Interesting to hear about your career path! Can you explain what made you feel that engineering is not for you?
@ArnoldHoTC3 жыл бұрын
There are so many reasons for it that its enough to make another video on. I think the short answer is that Uni has killed my passion for it.

Hey man, how would you say the work-life balance and overall workload of an actuary is compared to an Imperial degree?

what is your strategy for preparing for exams ?

What do you mean by 'do your homework' when it comes to applying for Actuarial graduate roles in the UK? Asking as someone who's currently doing so :)
@ArnoldHoTC3 жыл бұрын
Hey Daniel :) That's a good question. I think the things that I would do are to understand what an Actuary is and also more importantly the basics of how insurance/pension works. You can find loads of resources out there on the internet. Secondly if you didn't study an Actuarial science degree or something related (e.g. finance, economics etc), then you should try to find a justification of why you want to move into an actuarial position. Know your 'why' well so that you don't get thrown off during an interview.

@@ArnoldHoTC great, thanks for the reply :) luckily I studied an Actuarial Science degree so I should have most of that covered

Just found your channel and love your videos! I am about to start applying to uni but am already thinking about having a job in finance and specifically as an actuary - do you any tips for maximising my chances to land a job as an actuary/any things you would have done differently if you knew you were going to be an actuary?
@ArnoldHoTC3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment ❤️❤️ and good luck to your uni application :) The first thing that I will do differently if I get a second chance in Uni is to apply to an actuarial degree! If you are in an accredited actuarial degree and provided that you pass all your exams in uni. You will automatically be exempted from 7 of the core exams!! If you have to take them while working, it might take you 3 extra years doing those exams while having a job at the same time. Some of these exams are quite intense and so having full focus in doing them while at uni is going to be a great advantage. That being said I would also encourage you to explore different options in uni. Hopefully by the time you start your first year covid would have ended and there will be uni life again. I would join clubs and societies that spark my interest. Doesn’t have to be career related. But this is the only 3 years in life where you can literally figure out what you want to do with life. Don’t fixate too much on the grades and miss out on the uni life. Learn how to balance studying and social life. Apply to spring weeks and summer internship early in first year will give you a few holidays and two summers to test out different career paths to figure out what you actually want to do. You might realise you actually really like consulting/insurance or you might realise you hate it. But if you didn’t apply for internship you will have to figure it out the hard way (while you are in a full time role) Good luck!!!!

Easiest way is degree apprenticeship or apprenticeship with firm. Fastest path is BSc Actuarial give you exemptions CT1-9. MSc in Actuarial gives you exemptions in later exams. Means you have only few exams left. Otherwise apprenticeship where company pay for exams and take you on with no degree. You pass the exams and get experience so by time graduates join you be nearly qualified. CT1-9 take about 2 years give or take.
