to find all of these circumstances though.

A friend of mine gave me a mint condition Gaea's Cradle, and I don't know if it would be better to sell it now. Or wait and sell it at a higher price, most places I've looked say I could fetch 600$ to 900$ for it. But is its worth going down right now? Or up?

I was talking to a Door Dash KZfaqr the other day, he bought a $300 course on how to set up a drop shipping business. I tried to telling him as politely as possible that he got had and that ship had long sailed away. Selling online is not like it used to be, I have not used my Ebay account in over a year and I have a closet full of miniatures I really should sell off. I personally am still doing the delivery hustle since it actually still pays fairly well in Las Vegas.

I’ve honestly not had any real issue but Ive put the effort into becoming known as a buyer on multiple facebook pages. It takes a couple years but its easy and very hassle free. Most people wanna jump in fast and expect a solid return but why sell to some rando when you can sell/buy from a well-known and tusted source. My tcg store now does about 20k a month and on the pages/in store sales Im doing about 15k more. Seems like a decent plan to make some cash as long as you’re prepared to do the ground work

There’s no money in for the average person in any collection games. WOTC is just help me learn that now cards I think that are valuable are $0.20 mythic rare Hilo foil collectors edition cards in my marketplaces. Pokémon is way better for this then magic cards hell new baseball cards are worth more then collecting magic cards for the secret lair cards that you don’t make money on. WOTC is trying to force you to buy the collectors edition stuff so you can do that

only way to actually make money with mtg is to either be WOTC , be born wealthy and never have to cover your cost of living, or start robbing people and selling the stolen goods lmao. just like crypto, it has no practical value or utility. the only things you can ever actually just make money from are necessities and mostly the consumables. otherwise you just have to already be well off aka have lots of money already or you will be perpetually stuck making less than the cost of living due to eurocentric cultures norm of being anti social mobility and pro consolidation/nepotism
