You can read books, read plays, read screenplays, etc. You can also attend online acting classes. There are many of those nowadays

@@legofr3ak359 unfortunately, I don't know of any free classes. There are plenty of free KZfaq videos, but if you want a class where you actually participate, then those will usually require payment.

That is simultaneously the scariest part and the most exciting part of this industry. It's completely unpredictable and there are no guarantees. You just have to take that leap of faith and see what happens in the future.

I would recommend doing the same thing because that's what got you the callback. However, be prepared to be asked to show something different

Congrats on your commercial with Shaq, I was excited to see it. I'm in Columbus, OH and my talent agency recently closed down after 35 years due to the pandemic. I have a couple of film and stage projects in the pipeline, however what advice would you give in such as situation?

I don't know which agency shut down but there are other great agencies in Columbus that are definitely still operating. Heyman Talent and Helen Wells Agency are two that I've worked with.

Have you ever done Mocap performance or provided voice work for like a video game or animated film? I also know that this is another field of acting that actors can take up if theatre or let’s say film or television doesn’t work out. I wouldn’t mind doing motion capture or providing the voice for a character in a video game or animated film. I’ve heard it can be an ideal career for actors !

Tough for me to answer this question because I don't audition for a lot of commercials. Some of my friends audition for many more commercials than I do. I feel like I've only gone on a handful of national union commercials per year. But some people I know probably go on 5 to 10 times that amount

Nice!! First refusal?? We call it “holds” here in toronto. I’ve been on 7 holds this year an ls released on 5, booked 1 and still waiting to be booked this Monday.

Yeah, we have many terms. First Right of Refusal, On Hold, Pinned, Watch and Advise. They all pretty much mean the same thing. Congrats on the booking! Fingers crossed on the last one.

My best advice is don't TRY to stand out. When people try to stand out they lose sight of the work. Focus on the work. Focus on your character. What is her objective, her obstacle, her motivations, and her relationships. Make strong and specific choices. If you've downloaded my audition cheat sheet, use that as a guide to prepare for your audition.

Cool story! You probably already know this but Shaq is also a reserve police officer. Wonder if he has a specially designed fire-arm for those massive hands. Maybe something like the 'Auto 9' from 'Robobcop' Can you imagine being a criminal on the run and seeing Shaq in full uniform bearing down on you!?

You should ALWAYS have a reader. If you can't get someone in person, you can get a virtual reader via facetime or Zoom. It is not acceptable to do an audition without someone saying the other lines

Depends on the role. For some roles they would help you. For others, if you can take the piercings out and the tats are easily covered up by clothing or makeup, then it makes no difference

@@ActingCareerCenter interesting and sorry for the late reply. I have my entire torso inked up and I was thinking about getting a sleeve tattoo for both my left and right arm completely. But before I did that I wanted to make sure that my tattoos wouldn’t interfere with getting work as an actor in the future. I would hate to be turned away because of them lol. I tried doing research on my own regarding this but I couldn’t really find any valid answers that I could think I could trust . So to be on the safe side I have decided that I was going to wait until I made it first than resume my tattoo collection 😂

The vast majority of actors will have a second or third job while pursuing their acting career. Acting income is unpredictable and most people will need another, steadier, source of income.

Since this particular audition was 100% improv, I didn't really prepare too much because there were no lines to memorize. In many auditions like this, they just want to see your personality come across on camera. I made sure to bring positive energy to everything I was talking about (very important with commercials).
