Thank you for the book suggestions. Have downloaded Stephen Charnock’s book based on MacArthur’s story about this great influence in his life.

The puritans showed me more of God and fired up my heart to fall in love with the LORD and His precious word. I can see in so many of the puritans the love of God. I knew more of God by their writings. I give God much thanks for them and all their sermons that I find on line. God so used the puritans to shape me in the image of Christ my Lord!! John Piper made me laugh with the 66 story 😂 I just love the doctrine of the providence of God and how Piper we called by God to ministery 😅🙏😇😍👍💕😁..

It's sad to hear that John Piper and John MacArthur sometimes prioritize the teachings of the Puritans over their personal connection with God and direct engagement with Scripture. While learning from historical figures is valuable, it's important to remember that our own relationship with God and direct reading of the Bible should be the main source of transformation and growth. Personal connection with God and active engagement with the Scriptures lead to true understanding and transformation. It's essential for their ministry to emphasize this personal spiritual growth rather than elevating any person's teachings above the direct relationship with God. Engaging with the Bible under the guidance of the Holy Spirit should undoubtedly lead to a profound transformation of one's life. It's disheartening to observe instances where the focus shifts from the essence of this spiritual journey to the veneration of particular doctrines or figures, such as Puritanism, Calvinism, and even the undue exaltation of Jonathan Edwards by John Piper. While Jonathan Edwards rightfully deserves recognition for his contributions as an influential American revivalist preacher, philosopher, and Congregationalist theologian, it's crucial to remember that the primary objective of reading the Bible is to foster a deeper intimacy with God. The true motivation that should drive individuals like John Piper is the sincere desire to cultivate this intimate connection with the Divine through the act of reading scripture. This connection, in turn, opens the door to divine revelation, inspiration, and personal growth. It's a cause for concern when the focus shifts away from God and becomes fixated on the idolization of historical figures or specific theological frameworks, such as Puritanism. Rather than allowing these elements to overshadow the genuine purpose of the spiritual journey, we should strive to keep our hearts and minds centered on the pursuit of a deeper, more personal relationship with God through the transformative power of engaging with His word.

Idolazation of historic figures is wrong, no question. But search to learn from the teachings of thrustworty masters of the word is a very wise means to learn the Bible, and shoul be normal practice of being biblical christians. Most of us are average, not gifted as John Calvin. I must and I want to learn from such means of grace. It is a matter of being humble and submit to God's way to build HIS church. It is not democracy. It is theocracy. Test the spirits.
