My lightweight draw-bridge-style roller boat ramp project from last summer finally comes to light.
The Multinautic 5" 2000 pound wheel kit I used is available at Amazon through this link: goo.gl/E3yqE8
Extra Multinautic 34111 5" 2000 pound wheel kits (one pair of two wheels) are also available on Amazon through this link: goo.gl/d4p29H
The dock hinge is available through this Amazon link. amzn.to/2qhf0R3

Dear Eric I am age 62y now and i couldnt agree more with you that as one gets older you tend to feel like a lone ranger. like you, i love woodwork and diy stuff . i guess thats one sure way to stay active and keep onself busy. thats a very ingenious drawbridge you made...very impressive. Chin

You should see my dock! I need to make a video about it some day, but it uses a a 10,000 pound electric winch on a remote control. This season a 12-year-old girl put my dock in. =)

I wish I saw this before I built my ramp. Going to try to add the last hinged piece like yours. Great idea. For the exact reason you have, no young people to assist when the fun ends.

Pretty nice set up Eric Smart move preparing for the future as you did Luckily the Lake house i use has its own Concrete launch and recovery ramp on the property which is very convenient to just using the trailer for winter storage plus by the ramp there is enough room to park most of the trailers in the summer time ! Yes they sit in the weather but that doesn’t appear to hurt anything with proper maintenance and lubrication One thing a freind of mine does on his lake is he utilizes a 12volt winch mounted to his truck to get his docks and boats out of the water seasonally by himself Its a pretty good setup and he uses a inexpensive winch from Harbor Freight he stores in the garage untill he needs it as it attaches to his trailer hitch receiver temporarily

This is cool. What's funny is about 25 years ago my father inlaw and me build a great dock for his place. Nice welded stands and 12 foot long pressure treated sections. Built to last. Then we both got 25 years older and we can hardly lift one section now. hahaha He has to hire some kids from the high school football team to put it in and take it out. Smart move future proofing your setup. All the best, Jay

That's awesome! I came here looking for a simple pressure treated ramp or pair of 2x6 rails to pull a Sun Dolphin pedal boat up a similar bank at our camp ground. Nothing fancy, and I'd have to be able to remove the ramp from the water at the end of the season. I was thinking of just pulling the boat up the 10' with a rope, but I like your 'thinking about the future' as we aren't getting any younger. Maybe I should look into the wheels and a hand crank recovery system, haha! Thanks for your video!

Great video, would be nice to do a second video of how you built this and where you bought the components and cost to build. I want to build something similar for my kayak. Can you take a close up of the rollers or send me the link to where you purchased these? Thanks Jim NC

The components I used are linked to in the description. Sadly not one of my cameras liked water at the time I made this video and so some stuff was not recorded. Thanks for watching!

Awesome! I've been researching ways to build a ramp to pull my Jon Boat out of the water without a boat lift. It never dawned on me to make it so it could be raised out of the water. Are those wheel kits till on ebay?

I've got the Amazon links the Multinautic hardware in the description. I have since found out through experience that the Multinautic stuff is better built than the eBay stuff. Thanks for watching.

I have been thinking about buying an old boat trailer, removing the axle and wheel and then building a steel frame that sits just outside of the trailer with a single pivot point such that I can tilt the trailer down into the water to retrieve the boat and once fully on the trailer, gravity would rock the boat on the pivot point to near horizontal and well out of the water. Just gotta find the right trailer (cheap). Any thoughts about how to do this?

Make it out of aluminum and use two sets of guide-ons to locate the boat correctly. Unless the whole thing is fully submerged, you will have a problem with the boat rolling back into the water. For this reason you see the winch. These days if I was to do this project again, I'd make everything out of aluminum.

Eric, your ramp is awesome! I’d like to build a ramp for my pontoon. Where did you buy the rollers?
@MinnesotaEric
@MinnesotaEric 3 жыл бұрын
Bruce, I think you’d be better served by an aluminum lift or ramp. The style rollers are designed for V-hulls. If you want a roller ramp for a pontoon, you need to use a different kind of roller and ramp design.

I'm looking to build the same thing. What are you using for a hinge?
@MinnesotaEric
@MinnesotaEric 4 жыл бұрын
Tim, I used a regular dock hinge with a removable pin type like this one at Amazon: amzn.to/2qhf0R3 (buying through the link supports my channel but doesn't cost you anything.

I made it out of wood, but I want to redo it making it out of aluminum.
