odd so i am assuming you dont mean tv/seat/wheel/wheelbase. shifter/peddles those alone are over 200$ easyyyyyyyy just for good quality. So i really wouldnt say built sim for under 200$ when in reality this entire set up is prob 1000$ minimum. even the tv alone you said is 400$. Even the metal alone in some parts of the country due to inflationw ould be close to 200$. However it looks good nice :)

@DOITWITHDAN what do you think of combining wood and metal? Like how you first had the tubing in the wood. You could use the wood to mount something like your pedals, amd then you could adjust them back and forth depending on preference or driver. The wood also keeps it stable below and you could make a locking mechanism so it stays in place. Set that up for the steering and future stick shifter. And one tubing may be enough since you can make the distance it can vary less. Stick shift could be made to only move like 6 inches.

I'm going to start with this, and then try to sick it onto a 3DOF motion platform later once I get my head around all the servo stuff. The DOF Reality rigs are actually cheaper than the DIY parts, but shipping one to me is like $2000! Getting way too deep into sim stuff from a real life motorsports background just equals loads of fun projects! Thanks for sharing your rig build Dan.

This is super cool! The only thing I would've maybe changed would be to try and make it in a way where it could be broken down into smaller pieces that could all be bolted together so it could be moved easier. Like maybe make the TV tree a piece, each of the long front to back pieces separate runners, the steering wheel mount as a separate piece, and then the seat mount plate as a separate piece. I love how solid this would be all welded like this, but I feel like it would be a huge pain to move into a house. Plus it would probably make it a whole lot easier to powder coat the whole thing.

That's not bad to get an initial grove set, but his problem was too much feed, and not enough speed. He's keeping gentle on it, and when the teeth connect, all that torque is going back at him instead of cutting a chip. Needs to get on the trigger a little harder before pushing into the wood.

Other than that the structure looks really stable. Don't forget cable management ! These rigs require a lot of cabling to set it all up.

How hard is it to manage the motion system?
@matt_kelly
@matt_kelly Жыл бұрын
@@DOITWITHDAN From the hardware or software side? It wasn't a commercialized product yet so there was a lot of safety protocols and redundancies. Big stop button on the control console and inside the platform, grip tape where the person stood, big mast on the back of the seat to route the VR cords, things like that. Even with everything in place there were still glitches which could cause the system to freak out. From a maintenance standpoint, because of the design (which I can't discuss) there was relatively little maintenance itself. The system needed seals/filters replaced twice a year, bolts checked each run, bearings on the moving points regularly checked. I can't remember the entire FAT/SAT list but there was quite a bit to it. It was being built for a government client so had to be pretty robust and safe so your mileage would vary obviously. In short, I wouldn't want to be solely responsible for it if someone other than myself was on it. But it was a standing platform so different than a racing sim.

All I can say is I'm a big fan of your humor. I remember the "Do it with Dan" intro clips. Loved it then, love it now.
