I've been natural for over 5 years... I accidentally overloaded my hair with protein and it literally locked like dreads and broke off. My hair is gone! Now I'm on a natural healthy hair journey... Here we go!

I’m low porosity and have to be careful with protein as well. I’m sure it has to do with our cuticles not being that open. And protein fills it and just blocks moisture from being able to penetrate . Oils and protein can be iffy. More so protein. Oils don’t cause issue as long as you always apply oil on already moisturized hair. And moisture involves water. If I were you I would’ve soaked my hair in a mixture of slippery conditioner and olive oil. Let it sit for 30-50 minutes with heat then slowly detangled with my fingers first then used a tangle teaser gently. My hair LOVES tangling on itself and I’m a lazy natural who used to have long hair so I’m familiar with locked up matted low porosity hair. I’m so sorry this happened to you!
@ahavah46703 жыл бұрын
I’ve had the protein overload before too. The only thing that works is to shampoo it out. Use a clarifying shampoo. You can’t condition it out, you have to shampoo it out, and then use a deep nonprotein conditioner to return it back to normal. It’s the only thing that can un-harden your hair. I’m sooo sorry you had to go through that. I pray your length is on its way back.

Anyhoo fast forward a couple of weeks and I keep noticing hair on the bathroom floor and it breaking off so bad that when I went outside the wind , yes the wind would blow my hair onto every one in my area. The treatment broke my hair shaft until the middle of my head only had 2 inches left. I too cried and cried. I understand that it’s only hair. But it’s my hair. I’m a low porosity girl as well. How often per week did you use it ? I plan to do a fenugreek powder hair Mask once a week. Is it Bad ?
@cutenobi3 жыл бұрын
Armelle Kouassi I used it once per week which was too much for my hair. Fenugreek did add fullness and strengthened my hair. But from that experience, I learned that my hair doesn’t need a lot of protein. I should’ve used it once every 3 months. Too much of a good thing can be bad. I was too focused on listening to other’s routines and wanting to quickly get longer hair. Now, I’m just happy to have some hair in my head. If you use it, determine if your hair likes protein and take it slow. Analyze your regimen to determine if you are already getting enough protein. Everyone’s hair is different. A lot of people can handle using fenugreek several times per week. I used an 1/8 tsp of fenugreek in my Prepoo. I thought I was being safe, but I just used it too frequently. I’m happy to share anymore information, if you have any further questions.

Apple cider vinegar omg I wish I seen this sooner, that stupid rice water messed my hair up and I was able to salvage it. Awwwe I’m so sorry. If anyone needs help with getting rid of protein overload I’ll upload a video. I prayed so much about my hair thank you God for my hair and repairing it ! Y’all prayer works !

I would love a video on this. I think i’m dealing with this now. Did rice water all summer. And Henna treatment. And now its breaking/shedding left and right. Trying to save it.

Yep, ACV is my favorite detangler. I use it every wash and every cowash. I can detangle my whole head in 15-20 minutes with it.
@beautyslaysthebeast8703 жыл бұрын
@@LindsayAmelia I will upload a video this weekend. For now look at all your products and if you see hydrolyzed wheat , keratin, anything like that is protein so do not do a deep conditioning. Get clarifying shampoo and apple cider vinegar and then put shea butter on your hair and don’t braid it or add tension just put it in a high ponytail

I literally scrolled through these messages seeing if anyone knew about ACV...and ABSOLUTELY...I used ACV on my daughter when she would get braids or sew-ins and her hair starts dreading. I do ACV life once every three months. ACV is the absolute best detangler!

Some of the makers of these shampoos and other hair products should be tried for treason! My hair broke off so bad because of my use of Mizani's Chelating Shampoo. I big chopped to about an inch. I'm still not over it. lol
@mariajones91023 жыл бұрын
Do you have a relaxer?Chelating shampoo is used to neutralize and remove calcium deposits in the hair after rinsing out relaxers. It shouldn’t be used as a regular shampoo.
@aleecewhite39193 жыл бұрын
Me and Mizani are not friends!!
@TheAnonyy3 жыл бұрын
Mizani's chelating shampoo is for removing the calcium build up that no lye relaxers deposit on the hair. And also is the neutraliser for their relaxers. You can use them in between relaxers. Maybe you didn't wash it out throughly enough as it's just a shampoo it should not break off your hair.
@trawlins3963 жыл бұрын
@@TheAnonyy a cosmetologist told me that chelating shampoo can be used by anyone especially if they live in an area w hard water. Because it removes mineral build up. Not often though.

First you are gorgeous. Thank you so much for sharing this. I wish you the best and can't wait to see your next videos! I always believe it's best to know your porosity not hair type in order to have healthy hair. The greenhouse method or baggymethod will help you grow your hair back fast and keep it moisturized. Just don't do it too often.

I really really enjoyed your video, especially your honesty and your sense of humor in spite of this situation. I have low porosity hair too and my hair hates protein and anything with alcohol in it. We cannot put everything on our hair. I am so sorry that happened to you. aaaawe. but you are still beautiful clearly from the inside, so that makes you radiate with our without hair queen. I was almost in tears. oooooh I am so so mad, and pray your hair will grow back fast and long.

I am rebounding from a similar situation. Tailbone length hair, but mine was relaxed. Decided to join the natural movement with an expert stylist and my hair broke down to 5 inches IN THREE MONTHS! It was like broom straw and repelled ALL attempts at moisturization (I had no clue about 'low porosity'). I keep looking at pics of the beautiful silky hair I once had and shake my head in disbelief. My stylist is certified expert. If this happened to me under her expertise, you def shouldn't feel bad that you were struggling to get it together! My last relaxer was Nov 2019. My natural hair has grown to shoulder length and the silkiness is back, but I have a long way to go... Thank you for your courage in sharing your story. I am glad to know I am not the only one...
