Hi Derrick, thanks a lot for this tutorial. Please provide us with the full tutorial, you have a very nice way of explaining concepts. Quick question, I am approaching this problem from the context of a decentralised supply chain, whereby the triggered purchase orders go to different suppliers of the raw materials, in different locations. How would you implement a scheduling system for such a multi-supplier environment? The goal is achieving on-demand-production by learning an optimal allocation and acceptance strategy for the generated purchase orders based on whether they (suppliers) can fulfil the orders or not. My first guess would be through reinforcement learning, any tips?

Not just "Leave a like on the video", I would have left "Love on the video". Excellent summary, I would love to get this done for my project and explore Sagemaker. I did use MS low code ML tools but found that FB's Neural Prophet and AWS Sagemaker to be more efficient and effective in predicting outcomes (I might be wrong but am learning everyday).

Granularity is the difference between scheduling and planning. Scheduling would answer the question when and how much to order with the required lead-time. Planning would approximate the price volume for negotiations with the vendor. As you noted it would be better to project raw material and component purchasing based on the manufacturing schedule. The manufacturing schedule should be based on demand (both customer orders and forecasts). Forecasts are necessary when lead-times for raw materials/components plus manufacturing time exceeds acceptable customer order expectations. I have used python to finite schedule the production schedule. It accounts for the production rate, setup time, cleanup time, production sequence, shift schedules. The granularity is to the minute. I would suggest using your method of historical data analysis to determining best safety stock inventory level and forecasting product sales especially to account for seasonality.

Man! I've been searching for this!! This is amazing. But one question. We are talking about differents parts for single date. But will DeepAR be able to solve something like this? I have units sold data for 1000 SKUs for 2 years across 1000 stores. Will I be able to forecast sales of units for any SKU across any store? Your input would be much appreciated. Thanks
@CodeWithDerrick
@CodeWithDerrick 4 жыл бұрын
Tough question! Hard for me to say too much, as how good the algorithm will be depends almost entirely on how good your data is. If you're recording everything that leads to a sale, along with the sales amount, then a DeepAR algorithm will probably be able to figure it out pretty quickly. With just the units sold data, it'll probably do pretty well. But I wouldn't make any expensive decisions from it or anything. Happy to help more if you want!

Welcome! I haven't taken any courses in regards to machine learning but have worked a little with AWS like in this video, and also some in the Python package "TensorFlow". TensorFlow is open source and free so it's a great starting point, then once you need more (depending on what you're doing) AWS is a great next stepping stone. They have a lot of example use cases as well in their GitHub repository: github.com/awslabs/amazon-sagemaker-examples

Am I understand correctly. For example I have a data for 2018 and 2019. I need created a prediction model for 2019 of 2018 data, before I'm going to predict 2020? PS: I need to be sure that 2019 predicted data is accurate and very similar from 2018 year data.
@CodeWithDerrick
@CodeWithDerrick 4 жыл бұрын
Sure! this is part of the machine learning process. You split your data in three different sets (train, test, validate) & once you get the error % low enough, you would then use that model to predict 2020.

you shouldnt forecast components! You forecast finished goods, run the master production schedule and from there you cascate down to components what your needs are via MRP. What you‘ve did is basically useless, no one in supply chain would ever have done it. Makes no sense.
