To all people commenting that a generation is 18 or 25 or any other number of years: you may be right from a demographic point of view i.e. reproductive age etc. But from a sports point of view, people nowadays usually have something like 10 years max in their prime. Plus a few years coming up and a few more going out. This is why a *sports* generation is something like 10-15 years, max.

It was also a lot more true in the past for chess, the game changed slower because the speed of communication. Future generations will probably be shorter.

Usually we differentiate between family generation (20-25 years) and social generation (15 years: gen X, millennial, gen Z, etc) but in common conversation nowadays the meaning of "generation" is more about Social generation. Even for marketing analysis if we speak about generation we mean social generation and Is usualy max 10 years. 25 years in nowadays is almost 3 generations, or like a friend of mine likes to say: "you are the same generation if you played with the same pokemon cards type"

Coz generations aren't decided while they appear, but when you start to notice a common denominator.
@vincentvdw3990
@vincentvdw3990 7 ай бұрын
Sure they make sense. it's to describe a group of people living around the same time. Also, you're not a millennial. The term was first used in 1991 for the people born between the early 1980's an late 90's. So if you were 13 at that time then you were born in 1978. Or you just don't know what you're talking about.
@PeteQuad

They just mean the group that came up the ranks together. Yeah the whole generation naming thing is stupid though. It's only a new phenomenon because of the marketing people, and they don't apply to non Americans anyway.
