Great demonstration of showing how to check pressure switches and its operation. The biggest tip was that not all pressure switches have schrader valves which is a great safety tip for beginner techs to remember.

Late to the party because I'm on call this week and was pretty busy yesterday. It was interesting that you could hear an audible click when those pressure switches opened and closed, however you would never hear it with the compressor or the fan running. Good stuff Craig!

Thank you so much for this video. Never learned that much in training or working in the field. Having a trouble with a fairly new Trane heat pump. Something I have never heard of or seen before. The contactor had an intermittent problem which after two visits got to see first hand. Customer was complaining about a grinding noise (always a red flag) so I came and checked but found nothing wrong and pressures good. Only oddity was a fried lizard on top of the capacitor. The cap checked out OK. About 2 weeks later unit wasn't working. Cap still good but unit wouldn't work. Standing pressure was over 200psi. I pushed contactor in and ran fine. When I released it stuck just slightly as I moved my hand away. Didn't give that much thought and went to attic to check safeties there. All was fine. Back to HP. When I went back outside the unit came on. As I was watching the gauges the contactor started to spark and arc bouncing in and out making the grinding noise the customer had mentioned and was really scary! I pulled the disconnect and replaced the contactor but again the unit would not come on. I thought maybe compressor went out on thermal. Only thing I could find was the low voltage was being stopped by the high pressure or high temperature switch. Now I need to figure out which one and replace it. I am guessing it fried when the contactor arced but not sure. Watched this to see if I could learn more about these switches and how to test them. THANKS!

@@acservicetechchannel never seen where they wired the high pressure and high temperature in line together. I was able to pull the connection to it and put it on the contactor for now to get them cooling. Guess I am going to have to replace both but it looks like pressure switch is welded in .... ARGH

The Lennox unit I just repaired at my home has a pressure switch with a reset button on it. The outdoor unit would not power on at all. I pushed the button on the High Pressure Switch and the unit started running again. I felt a distinct click when I pushed the button which you can not feel in subsequent pushing.

Hi, My condenser isn’t turning on due to refrigerant leak and 24 volts are shut off not getting to the contactor. Since the condenser is not turning on, how do I pump the refrigerant into the system to increase the pressure order to run again? Can i still pump the refrigerant when condenser unit is off? please help thanks 🙏
@KSWKREW

Please do not try to add refrigerant into a system without being properly trained first . Not only can you possibly harm yourself or the equipment, it’s against USA federal law for anyone not EPA certified to buy and handle refrigerants.

Great video sir 👍.. I have 1 question. In case of gas shortage due to gas leakage occurs. Low pressure switch will disconnect the electrical circuit and the compressor will be off. So, what is the procedure to fill the refrigerant gas to the outdoor unit? .. So the compressor can turn on again after we fill refrigerant..

Bypass first the pressure switch. To run the compressor to fill up gas into the system.

Hi guys. GREAT channel. Had a fault code showing 02 (high pressure switch) and replaced with exact same. Still showing 02? Is there a reset somewhere on the board that I can't find? The compressor & fan work fine ONCE I get the blower motor working. It trys to start 3 short times, then waits. The last time I got it running the speed was sporatic until it stopped? Replaced the capacitor with same a while back & cleaned the blower fan cage. I just have an Etek 10709 multimeter - probably need a new eh? System is an All-in-one outside Q7RE - 042K. Any ideas will be a Christmas present 🎅. Thanks

I have a 2013 RUUD 3.5 ton heatpump, Model #13PJL36A01 with 410a and a 63 ft. lineset. Yesterday it shut off after running 1 minute and 45 seconds. Liquid pressure stays at 175psi the whole time and vapor pressure started at about 50psi and immediately when unit came on the vapor side pulled into a vacuum. LED 1 is on but LED 2 flashes which states low pressure switch open. What are my possible causes? Been running great, filters clean as well as outdoor unit. Indoor unit has TXV at 2 o'clock position as called for in manual.

You wouldn't get 24v on each side of the pressure switch, only on one side. Put the multimeter probe on a common and the other probe on one side, then move the one probe from the one side to the other side to check for 24v on each side, thanks!
