When I get a new boar brush I agitate it in my bowl with a stronger scented soap. I rinse the brush and repeat. Probably around twenty times. Then I put in a cup of water probably around filled to half up brush. Then I put in the refrigerator for 3 days. Then take it out and rub it back and forth on a towel to split the tips. My bore brushes are very soft. And put out a lot of lather.

I absolutely love breaking in boar brushes. Something so relaxing about it. Nice to see how the brush changes with use.

It’s like watching a plant or flower mature in the garden. Wonderful process!

Very good look at the process; having said that, over the past fee years, I've had a few boar brushed. Omega and Semogue. I have found the best way to "break in" a boar brush is to simply use it. The hairs will split, the feel will get softer, and the brush will mature nicely. I may be an old farm boy, but have never had an odor problem with a brush. Thanks for showing how to start a brush!

Hi Henry. This was a good video and I do like the idea of using a brush cleaning product. That seems like a really good idea! I've not managed to break in a brush using that refrigeration method. All the best.

Very timely. Moar Boar is staring at me judgmentally - waiting for me to do something with it. Thanks!

Great tutorial. I Love boars. I think they are underrated. Might like them the best currently. I have a few. If they are new I follow a similar process. If they stank like Omega I will get a stronger smelling soap and let it sit overnight, rinse, strop etc until the smell is mostly out. Takes 1-3 cycles. I like using as soon as I can to experience the break in (and save time). Later.

Very sensible break in process. I have not used brush cleaner but have used ... shaving soap ... to clean a well-soaked brush before use. In the case of the MOAR BOAR, I just plan to Raw Hog it since it is a Zenith.

I have no issue with the people that say, “Why are you cleaning a knot that you use to lather up shaving soap?”

I use a hair brush or a comb to break them in.
